64 Leadership in a Crazy Worldis a compendium of value-accelerators for business and life. It is gathered as a 64 shot method from the astute observations and remarkable life of creative business leader and iconoclast Kevin Roberts. A provocative figure traversing the peaks of global commerce, media and sport, Kevin Roberts - creator of the groundbreaking idea Lovemarks - is recognized as one of today's most uncompromisingly-positive and inspirational leaders. In64 Shots, Roberts draws on the biggest ideas, toughest experiences and greatest influences of his life to present 16X4 stripped down, straight-forward and instantly-absorbable insights on how to bring order to the chaos of business and life. The punchy insights into winning - hitting readers lightly jab after jab - are an array of one-liners, sound bites, tweets, charts, quotes and historical reference points. They are loaded with Roberts' experience, story, brio, provocation and direction. The language is extreme, brimming with the irrepressible attitude and provocation that fueled Roberts' meteoric career. While there is a sequence, the 64 shots are stand-alone signposts towards living an enterprising and winning life. Anyone can dip into the book anywhere and find value. The writing is accompanied by (not necessarily linked to) a visual order of black-and-white photos of leaders in their cultural fields, some modern, many historical, some famous, and all personal. This eclectic selection of people are both direct and indirect influences to Kevin Roberts' life. They all have an interesting - and some mysterious - connection to concepts of leadership in a crazy world. Examples Mary Quant, Vince Lombardi, Margaret Thatcher, Vivienne Westwood, Twiggy, Tom Peters, Peter Drucker, Martin Luther King, Renzo Rosso, Brigit Bardot, Bob Dylan, Sean Fitzpatrick (a rugby player). The book is high touch and glossy. It feels like Apple, not Shakespeare. 64 Shots - will you take them?
It’s good. I’ve read a lot of leadership and management books, and Kevin’s style and theory is very good. The bookshelves are awash with career memoirs from business winners, and occasionally you get a coherent philosophy that is typically recycled or pastiched from other great thinkers. Roberts is no exception for sponging the wisdom of others, but he’s masterful at personalizing it, amalgamating his own Saatchi success, and constructing a unique lens that is effective, creative, and puts people at the center of a confusingly mechanized business world.
This book was given to me this past week and I'm almost finished it bc of it's interesting format. Basically, Kevin covers a variety of leadership styles, skills and insight in todays modern world and the direction he believes we are headed for...it's not killing it for me but if you like reading about leadership skills and how to progress in this world on some level, you will definitely gain that kind of insight here. I'll update this if I something more speaks to me.
Even though i work now under a different advertising brand, i’m still a Robert’s Mystery, Sensuality, Intimacy, & SISOMO head. I had fun returning to the spirit and bold, punchy style I learned from and guided my way up in life.
Me encantó la simpleza de compartir las experiencias propias y de varios líderes con ejemplos simples para seguir. Así como los 64 shots necesarios para emprender cualquier idea. Recomendado!
Vintage Roberts. Straight to the solar plexus get-it-done inspired action. As the I Ching is the classic of changes, 64 Shots is the classic of execution. To the point text; pick your shot and get on with it is the intention. No fancy theorizing or roundabout the leadership bush meandering. All 64 shots distilled from the Super VUCA’s executive experience making things happen. As bonus a photo portfolio of 64 who have inspired Roberts over his life and career. No captions provided or required. They serve as pictorial reflective ying to the action yang of the concise text. Leadership doesn’t get shared better than this!
