This book seeks to create an understanding of how the 20th century in Europe could create the contradictions of civilization and barbarity. The barbarity comes in the forms of three horrible conflicts. The two world wars and the cold wars are assessed very well here along with their contributing factors. European culture represents the civilization and is conducted with various discussions of literature, art and science. This is a great historical compendium which explains in detail the political ramifications in Europe and the causes of the different wars. This is a book that I will be refering to frecuently.
