Wow, I'm really surprised by how good this book turned out to be. I, as per usual nowadays, went into reading it completely blank. I think that's my new way of reading books. If the cover fits... Anyway, this is a solid four star read, that's for sure. The plot has such great dynamic and flow, we get to see throuout the whole book what happened in the past and how that still affects each of Sophia team member that was back then kidnapped and torture
I tried not to be harsh because this is a debut novel of this author, but, I must stress the complete bizarreness and weirdness going on in this book!

My first dislike was the telling instead showing....I felt disconnected from the story and from the characters and the lack of depth was evident.

Secondly, the lack of emotional connection was making it even harder to read...I was telling myself that this is debut novel and it may get better as I go along, but it did not, I felt nothing for the char

Did I read the same book as everyone else? I tried to love it. Really I did. I would have taken even liking it, but I just can't figure out why this book is getting these ratings. The story was told to me, instead of being shown. I don't want to read a whole book of someone telling me what's happening. I want to watch how it unfolds. Also, the writing itself was extremely lacking. There was no imagination whatsoever. I won't say I'll never read another book by this author, but her writing would ...more

Wow! I'm not sure what else I can say. This book was impressive for a debut. I had a hard time putting this down and if real life hadn't gotten in the way, I wouldn't have.

This story is about a girl. A girl who was abused. A girl who was neglected. A girl who was given the chance at a better life. Without writing a super spoiler-y review, I'm going to say that she did succeed at that better life. She joined the army, made some amazing friends, and then left the army for reasons I will

I'm not sure how a review I wrote will ever do this book justice. I want to rave about how much I loved it, how much it made me feel, how much it had me on the seat of my pants and kept me hooked from the very first page. Nothing I say will ever do this book justice. This is a book that you have to experience to get the full range of emotions.

Sophia and Nathan were such strong characters with out adding in the amazing plot. We get a sting heroine that despite her past can stand in her own two fe

This book was phenominal!!!! I loved the writing style being in alternate P.O.V.'s. This story is centered around a girl name Sophia who goes through a rough childhood, and joins the military where she endures unspeakable tortures, and also has several other characters who go through different tragic life experiences and terrorists. This book is jam packed full of suspense, action, and mystery. Along with all the action going on there is also a sweet love story with a story of unbreakable bonds, ...more

I was given this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This is K.L Humphrey's debut novel and when I began reading this book it felt like she had been writing for years. The storyline was strong and had me hooked from page one. The emotions she conveyed through her words had me crying and also laughing in different places.

Sophia had an abusive early childhood until she met the Dallas'. She joined the army as a way of dealing with her grief. She is a strong independent woman who proves ti

This book took me by complete surprise! I didn't know what to expect and boy did I get more than I could ever hope in a great book! Sophia is a tough as nails former military woman. She grew up in a terrible home, having a terrible childhood. Nathan is the man who plans on breaking down that tough exterior. He's what every man should be. He's warm, loving, kind but also a true man when it comes to taking care of what he needs to take care of. Even though Sophia is more than capable of taking of ...more

I just don't know how to start this review....I had no idea what this book was about and I am so pleased that I went in blind. I was absolutely BRILLIANT. I cannot find enough superlatives to describe how much I enjoyed this book. KL Humphreys' writing style was so easy to read, it just flowed beautifully from page to page and scene to scene. All of her characters were strong, whether you liked them or not. I simply could not put this book down.

There are certain books that stay with you once you have finished reading them. This is one of those books that is written so well and has such a great story that it stays with you days after reading it. I was entranced from the first page and was sitting on the edge of my seat throughout the book waiting to see what happens next. The plot of the story was fantastic and had me laughing and crying throughout it. You were able to see the heartbreak, grief and pain that the main character was exper ...more

Sophia is being tortured. The pain and suffering she is enduring is nothing short of horrific. She’s watched her best friend murdered in front of her eyes, he’s laying motionless in the corner. Day after day they come back to try to break her. But Sophia is strong and there is no way in hell she’s going to let this bastard win. She will never forget his face or his voice, and it

This is not normally the type of book I would read. I was a military wife for 8 yrs and even though my husband was USAF and never saw anything like that as he was support not combat, I have had a few family that have been in the Army and Marines, so this was very much not an easy read for me as it hits way to close to home in some aspects. With that being said, I read the book anyway and I'm glad that I did.

This story really hit close to home on many levels...I was never abandoned by my mom like

I am going to tell you right from the start, my one Huge Problem with this Debut by KL Humphreys: SHE MADE ME UGLY CRY PUBLIC! I tried to stop it...I tried to put it down and wipe the tears away but I had to know what happened so I found myself picking it back up and yep there they went again. So, Note to self....only Read a KL Humphreys book when I am in a safe place where no one can see me cry. It's probably also a good thing to be in a nice, safe, private place when you experience the chemist ...more

I enjoyed this book. I liked that Nathan wasn't looking for a one-night stand but for a real relationship. I loved the many personalities from the abusive egg donor to the loving mother and devoted father and brothers to the friends with serious issues to the bitchy boyfriend's sister.
I would almost swear Sophia's was bipolar. There is a massive case of insta-love, especially on Nathan's side but it works.

Wow what can I say. This book had me gripped from the start. A fantastic story of Sophia a strong female character and all the trauma she's been through. When Nathan meets her it's love at first sight with lots crossed wires white lies and more. This is a amazingly well written book and all the descriptions and characters feel so real. This is a must read book I would highly recommend to others. I so can't wait to read more from this author.

Sophia Dallas is a strong woman returning from military service where she meets Nathan Slade, private eye. Love them both! Sophia is strong, yet vulnerable, and Nathan is every woman's dream. There are some surprises, as well! Recommended for adults.

Sophia has had a rough life from the start. Being unloved and beaten, to losing her adoptive mom, to being tortured while serving, she has much to overcome. She’s strong, independent, take no crap and someone to admire. Nathan is the perfect yin to her yang supporting her and being there for her without being controlling.

I loved the storyline and how there was more than just Sophia and Nathan’s story. We saw glimpses into other characters lives that could

This book didn't suck me in at the beginning but it began to grow on me. Sophia is a very complex strong women. She has a past that she just can't seem to get rid of. Nathan is hopefully the man that can bring love and security to this women who needs it. Will they be able to rid their selves of the past and make things work? Grab this book and see why I'm a K.L. Humphreys fan.

The concept of this story: Sophia was an abused child who was adopted into a loving family. She later joined the army and whilst on active duty was captured and tortured. Great idea and great start. There was a decent ending too. But in between, I found it very predictable and messy and it just didn't grab me at all.

This is one heck of a book! It's the first one of this author's that I've read but it definitely won't be the last!
The story centres around many people but the lead characters are Nathan and Sophia who are both strong, sensible, well-balanced people. Sophia is an ex-army soldier who was medically discharged and Nathan is an ex-fed who runs his own successful guard and PI business.
The two meet and are instantly attracted to each other. This attraction leads them down many action packed pathways.

This is the debut book by KL Humphreys. I loved this whole storyline, one of my favourite genres is romantic suspense, I love intrigue and the whole ‘whodunnit’ aspect of a book.

This is about Sophia, a soldier in the American army, she gets discharged after being kidnapped and tortured by the Taliban. Sophia has struggled to find the woman she was before, her friends Winter and Maddie are there for her but there’s something underlying between t

War leaves it's mark on Sophia and the ones you can see are the easiest to contend with; the ones on her soul will take longer to heal. After a hard start to life, the U. S. Army gives Soph a purpose and strengthens her already indomitable will. After something that would break most people, she separates from the Army, returns home to her wonderful family and (jacked up) friends. She soon realizes things will never be the same. Family is suddenly keeping secrets, friends find themselves at odds ...more

This is an amazing debut novel by an up and coming author. This novel has it all; drama, romance and suspense just to name some of the things that will keep you turning the page long after you should have gone to bed. It will keep you guessing and biting your nails too. I laughed, I cried and I shouted. I think you will too.
We start off on edge as we meet the sassy heroine of this book, Sophia, a war vet with a heart of gold and a mouth like a sailor, to me, the perfect combination. She is recov

Deadly Hunt was the story of Nathan and Sophia. She's an ex soldier who recently left the army after a horrific assault at the hands of the enemy. He's an ex FBI agent turned bodyguard/P.I. When the two meet and start a relationship, it turns out they are more involved than they realise, and it's not long before they are fighting for their lives.

KL Humphreys shows some serious promise. Deadly Hunt really drew me into the story, I was turning page after page wanting to know who the enemy was and

Oh my...what can I say about Deadly Hunt? First off, I ended up loving the book. When I first started the book I was in shock and a little upset about the relationship between Nathan and Sophia but after reading more of the story their whirlwind romance was only a small (but important) part of the story. But let me tell you, the book just got better and better. I was on the edge of my seat, sweating the entire time.

Pain, loss, heartbreak, strengthen, love, courage, trust, betrayal, suspense.

Holy guacamole! For a debut novel, this was insanely good! Hell, for a novel full stop it's incredible!
Deadly Hunt is addictive, brilliant and draining! Yes, it is completely emotionally draining! Even now, thinking of some parts of this makes me so sad and some make me so angry!
I totally didn't see some of it coming! The twists were explosive and highly unexpected.
Sophia and Nathan could melt a chair! They are STEAMING HOT! The sex scenes were amazing, they didn't make me cringe or want to skip

I think that this book should be more labeled as a dark romance because there are a ridiculous amount of torture and triggers involved in this book. But I did like the characters to an extent.

They played an incredible role in playing things that are hard to talk about.

We have hostages, adventures, sexy time, pain, suffering, and heartache. But round and round we go in the story. After the third time, you kind of just got tired of everything and everyone in the book.

l want to start off by saying that this book has great potential. It was a really good baseline of the story. The plot was really good. I did really like the characters and all the suspense surrounding this story. Nathan and Sophia have this instalove thing and that in itself makes it hard to immediately connect with them, however I did end up connecting with them. I want to really stress that I really did enjoy this book as a whole. There were things about it that I didn't like but more than an ...more
