About the author

After studying Fine Art, Printmaking at Glasgow School of Art and Royal College of Art, Jill Dow became an illustrator specialising in natural history subjects. She illustrated four ecology books written for children by David Bellamy, and then became an author herself. She wrote and illustrated eight Windy Edge Farm stories, and also illustrated Songbird Story, written by Michael Rosen.

3.5 stars. A nice story about a cat who loves spending her days out and about. When supper time comes we follow her journey home, through yards, past pigs, through a donkey's field over dry stone walls and back to the cosy farm kitchen. The only worry is that by the time Molly gets there all the other cats will have eaten her food. Luckily the kind human she lives with has saved her some.

Lovely story with nice illustrations, great for children that want a bit more text to their story 9r those looking for a beginner reader with nice illustrations.

Only because the illustrations are lovely.

Cat rushes home for supper. That's it.

Surprising: 2*
Only the last 2 pages had any sort of surprise- judged by the children, not by me.

Language: 4*
Quite a few interesting verbs, but because of "shouted loudly"it lost a star.

Ending: 5*
Satisfactory.

Funny: 0*
Bonus points - none. But I don't penalize a book if it's not funny. They don't have to be funny to be good.

Overall: 3*
We liked it. Next week we will not remember it.
