In the book 30 Days to Overcoming Addictive Behavior, author and Pastor Tony Evans, writes about overcoming addictions in our lives. And addiction starts in the mind. Dr. Evans writes, “Satan wants to get ahold of your mind, but he doesn’t plan on stopping there. His desire is to plant thoughts in your mind so they will take root and bear fruit in your actions.” So to change our behavior we must start by changing our thought.
This is a very practical guide with great stories and illustrations. Dr. Evans also opens up about his own personal struggles. I would highly recommend this book to challenge anyone. I received a copy of this e-book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I knew from the moment I read "We often focus on behaviors instead of the root problems that cause the behaviors. But that does little good..." that this book was one I would have to buy for my permanent collection. Everything points to our need for Christ. We cannot rid our lives of addiction without Christ. It's impossible. This book goes into detail for 30 days about how we need to have Christ change our minds, help us see who we really are (our identity), tackle fear, worry, self-esteem, hope, jealousy, contentment and faith. The author uses personal example in addition to loads of scripture and wisdom gained as a pastor for numerous years. This is an awesome book.

Such an encouraging, Scripture filled book that helps you focus on the character of God rather than your own flaws.

21 years in recovery and what that means to me is I have been clean since March 2003 then saved by Gods grace through faith of Jesus 2 weeks later. Loved listening to this book. I wish each chapter on audible I wish was a different day. When your 30 days is up then just start over. I highly recommend it no matter your habit, hurt or hangup.

The best Christian book on addiction that I have read. The author skillfully weaves together scripture, spiritual realities, science, and practical advice.

I am not sure what qualifies preachers to be therapists. But, this book is evidence that they should not pretend to know how to do it. All this book consists of is an aggregation of scripture laced with rhetoric. The author never really addresses the issue of addiction, just waves a magic "Bible wand" over it and declares 'be gone"! Look, I am a believer, but I am growing tired of bowing down to professional preachers with egocentric personalities who write junk books they believe to be profound. This book was dumb, unoriginal, and will do little to assist those truly addicted.

Evans's emphasis on Jesus as the answer to all our needs is a powerful message that resonates throughout the book. By redirecting our focus away from external sources of satisfaction and towards a deeper relationship with Christ, he offers a refreshing perspective on overcoming addictive behaviors. This message serves as a reminder that true fulfillment can only be found in the person of Jesus.
