Cooking for your dog? If you want to pamper your four-legged friend with a bit of variety in the dog bowl, you'll find great recipes for every occasion in this book: crunchy dog cookies, healthy meat meals with fresh vegetables, and dishes to get your dog back on its paws when it's unwell.
Well this book is just bizarre. The author purports to love dogs, and there’s a disclaimer on the copyright page that says that veterinary surgeons were consulted when putting together the recipes in this book. Yet most of these recipes could cause serious harm or even death to your dog! Almost every single recipe contains onions or garlic. On page 51 there is a recipe for a birthday cake which should really be renamed “death-day” cake because the recipe uses 100 grams of raisins which is toxic to dogs. Apparently a new edition was released which omitted all the toxic ingredients from the 1st edition but honestly they should have just pulled the plug on this book.
ZERO stars. THESE RECIPES WILL MAKE YOUR DOG SICK OR EVEN DIE! Please do not feed these to your pet, do not donate this book, please throw it away. My 9 year old was gifted this book, a huge dog-lover, thankfully very educated about animal safety. She was very disturbed (to tears!) to read large amounts of raisins, onions and mushrooms in multiple recipes throughout this book. She is worried anyone would feed their dogs these foods after reading this, not knowing they are hurting their beloved pets.
DO NOT BUY THIS! If you're unknowledgable about qhats safe for dogs, this cookbook will KILL your pet. It says on the very first page that a list of certain ingredients are "indisputably harmful" and then just about every single recipe includes ingredients from that "indisputably harmful" list. Who in their right mind decided it was alright to publish this??
Picked this book up at a charity shop for 99p and what an investment. If like me you find yourself foolishly paying over the odds for natural, healthy dog treats without additives, sugar, salt etc. this book will show you how to make your own for pennies. So far made the honey biscuits and the banana chips - next up the beef n veg parcel thingies - they have gone down very well with my two labradors (though to be fair that's no glowing recommedation as they will eat anything.) I worked out you can make 6 or 7 packs of Honey Oat biscuits per recipe for around 40p all in, not including packaging, distribution or advertising costs, and the retail value would be in excess of £24.00! Brilliant for a charity fundraiser? or a little commercial enterprise?. The book doesn't just focus on treats but also covers gourmet meals - easy to make, containing meat, fish. veg, pasta, rice etc. You can easily customise the recipes to suit your dog's tastes/needs. All natural, healthy, human grade ingredients and they look delicious. I admit I tried a banana chip and they weren't bad...
No, I haven't lost the plot! This book was a gift from my niece and was a useful resource when our old dog was ailing. Now that we have two puppies it is proving its worth again. I have become adept at the honey biscuits much to the consternation of my friends and relatives.
I honestly don't know what came over me to buy this book, I think I've finally lost the plot!!! (help). My dear goodreads friends - please don't desert me, I'm sure I'll get better soon.
