In the not-so distant future, abortion is a crime punishable by death. This is the fascinating premise of best-selling novelist Howard Fast's powerful and provocative new novel, The Trial of Abigail Goodman, which depicts the harrowing legal battle one woman must wage when she exercises her right to choose. When Abigail Goodman, a forty-one-year-old wife, mother, and profe ...more

I happened to see this at...the Dollar Tree. it was the one and only. I chose it because of the subject matter. I have been interested in the subject of choice ever since I was around 10? and raised Catholic. Recalling my thinking it seemed weird for so many people to have so many
kids so fast. Like stairsteps. I had one sister. Later as I learned about the Catholic viewpoint of children and procreation, I became very interested in the choice women had to make. I also felt, being aware of how abo

I found this novel to be terrifying, and almost prescient, in light of current news in the United States (I write this review in July 2013).

Abigail Goodman makes a private medical decision, and is on trial for her life because of it. In this novel, abortion is a crime, punishable by death, and she has had one. Overall good book. I have never read this author before and really enjoyed seeing both sides of a topic that I only see one way. I think every woman should have a choice, and it should be up to her what she decides to do and not the community that she lives in. I wonder, if this would have been set in a different location, if the community would have felt the same way. Is it all small towns that have the same beliefs, or is it simply the south.

Can't wait to find another book by him and see what

Older book (1994) and he is writing about a future time when women could be put to death for having an abortion. Lot of women's lib stuff. Quick read and I think this may have been the last book he wrote. Read a lot of his books year's ago.
