"Harvey Turner is one of the better evangelists I have had the privilege of knowing. He personifies what he writes here. This isn't a book written by a man unwilling to wade into the lost world, but by a man who opens his home, uses his time and lives intentionally in the hopes that men and women will become sons and daughters of God." Matt Chandler Lead Pastor of The Village Church President of Acts 29 Church Planting Network Jesus was a friend of Sinners. Are you? Most Christians understand that telling others about Jesus is important and want to reach people who don't know God. But most believers don't actually share the gospel, because they don't know how. In "Friend of Sinners," Pastor Harvey Turner unpacks the Why, What, and How of evangelism. The book begins with a close look at Christ's conversations with people, and Harvey then uses Christ's example as the foundation for the rest of the book. This practical, biblical approach to evangelism helps believers break down the barriers preventing them from telling people about Jesus so that they feel empowered to share the gospel.
This was a very inspiring read. Turner takes the reader from timid evangelist to full-on empowered soul winner. Harvey uses several Scriptural examples for evangelism and peppers in his own personal experiences. He concludes the book with a great commonly asked questions segment that is both, pragmatic, and theological sound. Five stars! Well done!
Honestly I have owned this book for 3 years and was afraid to open it. I was one of those people that even as a Christian thought “people know I love Jesus and will see my beliefs by my actions”. That is not true. I am not the gospel. In fact, my actions most times might be a hindrance because my best efforts regularly fail to show my love of people. I can’t expect others to be saved by my friendliness. It’s laughable.
Turner rightly says about proclaiming the gospel “it’s always necessary to use words, because the gospel is news about Jesus” and “good works have their proper place when they adorn the gospel.”
Thankfully, Harvey Turner wrote this book and God changed my heart so I was ready to read it. It is written in plain language supported by biblical truth and personal experience. It is practical. Most important it is real.
Read this book, read God’s word. And proclaim with words the gospel as you live your ordinary life being a friend of sinners.
Such a good and concise read. Every point made in the book gets at the heart of why we are all called to evangelism. It never rambles longer than it should, highly recommend.
