I am so addicted to this series!
I had no idea, when I picked up the first book, that I would get sucked in so quickly and so completely. Tracey Ward has managed to provide this sort full package sports romance: well researched sports, multi-dimensional characters, romance with emotional depth, and super compelling storytelling. Literally – the full package.
That said, I struggled more with Kurtis and Harper’s story than I did with the others. Part of that is that Kurtis is brooding, closed off, and closed mouthed for so much of the story. I felt like the initial foundation for the romance was physical – and that’s always a tough sell for me. The dialogue is my sweet spot, banter is my catnip, and in the absence of those two things – I struggle to connect. So it took me a long, long time to warm up to these two.
Once it happened though?
Guh. So in love. There is a lot to love about this story. It’s earnest and honest and emotionally rewarding. Even having struggled to connect with the characters, there were moments between them that took my breath away. I didn’t always feel them the way I wanted to feel them, but I still enjoyed their story so much. It’s a bit more serious than the others. It felt a little more intense and where I was looking for smiles and butterflies, I got some heavier, darker emotions and complicated back-stories. But I’m still so glad to have taken this ride.
Toward the end of the story Harper reveals that she feels like the Kodiak team is her family. I feel that too. These boys are so special, so much fun to read, and so ingrained in my heart at this point. I can’t wait to reconnect with them all in the next story! ~ Shelly, 3.5 Stars
