I have to admit that the cover was the first thing that caught my eye. It's such a striking cover and together with the interesting description of the book did I feel that this is a book I just had to read.

One would think that LAPD would have much more important things to do after the earthquake than trying to find LAPD Detective Gavin Shaw. But, there is a pretty good reason for why he is needed to be found, but that is not revealed to the cops that are searching for him. However, finding the m

After a monster earthquake levels most of Los Angeles, six law enforcement officers are sent out on a rescue mission. The man they have been charged to find is LAPD Detective Gavin Shaw. They are given no reason, just go find and bring him back.

The men and woman have to navigate streets that no long exist, buildings that are blocking the roads, and even worse, through the most vicious gangs known to LA who are looting, rioting, and basically running rampant.

The more they come under siege, the mo

Let me wander from my usual reviewing format for this book… well, because that title! And that cover! I am not much for the book covers yet the title and this cover made me look twice. The title of the book made me curious and the cover reminded me of Jack Reacher. So I delved in the book with hopes of discovering a strong hero in a complex plot.

As the book blurb describes, after an earthquake that wiped out much of the Los Angeles region, Kevin Schmidt of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department

I love the cover for Bullet in the Blue Sky and when I read about an 8.8 earthquake hitting Los Angeles and chaos reigns, I had to have it.

Terrorism, dystopia and a mystery wrapped in a conspiracy had me traveling with Schmitty and his gang searching for one man…Shaw. Why? What is so important that they will dodge gangs and thugs as they traverse an alien landscape on their mission.

There is danger at every turn, roads blocked, bridges down, fallen buildings and fires. How many will survive?

Bill Larkin’s "Bullet In The Blue Sky" is set in Los Angeles in the aftermath of a massive earthquake. Covering only a period of three days, which adds to its sense of urgency, the story follows the search by an elite team, eventually made up of LAPD, Orange County Sheriff’s Department, FBI and US Army personnel through the ravaged streets of Los Angeles and beyond, in the search for one of their own: a LAPD detective, Gavin Shaw. Only thing is, no-one knows why. Despite battling their way throu ...more

Timely and Great book. Bullet in the Blue Sky is the first book by Bill Larkin that I have read, so I wasn't sure what to expect. What I found was two genres in one book. The first half is basically police procedural while the second half is a suspense thriller. If you are bored by the first part, stick with it as the second half is worth it. This is a standalone with no cliffhanger. There is violence. It's scary to think that this story could actually happen.

The book blurb adequately describes

Wow! This book starts out exciting! It was very interesting, non-stop action.. I am really interested in tornadoes, hurricanes and earthquakes etc. So this book was right up my alley! I love reading books and watching movies about natural disasters, but... Was this natural?

This sure would make a great movie! The mix of disaster, government, and terrorism - just what people love to watch! LOL This author is not afraid of doing radical stuff like killing people off! I like that! I didn'

I’m a big believer in judging a book by its cover and that is exactly what I did here. The main reason I picked Bullet in the Blue Sky up is because the cover is absolutely amazing and I’m glad that I did because this kind of book is probably something I would have passed up. It took me a while to warm up to it but once the story got going, it became a pretty good read.

Bullet in the Blue Sky is Bill Larkin’s second full-length novel featuring

Terrorism is a very big issue currently along with global warming and other environmental problems, this novel expertly ties it all together in a fast paced thriller with all the usual elements of corruption, greed, revenge and so on. A massive earthquake hits Los Angeles and small team of police detectives are tasked to find another detective Gavin Shaw. This seems straight forward however the team have to ignore their instincts and not stop on the way to help others caught in the devastation. ...more

I received this ARC free from Book Review22 for a honest review.
The story begins with Kevin Schmidt, a undercover working Dodger Stadium when a high magnitude earth quake hits.
The big attraction at first was the great book cover, and description. It is a edge of your seat crime thriller, that pulls you in until the very last page. Very much worth the read !

I received a complimentary copy of Bullet in the Blue Sky for review from Book Reviewer 22, and had only the scantiest idea of the content before I started reading. Immediately I was gripped by the close urgency of the writing, the shock of the complete and unexpected devastation of involvement in a severe earthquake and the horror felt observing the resultant death and destruction. Written mostly from the point of view of Schmittie, a detective with the LAPD,

This was a really good read! Unlike any I've read before. An elite team of detectives are sent on a search and recover mission after a massive earthquake strikes California. One of their own, Gavin Shaw, is missing. Kevin Schmidt, an Orange County Sheriff's Department is part of the team. He's confused by their orders. They are not to engage in any law enforcement actions, no arrests, no helping any of the victims, nothing. Just find Gavin Shaw and bring him in. On their way to his house they en ...more

This novel got off to a bit of a slow start but the second half of the novel makes up for it. Schmitty and the team encounter many obstacles in their search for Shaw. It seemed a bit repetitive to me. The action and plot intensity really ramps up about half way through the book. We find out what it is that Shaw knows and why it is so imperative he be found and brought back to head quarters.

We know there is going to be a big earthquake in Southern California some day and this novel gives a good p

Have you ever heard of induced seismicity? I had not either. But if you read this exciting novel you will learn about it. The premise is that it is used to create an earthquake on the Newport Fault and prepare another to be induced on the larger San Andreas Fault. In the first instance the Narrator, Schmitty, is involved as a Sheriff's Officer for Orange County S.O. chasing down a terrorist suspect. A major earthquake occurs in the midst of this investigation. He ends up being sent on an "errand ...more

I enjoy Bill Larkin’s work - his novel, DETECTIVE LESSONS, his short story, HIGHLANDS, his novella, SHADOW TRUTH, and his blog, so I was looking forward to the release of his new book BULLET IN THE BLUE SKY.
I was not disappointed. BULLET IN THE BLUE SKY was worth waiting for. It is a crime story, a thriller, a tale of terrorism, intrigue, suspense, action and violence. There are ethical and moral dilemmas and very interesting overlapping story lines.

Bullet in the Blue Sky by Bill Larkin is a heart-pounding crime story. There's always some danger, where crime exists. However, in this exciting read, Bill Larkin brings readers a dark secret that might just be the most deadly moment of six cops' lives. They are sent in by a deputy chief to go after a missing detective. What they find will...will much more than what they were led to believe. What possible use could one man be during such a huge fluster-cluck of damage and disarray? And why does it seem there are oth ...more

Bullet in the Blue Sky is a well written and professionally edited suspense/thriller.

This is a fast paced plot with something for everyone: natural disasters, foreign spies, police officers, military escapades and a bit of romance. You move quickly from one adventure to the next with an occasional chapter containing a flashback to explain the characters' motivations.

There are several POVs, but the main narrator is an average police detective from a special task force. I did miss feeling a connec

A major earthquake has hit Southern California. An elite team has been sent to bring in Gavin Shaw. They are ordered that is the one and only mission and not to deviate for any reason. Who is this man that he would be given priority over a major earthquake? What makes him so important? This is an awesome story. It start off with an earthquake and just keeps going from there. Truly an outstanding book on many levels. The action continues with danger always present as the story progresses from a search mission through the Hellish aftermath of a major earthquake, to the joining of forces between Federal and local organizations, to finding the bad guys, to locating the highly-placed mole and facing another major earthquake. The characters are very realistic and the relations between them are well played. The emotion is palpable as some of the major players are hurt or k ...more

The cover reminded me of the Fallout 4 video game.

This is a well done thriller with a good mix of ingredients like an earthquake, police procedural, foreign spies, hidden military actions, rescue, survival, and emotional moments.
No, there are no zombies.

I felt well entertained by this after a slow start fast moving story interspersed with flash backs.
Be aware of the fact that there is violence and not every character you meet in the beginning will survive.
