Awful. Superficial, full of pseudoscience wellness tips. Author is a great makeup artist but has no business providing health advise. Her expertise in one area, make-up, does not give her any expertise to advise readers on the rest of the body.
Drinking lemon water, apple cider vinegar, which are both acidic, to alkalinize body?! The alkaline diet sham is featured prominently here. Sadly this book has caused me to lose all respect for author.,
I am happy that I have this book with me which shows the simplest way of taking care of oneself from meditation to yoga to eating well... It is a guide to how you can reduce stress and anxiety... I think it gives also some tips about free exercise so that you do not have to pay for a gym to keep healthy. And, the results are indicated realistically. I was planning to sell the book on vinted but now I decided that I might keep it to remind myself of my well-being. The only thing I am not into is maybe aromatherapy it sounds a bit too much effort for me although it is a matter of preparation (lemon, sage, olive oil, and rose oil are all easily accessible). I would have liked to read a book by her on motherhood, as well. How she balanced work with motherhood, could be very interesting to read. Cause she is a great businesswoman and creator of the brand Bobbie Brown but she also has kids! Curious about her next moves.
Thanks to the publisher, Chronicle Books, via LibraryThing, for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
Bobbi Brown has written a thorough approach to beauty that teaches it starts on the inside of the body. She provides beneficial information on what to eat (superfoods), hydration, supplements, sleep, exercise, confidence, and which foods can zap our beauty. She lists skin care products and routines for using them. The Make-up Application Section is very detailed and I especially enjoyed the Mix-Up Your Look section.
This book is nicely sequenced and loaded with colored pictures. There are beautiful young models and some of the recipes sound healthy and appetizing. I would have liked to see some older models and make-up application for those of us with wrinkles!! This book would make a great gift.
Beautiful! While I read this entire book in just a couple hours, I found myself bookmarking a few pages because I knew I'd want to refer to them again in the near future. For anyone who has really kept up with makeup techniques and skills, this book is not going to be helpful. For younger people, or people who just haven't made time to worry about nutrition and it's effects on appearance and skincare, I'd say it's a great primer. This book is easy to read, has basic information written in a way that is not swallowed up in research and footnotes (which is not to say those books are bad, they aren't!), contains beautiful photographs of beautiful people, and gives you basically bullet-point pages of food to eat and skincare to try.
I received an advanced copy of this book but the opinions are my own.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review via #LibraryThing.
I am a huge advocate for taking care of yourself...i.e. eating healthy, working out, de-stressing, etc. This book managed to nicely cover all of the basics for self-care and boosting self-esteem in a healthy way through healthy eating, exercising, working on ways to reduce stress, low-key beauty tips that are EASY - super important for women on the go!! I love the empowerment this book emphasizes and promotes...I think it's a really great tool for females to help boost their self- confidence and loving the skin they're in.
As a high school librarian, I plan on adding this book to our collection for immediate circulation!
This is a beautiful book, but what else would you expect from a book on beauty. The chapters are divided as follows: Food, strength, zen, confidence, skin, breakthroughs, makeup, and mixing up your look. At first I thought the first chapters were odd for a beauty book, but Bobbi makes a good point that anyone can be beautiful, and that we all need to take care of ourselves. She includes recipes (that admittedly makes me think I should eat more than that), take care of our spirituality, and find calm and happiness. Overall it was interesting. It kept me way more entertained than a makeup and hair book would.
Nice photography and I loved the layout and font used, but no new material presented in here. Skipped the entire section on how to apply makeup because it's been included in every single makeup book ever published. This might be good for someone just getting started and needing a jumping off point on how to eat healthy and what foods are good for your skin, but overall just the same information presented in a new format. I did like that recipes were included in this!
I was really excited to see this book out. With that being said...this was awful, I hate to say that about a book, but in this case it is true. It was like "oh lets just put a book out just because". It was fluff...basic stuff that everyone really already knows. The beauty stuff was stuff that has already been in her previous books, and the recipes...meh. This was a waste of my time.
This book was a quick read, but it left me slightly disappointed. I was hoping for more. It is very basic and I wish it would have given me more recommendations. However, it did give me a list of new people to follow on Instagram that have positive messages about health and beauty so maybe I can learn more in the future.
I love that Bobbi Brown is up to date on caring for oneself on all levels. There are healthy recipes, yoga, information on body types and tips on makeovers. However, it empowers women rather than makes them think they need to look/feel good for someone else. A quick read, great photos of food!
This was a quick reference book with beautiful photography. Most information was just a reminder for me but I like section on different spa treatments. Overall great fast update on make up and healthy life style.
it has some interesting tips, but a bunch just kinda felt like the tips were meant for people who are extremely cautious. it just kind of came across as luxurious and not meant for the casual readers.
Clear, straightforward wellness advice from Bobbi and her team. Where this book really shines is the emphasis on less is more makeup. Skin care, and self care, done consistently, mean you don’t need a lot of makeup.
Bobbi Brown does some of the best books on makeup I've read. That said, this is mostly old material if you've read her earlier books. Still great and better than 99% of what's out there.
Bobbi’s holistic take on beauty—where skincare, nutrition, and mindset work together. It’s about nurturing yourself fully so your outer glow reflects your inner well-being.
While the makeup demonstrated in this book is classic and lasts through the years, the majority of the book is dedicated to internal wellness to promote beauty. A lot of that advice isn't accessible to the majority of people, such as sustainably sourced everything, or recommending obscure super/foods like bison meat.
