Flynn is finally coming into her power, finding her own form of magic, a very old sort of magic and more powerful than any known presently in Aetearoa. Many in the coven are still trying to treat her like a 'watcher' and disparage her. She is persuaded by the forest witch to go on her seeking trip to find her true self, and she goes alone but for her falcon hoping to meet Dundedin and learn where she came from. On her way she comes across a group of people who lived in the wild, roaming the fore ...more

Key to the Journey is the second book in The Chronicles of Hawthorne, and like the first book is a fantastic read. It picks up from where book one finishes. Flynn is dragged before the coven, and the latest discovery ensures she is removed from all her initiate training. Hazel speeds to Dreamwood Forest hoping to seek the aid of the three hundred year old witch within, and realised too late that she lacks the skill to ensure she reaches there safely. She awakes to find herself a prisoner of the ...more

I throughly enjoyed it. It had its dark moments but love, kindness sees them through. Its really a story all can relate to because we all have our own “dark moments” and how we react to those times makes us stronger or unfortunately can destroy us. A lesson of life moment (s).

You really should read this series!! Rue is a wonderful author and if you just start it you’ll find you are under her “spell”. The pages fly by and before you know it you’re at the end of the book and asking what comes next

I chose to read this book after receiving a free e-copy from the author. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.

I read An Average Curse which is a fantasy for middle grade readers and older and I was looking forward to reading the next book in the series, Key to the Journey.

Key to the Journey is a quick read and I liked it even more than the first book. It is full of friendship, hope, adventure and magic.

As soon as Flynn starts showing signs of ancient magic, the elders

Always considered a Watcher, Flynn, the ninth daughter of the ninth daughter, savior of her people, has finally touched her magic in front of witnesses, a deep magic unknown for centuries. Rather than solve Flynn's problem's however this just adds to the troubles of her everyday life and now her best friend Hazel is missing! Flynn must find a way to solve these problems but Hazel always has the best plans. On her first but far from last adventure of this installment Flynn and Po have to rescue H ...more

A journey to discover her magic

I really enjoyed the book since he's always been different than everyone in her clan thinking she was without magic now she has to journey to discover how it works. Along the way she discovers pieces of her past she never knew existed.

Two months ago I read the first book in this series by Rue. Even though it is a genre I am not really fond of, I enjoyed the first book and LOVED the second book.

Flynn Hawthorn, the ninth daughter of the ninth daughter, has finally realized her special power, a power unheard of in Moa Bend. Flynn’s mother can finally be proud of her. But there is a rift in the friendship between Flynn and her BFF Hazel. But now Hazel is missing and Flynn must find her. With the assistance of young Po, Flynn trav

Such an addictive read I could not put it aside for several hours... until I came to the end.
Flynn was considered a Watcher for fourteen years, but now her magick starts to wake up and demonstrate its power. However, her magick is different from the magick of other witches in the village - an ancient form, intuitive and forceful. When she learns the truth about her father, she sets off for a journey with Oturu, an unusual falcon, on a quest to uncover her past and accept her powers. The turmoil

Flynn unlocks a few more mysteries concerning her past as well as glimpses into a very uncertain future. This writer did an amazing job with the transition from book one into book two. The ease of following Flynns journey through these written words makes reading pure joy. I love it when the tale just blooms into life while reading. As this book unlocks some of the mysteries for Flynn, it also leads us eagerly into awaiting book three. This voluntary review is based against an advance copy.
