12.05.2017: Just messaged the author to see if this will be translated into English

18:40- just has msg back: it' is being looked into and will get back to me! HUZZAH

20:20 - Another msg through - they are on the case!

In a nutshell, this is about a president of USA who goes nuts and drives the country down into the ground.

This was a hugely disappointing political thriller. Not the type of book I would normally read, but this is Jussi Adler-Olsen! Of course I must read it. I wish I hadn't.

This is a long and winding story about what is essentially a plot against the United States of America. It explores a grief crazed president's catastrophical leadership. There are some nice characters, such as Doggie. Her father ends up on death row, accused of killing the President's pregnant wife. Doggie doesn't know what to b

The review that I just submitted to the Penguin First To Read website, verbatim:

Dear Penguin Publishing Group,

It's clear that you selected this book for republication in English at a time when its subject matter, an autocratic President, would resonate with the American public. The concept is established well by the author. However, that's the only reason I would give this book any more than 0 stars. The devolution of a national crisis to executive action, with conspiratorial undertones througho

A truly scary read that the author proves to be plausible according to current US legislation. Whether you think that Obama was the worst president in the history of the US or that Trump is the world’s biggest nightmare, this book will help you feel better by showing you that it could be much, much worse. Bruce Jansen, the president in this novel, implements policies that make both sides of the aisle sweat (gun confiscation + massive deportation of illegal immigrants), throwing the country into ...more

Nothing. Nothing in this story was predictable. Often I was on the edge of my seat. It was that feeling of dread that I felt … almost like watching a scary movie. The crescendo of what-happens-next kept increasing with each page. There was no such thing as predictably.

The author creates President Jansen, a man seemingly gone mad, and Vice President Sunderland, also unhinged, mounting volatile chaos in America, along with radical policies that change, displace, and replace those akin to democrac

Wow, you wouldn't think a guy from Denmark would be so knowledgeable about politics in the U.S.A., but he scored right on for me. He put them all in a contest at the beginning of the book and made them into the people who would work well with each other when they need the help. Doggie Curtis was the youngest of the contestants at 14 years of age, Rosalie Lee won the first prize and T. Perkins came in third. They were all to travel to China with Governor Bruce Jansen as guests all paid for by the ...more

Jussi Adler-Olsen, author of The Washington Decree--a stand alone book, has written seven books in the Department Q series 'starring' lead detective Carl Morck (in Danish, that o has a line through it!).  I reviewed one of them last Fall.  They are definitely Danish Noir, gripping and full of social commentary.  Often they are laugh out-loud funny which makes them real page turners in spite of the sometimes shocking murders.  If you haven't read them, I highly encourage you to read them in order ...more

I really tried to read this book. I really did. I was unable to complete more then 39% of the book. I consider myself to be a vote by the person not the party here in the USA. I did not vote for Trump. I was not happy with the idea of Hillary Clinton either to be honest, but I did vote for her because I felt she was the better choice between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

I also feel the need to put in here that I suffer from chronic depression & severe anxiety. These two things combine ma

It can be difficult to read a political thriller and not think about our current times, especially if you live in the states. That such a book should be written about the United States but from an excellent writer from Denmark seems apt at this point in history.

The Washington Decree is based off a series of executive orders that were instituted in the wake of 9/11. This is not fiction. These executive order essentially give the U.S. government the authority to declare marshall law and take over

Van Jussi Adler-Olsen ...more

A potentially compelling (and frightening) story, but the plot was all over the place. So many things didn't make sense and the characters were not well developed. There's a good story in here, but it needed a strong edit.

Great story, and very relevant these days - with Trump and his craziness. I did feel like it was either written in English first and then tried to get translated to Danish. It was trying to hard to do American slang..

It was difficult to choose between 3 and 4 stars.
A thriller and entertaining.
Had difficulties purring it away.

Sometimes a little to quick. And Sometimes the premises seems a little bit to farfetched. But the author gives an explanation in the end.
I liked the book and characters.
