I have read many paranormal books, but never one quite like this.
Morgann is a monk, who has been assigned to help Deirdre write a book of medicine.
Right from the start he is drawn to her, he knows she is the one for him. But he has made a solemn oath to abstinence and the teachings of God, he should resist her. But he can’t. He loves her.
In the eight century, breaking your vow of celibacy was unheard of, not to mention carrying on with a woman who people deemed as a witch, so unfortunately, th

Mysteriously Unique! A debut fantasy paranormal NA romance that's full of delightful characters and an interesting storyline based upon the art of calligraphy writing and an unfinished magical book. So unusual and creative! I liked how the story slowly builds the suspense and kept me guessing!
A long time curse cast upon forbidden lovers has been lurking and wandering, making Morgann search for Deirdre for many centuries, but now present day fate has brought the two lovers souls together to fini

***FULL REVIEW:
I read this again after a couple of months to write a full review, so here goes.

First and foremost, I was crossing my fingers that this story wont leave me hangin. And thankfully it wont. I have recently been notified of a second book coming up. So amen to that!

Anyway, back to the review. I'll go for the likes first. It is very informative. By that meaning the characters were well presented, background and all. Personally, most YA I've read drag on and on about the story without p

A book that is realised on my favourite day of the year has to be a good start.
This book was creative and original.
I love when a book teaches me something... A random fact I probably should have already know especially supposing I was born in the 80's....
The Brat pack made up of the cast members from 1980's films such as breakfast club and St. Elmo's fire. Quite a lot of really good actors are part of this group. (I don't do spoilers therefore I will not be relating this fact to the book).

Rose is staying in Provincetown, MA with her American family leaving France behind to try and get over a terrible breakup. A breakup that has led her to harming herself just to be sure that she can still feel even if that feeling is pain. While on P-Town Rose enlists in Calligraphy classes it is there where she falls for one of her teachers. Morgann's soul has been jumping from body to body since Deidre was killed and she cast a

Holy Cow, what did I just read?

^^^ This was my first thought when I finished Twice Upon a Time, the debut novel by author Hope Irving. I have to admit, paranormal romance is not something I normally read. I was hesitant to start this at first and it took me a small amount of time to get into the story because it is so different than what I normally read. The writing is so detailed and brilliant, and I quickly became familiarized with terminology that's used in paranormal romances.

I'm SO GLAD I g

4.5 mystifying stars!!! Hooked from page one!! I couldn’t put it down!

This book will take you on a unique and powerful journey!! I don’t usually read paranormal books, but something about the blurb caught me and I had to read it!! I loved the whole idea of the book about souls that need to reconnect and/or be together. It really hit me in the heart!! The love that Deirdre and Morgann had for each was compelling and so beautifully written. I mean you could feel the torment dripping from the pages

ARC received in exchange for an honest review

Twice Upon A Time is truly a story of second chances, the second chance at the fairytale, the once upon a time. The novel features both romance and fantasy elements therefore touching upon a dystopian world.
Hope Irving isn't afraid to touch upon serious content within her novel such as self harm and death and her ability to write her characters as flawed and emotionall

This is the first paranormal romance I have ever read and I really enjoyed it because anything can happen in the paranormal. The plot twists were never what I expected and I found myself unable to put the book down. At the end of each chapter I had to turn the page to see what would happen next.
The romance between two main characters is intriguing because they are so overwhelmed by each other that they can't express themselves. The author describes their innermost thoughts. I found hoping they w

First, I would like to thank the author for gifting me this book through netgalley. I enjoyed this book very much. The characters are well developed and written. The storyline is well done. I loved Virgil and would like to know even more about him. Rose grew as a character throughout the story, but I felt she didn't listen. I cannot wait to read more from Hope Irving.

Twice Upon a Time by Hope Irving is the first instalment in the Black Angel Book series. It is the story of the witch Deidre, who, being in love with the calligrapher monk Morgann, casts a spell to reunite their souls in the future. However, while Morgann's hosts remember everything, Deidre's do not.

We later learn that the tale of Deidre and Morgann is believed to be legend, especially amongst calligraphers.

The opening chapter though informative is narrated in a casual manner, not from a once-up

In the 8th century, an Irish monk/calligrapher named Morgann did the forbidden act of falling in love and going against his pledge of celibacy. But he didn’t just fall in love with any one. He fell in love with a witch. Deirdre, the witch in question, fell in love with Morgann too, and together they worked on a book of spells that was coveted by the very people who tried to kill them. But before their demise, Deirdre placed a curse on them that would allow their souls to travel across time, occu ...more

This book was a refreshingly unique and captivating paranormal romance. Once upon a time, Deirdre (a sorceress/witch) required a calligrapher/scribe monk's assistance with writing a book of life and medicine which eventually became known as the "Black Angel Book." The book attracts the attention of evil individuals believing that it contains the secret to immortality and the lovers are pulled apart--- but ...more

Hope Irving writes in the most unique way that it leaves you hanging from word to word, chapter to chapter. Twice Upon A Time is a very remarkable novel that not only blends past and present together but adds in a little something extra for the readers to enjoy. When I first started reading Twice Upon A Time, I thought that maybe it was set in the present and would be more of a historical novel rather than one that is set in the past and present and can transition from one to the other without g ...more

Okay so how to put into words how this book made me feel.
I guess that is a little “WTF just happened?” kind of ending.
This is not a happily eve after kind of book. But man was it
weird too, in an interesting kind of way. This book is about
a book and a urban ledged. It dose have you puzzled as you
read. It is more like what world have happened in real life if
a witch had cast this spell. It would not be as simple as telling
her who she was to Virgil.

This debut novel from Hope Irving has characters from the 8th Century, as well as contemporary ones. There are a few flashbacks from Morgann, but mainly it is done as Virgil thinking, or occasionally writing, about things.

There is a lot happening in this book, and yet paradoxically, nothing much seems to happen either. Rose is an unhappy character when we first meet as she has broken up with her first long-term boyfriend/relationship and has taken to cutting herself. Virgil is described as a sex

Different. Paranormal, but it didn't 'feel' paranormal!
This book is so unique for a paranormal read. I could relate to the characters. I could picture them being one of my friends or at least, someone that I know. I loved this book!! It was real, with characters that have flaws. Recommended to anyone who enjoys a second-chance romance, within an original story.

Only complaint Virgil dude you go slower than a snail when it came to Rose. Seriously I have grandmas who are no longer with us that go faster in doing things than you did with Rose. It’s noble and sweet but you snooze you lose buddy.

this is a interesting twist on fairy tales. We have Virgil who is inhabited by the soul of Morgann. Morgann was a monk who fell in love with the witch whose soul is in Rose. She and Morgann wrote the Book of the Dead and this was coveted by many people. So we have t

Twice Upon a Star has a lot of potential. A forbidden love between a monk and a witch, then throw in the urban legend and that book called Black Angel Book. Who would say no to this Urban Fantasy?

There’s this one novella that captured my eyes a few months ago, a story (time travel/immortality) between a Knight and a modern woman. It was really good and I was sad that it was too short. So whenever I come across a book that it quite similar to it, I take a chance and one-click it. Reading the blu

4.5 Stars....

I kind of have no idea where to start on this review, because I'm still in a, 'what did I just read?' sort of place. This is a tough one to review, not because it's bad, but because I really liked it! I will admit, that I did not immediately get pulled into this book when I first started it. I put it down a few times and kept going back to it, because it started off a little slowly. I kept reading, because although it started slowly, (in my opinion) it was intriguing and it was just

Such a unique and exciting take on both a fairytale and fantasy. The two were combined brilliantly, and the fairytale aspect was completely different from any I have read before. This is definitely a story I want to continue and an author I will follow.

This is one of those books that I was really interested in reading because I was curious as to how the author would have the lovers souls would find and recognize each other. But while I did like the book and found some parts of it quite entertaining, I didn’t love it like I thought I would.
