Borderline Personality Disorder Toolbox: A Practical Evidence-Based Guide to Regulating Intense Emotions by Jeff Riggenbach is a well-designed, practical workbook for those that suffer from BPD. Written in an accessible, conversational tone, Riggenbach presents the material in an easy-to-digest manner.

The workbook opens with a solid explanation of what BPD is, how it is defined, how to find a qualified therapist, and how to set treatment expectations. These opening sections empower the patient to take control of his or her treatment.

The workbook exercises are clear, concise, simple to follow, and cover a wide range of potential trigger situations. Though designed for the patient’s use, this book is a valuable resource for friends and family who want to better understand the condition so that they can provide needed support. Family can work through many of the worksheets with the patient to provide additional encouragement and reinforce the lessons.

This is a thorough, practical book that provides an introduction to borderline personality disorder, then a lot of exercises and worksheets to help people with BPD work on the issues they're experiencing. The book contains tools related to mindfulness, motivation, crisis management, relationships, medication and hospitalisation, and sections on techniques from dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and schema therapy. The last two chapters are for mental health professionals (primarily myth-busting), and the family and friends of those with BPD (primarily to help understand the disorder, draw boundaries, and be supportive). The tone of the book is friendly and understanding without being condescending or flippant. It would be difficult for someone with BPD to work on problems solely with the info in this book - it likely would work better for those already familiar with the skills and concepts.

A great book that goes along with going through DBT, on helping to understand this condition. I have BPD, along with CPTSD. It really helps.

Good overview. I have a history of depresssion, and I have a family history of depression, but my friend may have BPD, so I'm reading up on that. Pretty useful.
