Life Is a Joke: 100 Life Lessons

Rate this book
It's the perfect marriage of wisdom and wit--here are 100 valuable lessons on how to live, drawn from 100 hilarious and unforgettable jokes.

A really good joke, like a great poem, memorable song lyric, razor-sharp anecdote, or Zen koan, is a portal of discovery--it can get a meaningful message across in a way that's clear, humorous, and practical.
It's the secret weapon of every great comedian--there's the joke, and then there's the subtext of the joke, and that can mean serious business.

A funny, funny joke about a therapist and his patient conveys, for example, an important lesson on the power of communication. A surprising joke about a tribal shaman and the weather service turns into a necessary critique on how we should view experts.

It's like reading a stack of self-development books in a fun & concise way. Really love the content & the concept of this book. Surely gonna read if there's more books like this!

An interesting and entertaining self-help book.

I love that this book has been written with humour. There are plenty of jokes and wit, yet at the same time it has some good points to make. I picked up a thing or two that I hadn't previously thought of in the way this book suggests (and quite honestly I've read a LOT of self-help type books out of curiosity if nothing else!)

I do think it's worth a read and definitely one I shall be picking up again in the future.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It's like reading several self-help books but in a light way.. Unlike 'a real self-help' book, it won't discuss one certain topic in depth but rather become a simple life reminder everytime you read each chapter. Honestly I came for the punch lines, some are funny and some are just okay.

Truly enjoyable real life situations seen for their reality with a keen eye for the humor one can find if simply looking at it with a slightly different angle and not taking self always completely so serious.

2.5✨

Gostei.

Going for 100 was a little ridiculous. And repetitive. It was basically, 100 is a round number! Let’s do it! Who cares if it makes sense!?!
Had they done 30 or 40 max, that would have been a-okay.

Complaint out of the way…it is a fun little book. The jokes are mostly funny, some are duds because they were trying too hard. The life lesson portion is fine, nothing I found earth shattering.
It’s basically a nice coffee table book, or “public shelf” book.

One of my best buy in 2018. Light and easy to read with deep messages in every story. Or sometimes it's just a joke.

Explains a lot of aspects and common life problems in a refreshing way. The jokes inside is cliche but their way to explore the story in another level. Super love it.

I read this as an online book club with a sister and a sister-in-law. We all learned a lot about ourselves and each other through discussing each chapter of this book.

This book is quite simply, absolutely brilliant. Presented in a humorous way but with underlying notes of seriousness, the book consists of 100 'life lessons' which not only amuse and intrigue, but offer helpful insights of self-help to take forward. Each of the 'lessons' is presented first with a quote (all of which are hugely useful and thought-provoking in themselves), followed by a short story, most told with a pinch of humour. There's a moral to each of these stories, and following each story is the 'life lesson' where it breaks down what the moral is and how it applies to the story. The final section is 'beyond the punch line', where things get a little more serious and practical, with some great pointers for applying these lessons to your life, stripping away the humour and being more pragmatic. There were so many of these stories that I read and really related to, and thought 'hell yeah! I need to take this on board'. It took me quite some time to read as a whole book, as I enjoyed reading a few stories slowly at a time, allowing myself time to digest them. On the whole, I would highly recommend this book.

I really enjoyed this book. The format makes the book seem light hearted, while at the same time, teaching the reader a lesson that they may be able to use in the future. This is a joke book that delves deeper. Each joke is related to real life situations. If this book had contained only the lessons and not the jokes, I'm not sure I would have finished it. The jokes made everything more relatable and understandable.

I would recommend this book for anyone that wants a little more guidance in their life, which is probably everyone.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley for an honest review.
