Kai struggles to recover from the nightmare of death she endured and she blames Oliver for his dark secrets and lies by omission. To be honest, so does Oliver. There is more going on inside Kai than her crumbling marriage. She feels darker, more violent, even in her broken and battered condition, her telepathy can b

Book two in the series takes off from where book one ended. Telepathic Kai is recovering from injuries that not only left her physically and emotionally wounded but with new powers as well, powers that could do more harm than good. This creates another wall between her and Oliver, a wall their already strained marriage doesn't need.

This relationship angst mingled with family secrets, hidden pasts, and a murder whose truth has yet to come out make "Highway Thirteen to Manhattan" an emotion-packe

Kai barely survives a near encounter with death. Her quest to uncover herself drives a bridge between her and Butternut. Jealousy really gets between her relationship with Oliver as she chooses her brother Caleb over him. However, things aren't always as they seem...

I really struggled with deciding between giving this book 3.5 stars and 4 stars. As much as I wanted to give it 4 stars, potentially more, I feel like I cou

In this second installment of the Six Train series, Kourtney Heintz proves that she’s a masterful storyteller. The story’s path turns darker in this book and it’s filled with twists and surprises.

With alternating first person narratives, we see that Oliver and Kai’s marriage is crumbling. Outside forces and inner demons continue to pull them apart. We begin to wonder if they’ll be able to hold everything together.

In the beginning, Kai is at a physical and mental low point. She’s trying to recove

OMG! This series was to die for, I was able to read both books back to back and let me tell you I am in serious love with the books. I could not put them down. I am trying to get away from reading late at night so I don't stay up all night but sadly I did not do that with this book

Kai was someone I really felt drawn to. Especially from the first chapter where you can read on The Cubicle Escapee. I felt as if I knew Kai in deeply. Kai was passionate, Kai was a very complex character that you can

This is book 2 in the “Six Train to Wisconsin” series and is no less exciting than the first. Kai and Oliver are back and things between them are not good. Kai is experiencing changes in her powers which she struggles to understand. Oliver’s guilt about what happened in book 1 drives him to desperation and everyone around them seems to want them to break up. Kai turns to brother Caleb for support and understanding, while Oliver is still fighting his feelings for Mickey. What will become of their ...more

Highway Thirteen to Manhattan is book #2 in this psychic thriller series. As it continues where book #1 left off, I do suggest reading The Six Train To Wisconsin first.

This book opens with Kai Richter in hospital recovering from a life threatening attack. But because Kai is a telepath she can hear all the thoughts of every patient and person in the hospital and their suffering, the medication she's given for the pain stops her creating a psychic shield to the voices and instead of getting better

The sequel to The Six Train to Wisconsin was definitely worth the wait! Highway Thirteen to Manhattan is stunning!

The story starts right where Six Train leaves off. Kai is recovering after her near death experience, caused by Oliver’s secrets. But Kai has secrets of her own. As a new darkness grows inside of her, their marriage continues to crumble. While Kai grows stronger with this darkness, Oliver dives deep into his pain from

With many of the things - the occasional full page black and white photographs, the dual narration, the emotional roller-coaster of a ride etc - that made the first book in the series, The Six Train To Wisconsin, such a hit also present in this, the second novel, how could I fail but to enjoy Highway Thirteen To Manhattan?

Books that without doubt should be read in order (and not just because the first is so good). This follows straight on from the last instalment as Kai and Oliver struggle with

I had to see how the story continues. The moment I saw this one on NetGalley I requested it without second thoughts. I am pretty content with the way the story develops. The sequel is a tad darker and that gives is the spiciness I lacked in the first book from the series.

This second book in this series dives right into making Kai a darker person, teeter-tottering on pure evil, and who isn’t afraid of her telepathic power. This gives us a darker story than its predecessor. The love story is torturous and Kai no longer feels much for her husband and is turning to another. Oliver is not sure what to so, save his marriage even if he feels he already has lost Kai, or let his conscious dictate he avenged the dead friend from his past. Emotions are complex, haunting, a ...more

This is the much-anticipated sequel to Six Train to Wisconsin, and Highway Thirteen begins with the aftermath of the events of that book. Kai and her husband are struggling to come to terms with her kidnapping and near death experience and their marriage may be falling apart as a result. Kai is a unique character, a telepath who can read others' thoughts, but she has developed an unexplained new gift of drawing and is finding ...more

These two main characters drive me nuts! I can't bring myself to like wither one of them for their actions. But I cannot stop reading them. The mystery of what was going on with Caleb and with Kai held me enthralled. I will definitely read more in this series, as I assume there is at least a third book. Can you read this on its own? Yes, but in fairness to yourself you really should read "Six Train"[[ASIN:B00CJIXKG2 The Six Train to Wisconsin (The Six Train to Wisconsin series Book 1)]] first to enjoy the depth and breadth of the story. This is a very complex, layered, and fascinating tale and is enhanced by the myriad details lovingly unfolded in Book 1 which provide dimension to the events in Book 2. Although not billed as such, this has many of the elements of a psychological thriller and wi ...more

The first book was phenomenal and I was hopeful the sequel would be even better. WELL IT WAS! Intrigue, romance, mystery, humor blending a story so well written I can't wait for the next book. Heintz captures the essence of her characters with plot twists that keep the pages flipping. The suspense kept me wanting more and were it not for work I would have finished it in one day. Killer super powers! Kai and Oliver's story started with Six Train to Wisconsin and was left kind of in the IN BETWEEN! Wonderful or not so wonderful character evolution takes place for Kai which in turn affects Oliver. Kai who can read minds is now battling dark forces that she has discovered are dangerous but that she likes!!! They make her stronger and more able to handle the nightmare of the thoughts of those around her.

This is the second book in the The Six Train to Wisconsin. This book picks up where the first one ended. Kai, who can read minds, was injured when she heroically saved a child from certain death.

This light paranormal series just didn't hit for me. I hated the relationship between Kai and Oliver, they had a sophomoric connection that never grew up. They just couldn't get it together and make it work. On a personal note, Kai's pet turkey

Lukas' mom, Mickey still pines for Oliver, and Oliver is either too stupid or clueless to get the hint that she is dangerous for his marriage. Mickey's big brother Alex is gorgeous and is just the ticket for Kai to make Oliver jealous or is it something more?

Kourtney Heintz in a new addition to my 'favourite authors' list. Love her style of writing and her story lines. The endings are not always what we want to read, but they are realistic and thought provoking. I cannot say too much here of the story line, because you must read the first book 'The Six Train to Wisconsin', before reading this one. In this sequel, Kai suffers through a tragedy that brings a change to her, brings a darkness that she has to deal with. Oliver, her husband, suffers too j ...more

I bought the first book of the series when I got accepted on Netgalley to read this one. I devoured the first book. I liked this one, a little less than the first, but can't wait to read the next one anyways ;-)

The author knows how to captivate the reader. Thank God my ereader has a light... I read the book instead of sleeping!

I LOVED the first book in this series, THE SIX TRAIN TO WISCONSIN. It was full of suspense, mystery, and painted a realistic picture of what might happen to a marriage under the circumstances Kai and Oliver faced. All the characters in that book felt rich, honest, and fully three dimensional, so I could certainly understand where they were coming from, even if I didn’t particularly like them. And there were a few characters I really didn’t like. I was glued to the story from beginning to end, dy ...more

In Highway Thirteen to Manhattan, Kai is dealing with a darkness she can't understand. Her marriage and her family are falling apart and the emotional struggles of pulling a life back together after trauma is too much to bear-and she feels she is facing it all on her own.

Highway Thirteen is an intimate look into the trials of trauma, not only those faced by the victim, but by everyone connected to them.

As yesterday was World Mental Health Day, I have to say this series is a great way to introduc
