In this world, there are creatures lurking in the shadows. As a child, I once played with them. As a teenager, I began to fear them and became victim to their attacks. As an adult, I now realize that no matter how much I try to escape the grasp of this world, I was inevitably born into it.

Now reborn as a Guardian in the year of 2986, Vivian Lair must uphold the treaty bet

I will start by saying that the premises were very interesting. Vivian, the protagonist, has been unwillingly turned by a demon Underworld Lord into a Guardian. She is “contracted” to seven demons who lend her special abilities that enable her to uphold a treaty between angels and demons in a human city. However, in her dreams, Vivian is constantly haunted by demons, and she must report these dreams in the infamous Shadow M
Vivian died that night, but she was reborn, possessed by demons that gave her incredible powers and prized by her master, the Underworld Lord, Haymen. Now she is his puppet, a Guardian tasked with upholding the treaty between demons and angels in the human city of Shabeah, a cesspool of trouble. With seven demons “contracted” to her, she is almost invincible, yet still, in her dreams, she is helpless and hunted by demonkind. What do those dreams mean? What makes Vivian special to Haymen? What do ...more

I had to give up on this book after a few chapters. It contained way too many typos, clunky dialogue, incorrect grammar, and incorrect word usage (descent used instead of decent, Champaign instead of Champagne, etc).

First that drew me in = cover
Second thing that drew me in = blurb

And let me make this clear, this isn't a YA book!

And then by 12% I was a bit confused. I had to go back and flip through the chapters as I was sure if read a bit the same before. It was like groundhog day.......and Haymen initially reminded me of a dirty old perv version of Charlie off of Charlie's Angels!

But never a quitter, I read on. And I am so glad I did! 40% and I was very interested and totally hooked!

I received an ARC from NetGalley with the promise of a truthful review.

In a world of rebirth, a fragile peace between Angels and Demons, and complex politics between supernatural races, THE SHADOW MINDS JOURNAL takes urban fantasy to a new level. Set in the year 2986, this futuristic paranormal novel is tension packed, with a side of strong sensuality. Fans of the paranormal fantasy about Angels and Demons won't be disappointed!

Full of twists and subplots, the plotline seemed scattered yet fast

I was attracted to this novel because of the cover. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a newly published book that looked like, or is similar to the cover for The Shadow

Let me tell you that I'm not ok! I kindly got this ebook from Crystal Publishing via NetGalley. Thank you so much!!!

First I would like to say that I was so involved in the story, that when I was reading the last sentences I wasn't aware that they were the last sentences. It was insane. I want the second book right now!

It was so well written, and the characters were so deep that I could picture everything in my head. And t

Found this an odd written book. I liked the story but the wording sometimes was like it was translated from another language.

This book had a unique and interesting plot line. Vivian, our protagonist, is a strong although crude main character. She has a mysterious back story and links to the underworld that make her a person of interest to many powerful players.
Haymen, a Demon Lord who essentially has enslaved Vivian is powerful, cruel, and abusive. Honestly I found him to be the major antagonist t

It is 2986 and the world is now inhabited by an uneasy alliance of witches, demons, angels and the poor, unimportant and weak humans. The city of Shabeah is ruled, with an iron fist and ruthless violence by the Lord Demon himself, Lord Haymen. Until her death, Vivian Lair was a simple, fun-loving human who was deeply in love with her partner, but now she has been reborn, she is contracted to no less than seven demons who reside inside her and she

We all face our own personal demons every day. We fight addictions, bad relationship choices, childhood abuse, et cetera. In the distant future, Vivian Lair deals with demons that are far less figurative while under contract to seven demons and being dogged by others in her sleep, even from childhood. When an angelic lover of hers is found murdered, Vivian goes on trial, not realizing that her life will change even more than it already has being reborn into the service of demon lord, Haymen.

The Shadow Minds Journal by Kia Carrington-Russell is the paranormal story of a reborn teenager named Vivian Lair, possessed by demons that provide her with unassailable powers. This comes at an incredibly steep price as she is controlled by the dark lord demon, Haymen. Back in the human world she has been encumbered with the job of balancing a fragile peace between angels and demons. Vivian's powers are lost when she is asleep and she becomes the one under pursuit by dogged hunters, alongside h ...more

I received an ARC from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book was very different from anything else that I've ever read. It's a somewhat complicated story of the war going on between angels and demons after they've revealed their existence to humans in the very far future. The world is a very different place; cities are ruled by either angels or demon lords and humans seem to be their pawns. Perhaps the most infamous demon lord, Haymen, creates Guardians out of hu

The days were fine, with seven demons contracted to her Vivian had their forms and their knowledge at her disposal. She could hold her own against most, except perhaps a choice few. Lord Haymen was one of those she wouldn't cross, besides, she was his to command thanks to her somewhat unwilling rebirth into the world of demons, angels and demon hunters. It was the nights she had to fear. In the night there were dreams, and through the dreams, demons came for her, but in the world of slumber she ...more

4.5/5 stars. This book was is exactly what I needed to help get out of my reading slump! The supernatural aspects of the book were amazing. Kia did an amazing job of balancing the complexities of politics between races and also including a lot of pent up sexual tension and angst which just added to the story. Oh and the fact that you aren't told everything and you are left to put things together to try and figure out how things relate and the why of things. The main characters journey is so inte ...more

At first, I was confused and found the story a little bit slow to build. Once I learned more about Vivian, Haymen, Gabe, and the shadow demons, I became engrossed in the plot and characters. Vivian is one of Haymen's girls who hunts and destroys demons. Haymen is the King/ruler of the demons. Gabe is the Angel of War. When an angel is murdered in cold blood, the killer made it look like Vivian killed him. As Vivian works to uncover who had set her up and why, Haymen and Gabe also race to keep th ...more

There is no rest for Vivian, as we readers swiftly learn.
Carrington-Russell keeps us teetering on edge as Haymen, the sordid Lord of the Underworld, keeps tight, unrelenting control over our lead, Vivian. Finding balance between good and evil, angel and demon, and accepting the outcome was a common theme throughout
“The Shadow Mind Journal”.
Vivian uses her sharp wit to navigate her ever-changing circumstances, the ever-watchful eye of Haymen and the mysteriously conflicted Angel Boy, Gabe.

We have angels and demons. and than we have a hero...she is nobody’s hero but still...
As the story goes we start to get to know the main characters, mainly Vivian. She is a Guardian, her job is killing demons. And that she does.
I have read lots of books about demons and angels but this one is definately one of my favourites. I enjoyd it very much. Couldn’t put it down. I had to find out what will happen to Vivian and Angel Boy.
Can’t wait for the next book.

I do not often read books with angels and demons, mostly because I am so sick of this charade I hurts. But this book had such a stunning synopsis I really had to try it! And except for the confusion at first, it was pretty easy to fall in love with Vivian. (And Gabe..)
The story unfolds nicely, it has some rustiness but mostly given by the fact that it is a debut. However, if you love new adults with a bit of darkness and romance, that is totally for you!
