This held a lot more weight to it then I thought it would. I recently found this web comic through another web comic called gamer cat, which is similar to a newspaper comic strip. I expected something a little more light hearted then what this ended up being. That being said, it still was incredibly light hearted in tone for the most part, just not as much as I thought.

Meela, our main character has recently lost her brother and is now living on her own. It is then that she meets the mysterious mute feral, a bounty hunter who she begins to follow around. Little do they know they each harbor dark secrets that will cause conflict between the two of them.

The story mainly focuses on the relationship between Meela and feral, but the other characters are just as cool. It seems that everyone in this series has the ability to turn into different animals. Keep a and feral are wolves, but there are also bird, Deer, Fox, and Panthers.

It's a high fantasy adventure that has plenty of magic and strange goings on, but is also pretty down to watch and seems pretty relatable in other ways too.

It was cute, moving and in the end more impactful then I imagined, but still fluff.

I definitely have to give props to the artists, first off, for finishing their comic. I know that that's an extremely difficult thing to do and I congratulate them for it.

In terms of my review, it rings a similar tone to the previous two. The artwork is fantastic, barring stiffness in action. The story definitely got more interesting and detailed. I love the depth it took, I just wish it had been more spread out. There was a massive info dump at the end, which would have been nice to have been sprinkled around more, or at least given more time.

The ending felt way too rushed. This world and the characters especially could've benefited a LOT more with a longer story. As it is now, it's all crunched together and feels really awkward, with some bits feeling forced or random (like Visrial's battle at the end).

If the story had been given time to breathe, it would've been much stronger. It had a lot of potential. Same with the characters. Since this was supposed to be a story with more of a focus around the characters, it really felt weak to me. According to one of the authors, "The core of the story has always been Feral and Meela’s relationship." Which I had NO idea that that was the case, even /after/ finishing. There was little depth between the two from the get go, and it wasn't until the VERY end that there was any mention of the importance of their relationship, which seemingly came out of nowhere. Up until that point, there was no evidence of such growth or bond between them. (Yes, there was /some/ growth and bonding, but no where near the extent of what was implied by both the author and the ending.)

I believe I read the two plan on moving on to other projects, leaving this one behind. I'm sure that they've learned a lot from this comic and I do look forward to seeing where they go next. My main hope is to see the writing become just as strong of an aspect as the art. They have a lot of promise.

Strays was one of those webcomics I read as it was coming out, forgot about it for a while, then popped back in when I saw the kickstarter. It's a fun little nostalgia trip for me like a lot of them at the time. Anyone remember definitely-not-Wolf's-Rain-fanfic, Off-White?

Anyway, the story is lackluster, but you were mostly reading Strays for the art. Completing any webcomic, especially after working on it for so long, is a feat in itself. I don't blame the creators for getting tired of it and pulling the plug. It's unfortunate that's exactly how the ending feels though. Nothing sweeping is explained, and we still don't have a good grasp on how the world works. You are left with the sensation of finishing a single arc rather than a complete story. It just be like that sometimes though. Thanks for the fun, Strays.
