I checked this book out after I watched a movie, "The Iron Lady", with my parents. It's about Margaret Thatcher. She was the first woman to be elected Prime Minister of England and she stayed in power for about 10 years. It was very interesting to read about her and learn how she got into politics and made her way up even though it was different for women to get so involved at that time and especially to be so successful. She was called the "Iron Lady" because she was considered a very strong leader who was tough with the Communist countries like the Soviet Union and with the IRA, a group in Ireland. She served as England's Prime Minister at the same time Ronald Reagan was President of the United States. Prime Minister Thatcher and President Reagan's strong efforts helped end the Cold War with the Russians. I liked it because I like learning about important leaders in history and she is definitely one!

This is a fantastic introduction to Margaret Thatcher for elementary/middle school libraries and classrooms. Unfortunately, due to its publication date, 1985, it does not contain more current information; students and teachers would need additional material when covering Mrs. Thatcher or writing a biography.
