I recently met Bill Ayers, the author, at a conference and picked up this book, which is one of the best books on teaching I have read in a while for the simple reason that he puts the student (rather than the curriculum, the methods, the teacher, the test, or the school) at the center of the teaching-learning process. Ayers is a radical teacher who gets the idea that all students can learn, our job as educators is to find the key that unlocks their potential.

Another in a long line of social justice wants cleverly folded into a teacher's bookshelf. Be aware of what you're reading, remember Ayers from way back...is that really who you want to learn from?
