Excellent sequel to Sand of Bone, goes in deep on exactly the thing that interests me most--the intersection of devotion/love and power/control in a relationship between a (near) god and an ordinary human, and how a relationship of mutual dependence can be abused or transformative. Rounded up from 4.5 because I loved it. :)

This little series - 2 books so far - is one of my favourite fantasy reads EVER. (Blair's other full-length novel, Sword and Chant, which I think is set in the same universe at a far different time is really good too!) It's smart, non-formulaic, adult, thoughtful, fun, action-packed and dilemma-filled. But not the kinds of dilemmas that are huge and bombastically dramatic, but more personal, character-driven and complicated in their effects. It's darkish

The Second volume of Blair MacGregor's trilogy continues right off where the first one stopped. Blair writes fantasy -- adventurous, epic, and dark. Her debut novel Sword and Chant was included in the first Indie Fantasy Bundle through StoryBundle, and her more recent novel Sand of Bone was included in the 2015 Fantasy Bundle.

Her short fiction has appeared in Cicada and Writers of the Future. She is a graduate of Viable Paradise and a member of SFWA.
