Is it a break? Or is it a blip? 'You've just had a holiday,' I pointed out, trying not to yawn. 'Wasn't that enough of a break?' 'I don't mean that kind of break.' There's nothing worse than the last day of holiday. Oh wait, there is. When what should have been a proposal turns into a break, Liv and Adam find themselves on opposite sides of the life they had mapped out. Fr ...more

I won a copy of this book in a Goodreads Giveaway and received it today (21/11/2016). This has in no way impacted the impartiality of my review of the book as I actually bought, read and reviewed the book before I was declared a Goodreads Giveaway Winner! However I would very much like to thank both Goodreads and Harper Fiction for this lovely shiny new paperback.

Kinsella is hands down my favorite chick-lit writer but Lindsey Kelk arrives at a dangerously close second. I was overjoyed to see she had a fresh standalone available that detoured away from her two existing series. We Were On a Break was a little bit annoying but mostly very funny. Let me break it down by the goods and the bads annoyings based on my opinion.

Goods:
-Alternating POV's of the female lead Olivia and male lead Adam. I've not yet read a Kelk book that offered a male perspective.
-I a

Not gonna lie - I was really disappointed with this one.
Not only the story was far from intresting, but the author went with humour that wasn't funny at all at times, and was even unnecessary and uncomfortable (I mean, who'd ask a father of a child you're at christening party for, in the middle of an argument, if he has penis issues? That was not funny. It was stupid. It made Liv look even more stupid.)

My main problem was that two different POVs sounded EXACTLY the same, and since there was no e

The minute I read this title, I knew I had to read it! Admit it, you thought of Friends too when you saw it!

Liv and Adam have been dating for a few years now, and she’s watched her best friend marry Adam’s brother and have a baby, and logically she assumes that her proposal is coming. When her best friend tells her that Adam has confided in his brother that he’s going to ask her on their vacation, well, Liv can’t seem to think of anything else.

Then the last day of their vacation arrives and wh

We Were On a Break was one of those books I picked because of the title name. I definitely felt like it was an anthem for most relationships that go on and off breaks. Not necessarily my own relationships but then again I could totally get behind it? I don't know.. it probably doesn't make sense.

This book follows Liv and Adam. They've been dating for a few years and obviously a proposal is supposed to ya know.. happen. Apparently Liv get's wind that a proposal will happen while she's on vacation

Lindsey Kelk is an amazing author and I highly anticipate her releases. So when I saw she was releasing a new book (this one) I knew I had to read it! All of my TBR pile was actually put on hold so I could dive into this one and I was not disappointed in the slightest! While I did find it to be a little more slow than her previous release (Always the Bridesmaid) I still enjoyed this one immensely. The characters - Liv and Adam - were a riot (and s

What do you do when your boyfriend who had planned on putting a ring on it suddenly says he wants "a break?" What does that mean? That's what happens to Liv. Lindsey Kelk's warm romantic comedy is the story of two people trying to figure out what they want—both romantically and in their own lives.

Liv and Adam's Mexican vacation doesn't go as either of them had planned. Adam was supposed to propose to her. Liv was expecting a proposal, as she had been tipped off by her best friend, Cass, who is

We Were On a Break is my first book by author Lindsey Kelk. I would consider this book Chick Lit or contemporary romance/humor.

The book has two narrators: Liv and Adam.

The first thing I noticed is that this book is very British. The book takes place in a little English village. She is a vet. He does carpentry. I was very glad that my kindle had a dictionary because there were many British words/phrases that I was unfamiliar with before reading this book.

There were a few expressions/p

This novel has an After I Do vibe with British humor and not as mature main characters. The beginning is funny and it has a good ending but is slow in places in between. I like how it alternates chapters from the point of view of Adam and Liv. In these chapters, we get to see their thoughts, feelings, and how they carry on after the break. Despite it's few flaws I really enjoyed it. 3.5 stars!

Aw man, this one took forever because the past 1.5 weeks have been crazy. I can honestly say that the book itself wasn't to blame for how long it took me. It's an easy, fast paced book. Funny, light, a bit romantic and something I normally wouldn't read but that I quite enjoyed in between all those deep, psychological books I mostly read. I wouldn't mind seeing this in movie form and I felt it was very realistic and relatable with everything that was going on between the two main characters. Whe ...more

Lindsey Kelk is a fantastic writer and has twelve books to her name, of which I’ve read 90% of them and I can safely say she’s always an author who can make you chuckle, and her pop culture references are on par with Lorelai Gilmore’s (and that’s saying something). She’s stepped away from her “Girl” series for now (or forever? *SOBS*) and has brought us another fantastic stand-alone, which must have taken all of it’s inspiration from Friends, because what else can anyone possibly think, with the ...more

'We Were On a Break' is about Liv and Adam, who are on their last day of holiday in Mexico. Adam actually wants to propose to Liv, but nothing really works out the way he wants it. From then on, things go all wrong and what should've been a day to celebrate turns into a break in their relationship...

I loved this book. It might even be the best Lindsey Kelk one I read so far. The characters were really great (except Adam at times), the plot was great, even their jobs were great (Liv is a vet!). W

In general, this is a very nice book. It's witty and generally pretty well written.

However, the basic concept turned out to be not that satisfying. The story is told from two points of view, Liv and Adam's. As I said, it's well written, so you really engage in their lives, in how they both totally love the respective other one etc. At the same time you dread encounters between the two of them, because you realise that there's still more than half of the book left. That means, they are just goin

Boy and girl in love, getting on really well, go on holiday together, she is expecting a marriage proposal, he is expecting to propose, then things go horribly wrong.
A bit predictable, then again not.

I used to enjoy Lindsay's writing, especially the I Heart series, but I just couldn't carry on with this one. I started reading it in May, and I never felt excited to pick it up. I tried to continue with it recently but just got the feeling that I was wasting my time.

I want to start by saying that I think part of the reason for my decision to DNF this book is purely down to my taste in genre changing in the past year. I was very

I loved this book. The humor in particular was spot-on the entire time.
As the title suggests, the story is about a couple having a bit of a rocky road... and throughout the story we get to see how they cope. I particularly liked the different POV, we have both the female side and male side, which I love in fiction.

Overall, We Were On a Break is a lighthearted, hilarious, romantic comedy that will cheer you up and will have you turn the last page with a smile on your face.

I have mixed feelings about his book. As I told in one of my updates, I adored half the characters and absolutely loathed the other half. I loved both Adam and Liv, but they also frustrated me to the point of tears. I loved the story, but I also found it completely bonkers. As I said, mixed feelings.

As the blurb explains, the story starts with a romantic proposal going (very) wrong. Then, as a good chick lit, there are a lot of misunderstandings, some hilarious situations,

Although I read maybe 70% crime, the remaining 30% is spent reading books like these. I am a bit of a Lindsey Kelk fan and loved the Angela Clarke series of books. However, this latest release I knew nothing about other that the fact I loved the author. When I started reading I realised that Lindsey Kelk has not lost her touch and as I read I recalled that one of her skills was telling the 'real' version of event. Especially dialogue between characters and this book is no different.

Back in the day, I was a chicklit girl through and through. Lindsey Kelk, Sophie Kinsella, they were my comfort food. I picked up We Were On a Break, and immediately I remembered why I loved Lindey's writing style. The witty, comical bickering between Adam and Liv had me right from the start, but then something went very, very wrong.

In the beginning, their arguments felt very Ross and Rachel, and had me in stitches. But then they turned bland, treading water and the book lost its funny side. I l

We were on a break is a book about the funny side of a break up, between a couple that instead of getting married decided to take a break. I thought there was something missing, the story was original but not real, the back and forth between the characters were confusing, not very well developed. These people drink a lot!! How could you want to go out with your friends right after you arrive from a holiday vacation that went wrong? Too immature for me, I think I read too many books and I can’t j ...more

I might be a bit biased as she is one of my favorite authors and ive loved her from her debut. The I heart series is my all time ever favorite books (sorry i had to get that in) Ok sorry i digress!

This is a fun, light-hearted read that follows Liv and Adam. Adam was going to propose to Liv but then they end up taking a break.

I liked the idea for this book and I obviously enjoy the reference to Friends in the title. I found moments in this book amusing but I couldn't wrap my head around why Adam didn't propose to Liv. I feel that if Adam and Liv had just talked to one another instead of being really immature they could have solved their problems a lot quic

When things don't go as planned - their relationship takes a unexpected twist. They both approach things in the wrong way and you are left shouting at them through the pages to sort themselves out!

“ahead, burning with embarrassment, confusion and most of all, the unshakeable feeling that I had done something wrong only I didn’t know what. And if he hadn’t apologized by the time we landed, I could always push him down the escalators at Heathrow and say it was an accident. We spent the rest of the flight in silence, listening to Maura’s choked sobs every time the plane shook, followed by another wordless hour in customs and nearly two more driving home.
