Seventeen year old Lila DeHaven’s camping trip with her friends and her boyfriend ends with her world turning upside down. She wakes up in the middle of the Deadwood Sea, in a world she never knew existed - a world where deadly mermaids, royal vampires, and powerful witches exist.
It’s a world where no one is safe, especially her. Escaping it is impossible, but staying could be deadly.
Sebastian Stark, vampire prince of his coven, isn’t expecting Lila to show up at his palace. As far as he’s concerned, Lila DeHaven is a myth, a legend. He knows he should kill her, but there’s something different about this girl - something that makes him decide to make her his slave instead.
Caught in a web of royal secrets, vampire politics, romance, and betrayal, Lila and Sebastian find something they’ve never found in anyone before. Lila finds that she wants to be Sebastian’s next drink, and Sebastian soon realizes his heart isn’t as black as he once thought it to be.

What I liked: -World building. I thought the idea behind the setting was pretty cool and dare I say original for the genre. I wish it would have been fleshed out more, but for a first book in a series it was okay. I'm sure the world will be expanded upon as the series continues.
What I disliked: -Errors. This book had a lot more grammatical errors than all previous books by these authors. Lots of missing words that should have been caught in the editing process. -Sebastian and Lila's relationship. It was too confusing, waaaaay too melodramatic, and such a horrible case of insta-love that it might honestly be the worst I've seen in YA paranormal romance. There was absolutely zero development between the two of them. Unbelievable at best, lazy writing at worst. -Writing. Definitely not as good as some of their other books. It felt like some very important scenes could have been longer and more detailed, but instead everything happens bam! bam! bam! and entire chunks of the story pass by in the blink of an eye. Anything remotely resembling action happens in the span of a paragraph, leaving no sense of urgency.
Overall, not my favorite book by these authors. The two main characters are 2-D at best, and the romance was unbelievable from the beginning. I'd recommend the Howl series if you want an amazing story, and the Briar Creek Vampires series if you want an example of extraordinary character development. 2.0
