Ann Matthews Martin was born on August 12, 1955. She grew up in Princeton, New Jersey, with her parents and her younger sister, Jane. After graduating from Smith College, Ann became a teacher and then an editor of children's books. She's now a full-time writer.

Ann gets the ideas for her books from many different places. Some are based on personal experiences, while others are based on childhood memories and feelings. Many are written about contemporary problems or events. All of Ann's characters, even the members of the Baby-sitters Club, are made up. But many of her characters are based on real people. Sometimes Ann names her characters after people she knows, and other times she simply chooses names that she likes.

Ann has always enjoyed writing. Even before she was old enough to write, she would dictate stories to her mother to write down for her. Some of her favorite authors at that time were Lewis Carroll, P. L. Travers, Hugh Lofting, Astrid Lindgren, and Roald Dahl. They inspired her to become a writer herself.

Since ending the BSC series in 2000, Ann’s writing has concentrated on single novels, many of which are set in the 1960s.

After living in New York City for many years, Ann moved to the Hudson Valley in upstate New York where she now lives with her dog, Sadie, and her cats, Gussie, Willy and Woody. Her hobbies are reading, sewing, and needlework. Her favorite thing to do is to make clothes for children.

Karen is still the worst but she actually gets some comupance in this book so that was fun. She also wasn't the sole narrator of this book which was excellent. The story follows Karen, Nancy, Hannie, Linny and David Michael as they go to Camp Mohawk for only a week this time not two like Summer Vacation. Claudia and Mallory are also there but apart from a single mention we never hear from them again. Karen is put in a separate cabin from her friends and acts like the bratty know it all we all know and love to hate. Nancy is homesick Hannie acts like Karen and is awful to poor Nancy but given what happens later in the story I forgive her. David Michael is assigned a little brother from the 6 year old cabin and at first thinks he's he's wimp but after ghost story night they become friends. Linny is disappointed they have to sleep in cabins and tries to sleep outside every night only to be called back in by the counselor. He thrives when they go on a campout. Karen and crew head out for their own campout and Hannie scares her with a fake snake and it was the funniest thing ever. Then she got scared over a ghost story and couldn't sleep at night and is it wrong that I enjoyed her suffering? I mean we all know Karen Brewer if she was real would be either a serial killer, or that workplace bully everyone secretly hates and wishes would get fired or quit when she grows up. Out of all the Little Sister Super Specials this one feels most like the BSC ones and was probably my favourite out of them.

It's kind of wild that we're only a third through the Little Sister series, and yet this was the last Super Special. I wonder why that is, there was still seven years where a Little Sister book was published monthly. I'm sure they could have padded out some of the regular stories, added other POVs, sent Karen back to Nebraska, anything.

Anyway, this was a decent read, though a book at Camp Mohawk isn't much without more BSC members - sad for no Kristy (why?) and only a brief mention of Claudia and Mallory. And was this summer ever mentioned in the BSC canon, like how parts of Karen, Hannie, and Nancy takes place during Baby-sitters at Shadow Lake ?

I guess I have so many questions about this book lol.

Ohmygosh! I can't believe I've finally reached the end of this series! I enjoyed Karen's campout from all of the different perspectives. I felt especially sorry for Nancy because that was exactly how I felt during school camps-lost and lonely. I used to hate them so much.
Well, I know that I have whined about Karen's attitude throughout the series but overall I enjoyed reading them. Even if us adults can't stand Karen sometimes, after all she was written for children, and I did love her when I was little so I gave these books some extra stars for that.

Karen acted bored and like a know-it-all to cover up for the fact that she was scared to be at camp without Kristy and her friends this summer. (Kristy's friends Claudia and Mallory were mentioned in passing as being on the camp bus, but did not seem to interact with Karen at all at camp.) I enjoyed when the 7-year-old girl campers went to the county fair.

Karen and Nancy are kind of wimps at camp. Hannie has the time of her life.

I hated these books. God knows why I read so many - completeness? Middle school masochism?
