Полезная для начинающих управленцев. Не подойдёт для предприятий творческой сферы, и то не для всех. Все описано так как и должно быть. Если жалеть работников и стараться им нравиться то они поедут на тебе. А если хочешь получить максимум с наёмного труда, то автор объясняет как.

Если вы когда-либо хотели прочесть что-то типа анти-Друкер, то вот эта книга как раз для этого идеально подходит. Вообще, для меня эта книга примечательна двумя вещами. Во-первых, эту книгу я хотел прочесть в течение где-то 7 лет, но всегда меня отталкивало название, ибо уж очень оно…совковое (как оказалось, на 100% был прав). Во-вторых, книгу на западе мало кто вообще читал. Т.е. она в США (и частично в ЕС) в разы менее заметна, чем в России. (The English review is placed beneath Russian one)

Если вы когда-либо хотели прочесть что-то типа анти-Друкер, то вот эта книга как раз для этого идеально подходит. Вообще, для меня эта книга примечательна двумя вещами. Во-первых, эту книгу я хотел прочесть в течение где-то 7 лет, но всегда меня отталкивало название, ибо уж очень оно…совковое (как оказалось, на 100% был прав). Во-вторых, книгу на западе мало кто вообще читал. Т.е. она в США (и частично в ЕС) в разы менее заметна, чем в России. А вот в России она если не бестселлер, то определённо не залежавшаяся книга, которую никто не покупает. Я даже как-то раз видел, как её читали в кафе. Плюс, книга идёт с рейтингом 4+ на российских сайтах любителей книг. Т.е. что мы видим? Книга, написанная американцем для американцев, стала популярна в России, но не в США. Это определённо знак, и я бы сказал, плохой.
Вот если вам необходима инструкция о том, как сделать, чтобы начальника ненавидели все подчиненные, начиная от уборщицы и заканчивая вице-президентом, то это именно та книга. Автор подходит к сотрудникам с позиции старой, если так можно сказать, школы, когда начальство видело в подчинённых не союзников, ни даже нейтралов, а главнейших врагов, за которыми нужно постоянно присматривать. Согласно книге, подчинённые делают всё возможное, чтобы не работать, сидеть в интернете, общаться в социальных сетях и играть в игры (это известная теория - Теория X и Теория Y - в менеджменте, которая была изобретена 1960 году Дугласом МакГрегором, где как раз говорится, что согласно Теория X «средний человек не любит трудиться и по возможности избегает работы», однако от этой теории давно уже ушли и если она и применяется где-то, то лишь в качестве исключения и только если её проводит очень умелый топ менеджер, ибо в противном случаи получается то, что было в советском союзе). Другими словами, работодатель и работник стоят по разные стороны баррикад и смотрят друг на друга через прицел винтовки.
Как пишет автор, работа, это не то место, где делают работника счастливым или где он становится счастливым или где он может требовать от работодателя быть счастливым (если не это, то тогда что?). Рабочее место, это серьёзно. Тут, так сказать, не время и не место улыбаться. Армейская философия. Или как дальше пишет автор, если сотрудник не приносит прибыли, от него нужно избавляться и в качестве иллюстрации приводятся скаковые лошади (лошади участвующие в скачках). Т.е. здравое зерно тут есть, но если посмотреть в целом, то мы видим, что картина в целом рисует нам работодателя, которого интересуют только деньги и который привык выжимать работников по максимум, чтобы потом через год-два выкинуть выгоревшего сотрудника на помойку, а на его место нанять свежего и молодого. Тут нет никакой социальной ответственности бизнеса, тут нет никакого равенства, уважение. Тут только привычка вытирать ноги о сотрудников, и относиться к ним точно так же как относились к рабочему классу в начале-середине промышленной революции, то о чём писал и что критиковал Диккенс в своих произведениях, и что потом вылилось в Карла Маркса, Капитал и пролетарии всех стран соединяйтесь. Если Европа и США уже давно ушли от такой модели (поэтому книга в США не стала популярной или хотя бы заметной), то в России её приняли на ура. Потому что прошлое. Наше недавнее прошлое учило именно так поступать с сотрудниками. Как пишет автор, кошка (начальник) всегда должна быть на стороже проверяя, что делают мыши (работники). И вот в качестве таких проверок автор рекомендует внезапные приезды (из командировок), чтобы внезапно нагрянуть и застать «мышей» врасплох.
Конечно, автор упоминает и таких знаменитых работодателей как Google,которые действуют строго наоборот. О них он пишет просто, что те и так богатые и поэтому могут позволить себе нанимать на работу 3 человек, которую при обычных условиях может сделать один.
Ну и вишенка на торте, это, разумеется, видеокамеры на рабочем месте. Ну конечно же, раз уж пошла такая пьянка, то как можно было не включить и подобную меру. «Большой брат» следит за тобой.

If you've ever wanted to read something like the anti-Drucker, this book is perfect for that. Actually, for me, this book is notable for two things. Firstly, I wanted to read this book for about seven years, but the title always put me off because it was very...soviet (as it turned out, I was 100% right). Secondly, not many people in the West have read the book at all. That is, it is much less noticeable in the U.S. (and partly in the EU) than in Russia. But in Russia, the book, if not a bestseller, then certainly not a lost book that no one buys. I even once saw it being read in a cafe. Plus, the book is rated 4+ on Russian sites. So what do we see? A book written by an American for Americans became popular in Russia, but not in the United States. It is definitely a sign, and I would say a bad one.
If you need instructions on how to make your boss hated by all subordinates, from the janitor to the vice president, this is the right book. The author approaches employees from the perspective of the old, if I may say so, school when bosses saw subordinates not as allies but as major enemies who must be watched over at all times. According to the book, subordinates do their best not to work, sit on the Internet, chat on social networks, and play games. It is the famous theory - Theory X and Theory Y - in management, which was invented in 1960 by Douglas McGregor. It says that according to Theory X "the average person does not like to work and avoids work as much as possible." However, this theory has long been abandoned, and if it is applied somewhere, then only as an exception and only if it is carried out by a very skilled top manager because otherwise, you get what it was in the Soviet Union. In other words, the employer and the employee stand on opposite sides of the barricades and look at each other through the sights of a rifle.
As the author writes, the workplace is not the place where they make the employee happy or where they become happy or where they can demand from the employer to make them happy (if not that, then what?). It is the workplace, and it is serious. It is no time or place to smile, so to speak. It's Army philosophy. Or, as the author continues, if an employee is not profitable, you should get rid of him. As an illustration, the author gives the example of racehorses, i.e., horses participating in races. There is some common sense, but if we look at the whole picture, we will see that the overall picture is of an employer who is only interested in money, and who is used to extract from employees as much as possible, so that after a year or two to throw out a burnt-out employee in the trash and to replace them with a fresh and young one. There is no social responsibility of business, no equality, no respect. It's just a habit of treating them like garbage, the same way the working class was treated in the early industrial revolution. It is what Dickens wrote about and criticized in his works, and what later resulted in the appearance of Karl Marx, Capital, and the slogan "Workers of the world, unite!" While Europe and the United States have already moved away from this model (which is why the book did not become popular or at least noticeable in the United States), but in Russia, it was welcomed with enthusiasm. Because of the past. Our recent background has taught us exactly how to deal with employees. As the author writes, the cat (boss) should always be on guard, checking what the mice are doing (employees). And so, the author recommends sudden arrivals (from business trips) in order to suddenly burst in and catch the "mice" unawares.
Of course, the author also mentions famous employers such as Google, which act strictly in the opposite direction. About them, he writes that they are already rich, and therefore can afford to hire three people to do the job, which under normal circumstances can be done by one.
And the cherry on the cake, of course, is the video cameras in the workplace. Big Brother is watching you. ...more

Єдиний важливий критерій при виборів працівника, на думку автора, - це його здатність приносити прибуток, який має бути в рази вищим за всі прямі і непрямі витрати, пов'язані з роботою працівника. Якщо працівник перестав приносити достатню користь і прибуток, його потрібно одразу звільняти. Наймані працівники ні Описана система управління аж занадто жорстка (постійне стеження за працівниками, єдиний ПК в офісі із доступом до інтернету чи телефон для скарг на колег), але є і цікаві думки та ідеї.

Єдиний важливий критерій при виборів працівника, на думку автора, - це його здатність приносити прибуток, який має бути в рази вищим за всі прямі і непрямі витрати, пов'язані з роботою працівника. Якщо працівник перестав приносити достатню користь і прибуток, його потрібно одразу звільняти. Наймані працівники ніколи не стануть членами твоєї родини і в них завжди буде маса пріоритетів окрім належного виконання роботи. Про прибуток власника вони думатимуть ледь не в останню чергу. Так змальовує автор взаємовідносини між власниками бізнесу та найманими працівниками і виходячи з таких реалій дає свої поради: ніколи не мати незамінних робітників, довго наймати і швидко звільняти робітників, не мати роздутого штату тощо.

Цікава ідея щодо застосування теорії розбитих вікон до управління персоналом - дрібниць не буває, відусутність посмішки, груба відповідь клієнту, безлад на робочому місці - все це може відштовхнути клієнта і привести до втрати прибутку. Тому потрібно карати навіть за дрібні порушення правил. З іншого боку, для гарних робітників працедавець має створювати ідеальні умови, аби люди понад усе не хотіли втратити таку роботу.

Книга для власників бізнесу та управлінців, але цікаво почитати і з точки зору працівника.

Dan Kennedy's niche is clear-headed business how-to based on his lifetime of experience as an entrepreneur.

In this book he gets to the real reason you have employees, to generate more profits through their work than you could generate without them. Employees are not friends, they are people you pay an investment to with the expectation of getting a greater return. If you don't know your numbers or how the employee contributes to the bottom-line of your business, you need to let them go.

It may be painful (as Neo found out), it may be difficult (as Neo found out) but it's no longer living a lie (which Neo found out), which is the most unhealthy thing for you. When income taxes take 50%, combined with sales tax, car, home, luxery, etc. Most Americans are dishing away 60% of their hard-earned money. Why do it? Why complaing the rich are getting away with paying only 5, 6, 7% in taxes when YOU can do it too. And Dan the Man will tell you how. He is great because he is the no BS man. He's tough. He's straight forward. Hell, somethimes he's downright ornery, but who cares. I need the truth. You need the truth. Первая треть книги вызывает чувство, что автор знает что такое кнут, какие есть виды, подвиды, типы, царства и особенности у кнутов и вообще называет их милыми именами.
Тем не менее, методы и общая мысль полностью совпадает с названием и, если вы предпрениматель, то розовые очки могут треснуть уже на этом этапе.

I have three boxes of management books and 6+ years of trying it all out. While the title of this book may turn a few off, it's the best general book on managing I've ever read; especially for the small business owner that isn't spending government bail-out money.

Too many of the books out there are written by academia that think BIG business OWES employees EVERYTHING. You read too many of those books and pretty soon you are asking permission from your employees for everything, paying for some to ...more

Despite some morally appalling views here and there (employees don’t deserve a minimum wage, they only exist to make you money, Trump is the sort of businessman you should be looking up to, etc) this is an irresistibly good read. Dan Kennedy has a knack for explaining the complexity of running a business (and particularly big business) in ways that most readers should understand. Отличная книга для руководителей, да и сотрудников тоже. Хорошо отрезвляет тех, кто считает, что руководитель должен выполнять функцию родителя, а компания - благотворительного фонда по улучшению жизни сотрудников.
Книга полна практичными примерами и их анализом, а также конкретными результатами. Аналогичные проблемы и ошибки особенно молодых руководителей встречаются на каждом шагу. Поэтому "Жесткий менеджмент" - эта та классика, которую должны прочитать все руководители.

If you have employees or a team you lead and feel as you are sometimes too soft, or making too many compromises, this book will change your approach. In order to make a point, some arguments are a bit exaggerated, but this is disclosed by the author already in the introduction. Cherry-pick what applies to your business, highlight it and revise it occasionally. Another great book by the great Dan Kennedy.

Ідеально підійде для пост-радянського простору. Рекомендую також для підприємців-початківців.

Є багато цікавого, але той самий час є багато шлаку і застарілої інформації.

Все одно, моєна взяти декілька дуже хороших ідей, які вартують потраченого часу.

Quite curious approach to tough management and accountability, which would likely greatly apply to low-skilled or service jobs, but I could hardly imagine that in full being fruitful while applied to knowledge workers. Some non-trivial thoughts here and there make it worth a read though.

Читав в перекладі Фабули (на goodread не знайшло тої книги). Переклад так собі. Сама книга - цікава. Зовсім інший погляд на менджмент. Зараз всі говорять про лідерство і співчуття до підлеглих. Тут йдеться про тотальний контроль, прорахунки і максимальну раціоналістичність. Цікаво!)

He has created winning campaigns for health, diet and beauty products and companies, B2B and industry products including software, and investments including Canadian land sold to Asian investors — but his #1 specialty, where he does most of his work, is with clients in the information-marketing industry including book, home study course, online course and newsletter publishers; seminar, conference and event promoters; coaching organizations; and associations.
