Electrician Sophie North felt as if she'd touched a live wire the first time she laid eyes on Tyler Barnes. Hardly unexpected. He had a heartbreaking grin, an incredible body, and a thousand watts of cowboy charm. Half the single women in Brodie, Texas, were out to snag him now that he was setting up his veterinary practice.
But Sophie was just passing through. And she'd sworn never to live her life at the mercy of her own passionate nature—not after passion had destroyed her chance for a real family. Nevertheless, every time Tyler came near her response was shocking. Which wasn't supposed to be happening. Lightning was only supposed to strike once!
I often read of or hear about authors who knew they were meant to tell stories from the time they left the crib. Me? I didn't decide what I wanted to be when I grew up until I was thirty years old - and then sold my first book at thirty-four. Still, it was obvious that I always knew I was going places.
Like so many other authors, I was a voracious reader from day one, devouring everything from Nancy Drew to My Friend Flicka, which I remember sitting hovered over the heater vent in the kitchen floor to read while my father made his coffee.
I moved on to my mother's Phyllis Whitney, Dorothy Eden, and Mary Stewart gothics before discovering my first true romances written by Lucy Walker and set in the Australian Outback. And then, at last, when I was 18 I found 'The Flame and the Flower'. (My son almost spent his life as Brandon because of that, but I spared him and named him Casey instead!)
Why write romance? Because love stories have always been a major part of the books I've loved. Father Ralph and Meggie Cleary. (I did name my daughter Megan after reading The Thorn Birds! Do you see a trend here?) The aforementioned Brandon Birmingham and Heather Simmons. Wolf Mackenzie and Mary Potter.
Even more so, it's because I love writing romance heroes. The men who sweep both heroines and readers off their feet - not to mention their authors, too!
I've spent several years happily writing action adventure romance for Kensington Brava along with hot and sexy series romances for Harlequin Blaze. Now I'm thrilled to be a launch author for Vows.
So, I was in college while reading this and holy shit I couldn't stop reading and then there was this super hot scrabble game scene that made me want to call the fire department. This book was hot, sexy and romantic.
The hero is a flirt but a good one, he has just come back to town to open his own veterinarian practice. The heroine is an engineer by training but works as an electrician, leading a nomadic life, wanting to find her father who walked out when she was 5. Her desire for family reeked of childhood dreams yet it was so sad because in reality she grew up with a mother who cared only about men, so passion was something she wasn't looking for. So, when she is stranded with the hero, the emotion and the passion that flares between them is scary.
I loved it how the hero fell for her so soon and wanted her to stay and take a chance with him while she was so vulnerable. Loved the book and I loved seeing the hero's elder brother and sister-in-law and kids. Going to read the first book now.
It truly is amazing. A tender love story with just the right amount of heat. When Sophie and Tyler meet there is an instant attraction. She is obsessed with the search for her father. He left the family when she was five years old. The search gets in the way of her romance with Tyler. Will Sophie realize what is most important for her, finding her father or loving Tyler? I highly recommend PLAY ME by Alison Kent.
Rating 2.5. This is my first experience with this author. I’m not a fan of the monologue story telling. Nor am I a fan of being told about the characters life experiences. I prefer to experience it with them. With that said, the story started out pretty good. Then I found myself bored to death. I did not feel a love connection between Tyler and Sophie. In fact, we did not get to enjoy their relationship grow. Sophie just told us they became friends. Next thing you knew, they were confessing their love. The concept was good, but the writing style was not for me. I felt there were holes in the story for me. I’m completely in the minority, so please give it a try.
This was... terrible. I picked up this one after the promising novella I read yesterday by this same author and was wholly let down. The fact that the main character was an electrician drew me in, that this hardworking woman was the main character intrigued me, but then her motivation for this job was for a man then she LEFT that job for a man, and all of her morals and principles went out the window. Admittedly they were things she probably needed to do away with but having her whole identity and goal set and ambitions be about men REALLY rubbed me the wrong way. What a disappointing read. Also the main male character is a fucking creep.
So I love these two books and these two brothers! What a story! And holy cow what amazing sensuality! The characters were terrific and the story line was great. I really enjoyed the story telling and dialogue! The side components and characters made it believable and relatable and funny! The characters had stuff to work through but I never cried and after a long day that's just perfect!
This book starts out like no other, with a female electrician and the local vet who owns the hospital she’s working on,then goes downhill from there...for the vet that is! She spends all of her free time trying to stay out of his way, except she can’t,and things go on from there. This book will pull at your heartstrings and keep you up late to finish, but believe me, it’s worth it! So please do yourself a favor and read this book! I really liked it!
Sophie worked as an electrician and enjoyed it. She traveled with her construction crew and right now they are building a vet clinic. Taylor was come home to start his vet clinic after college and his brother built him a home in the ranch. Sophie & her dog cowboy were a surprise connection. She was hard headed and he was stubborn.
I recommend this book if you love sweet cowboy romances...
What I loved about this book is that it had a wonderful, sweet and funny touch. I loved how well-rounded the characters were written. I wasn’t ready for the book to end. I hope the author will continue their story because there is definitely more story to be told.
Nice story would have been happier with different ending but sometimes real life happens
I enjoyed the fact that the both character s were strong in some ways but also sensitive. I do think however that an ending that she finds who she is looking for, even if it's another entire family would have been nicr.
Another beautiful story from Ms Kent that I could not put down. I absolutely love the writing style! Sweet with just the right amount if heat. I do have a few unanswered questions left regarding (no spoilers) the trip to Houston, but can make a few guesses.
I felt this story was quick, but it was good. It also had some good steam. I liked Sophie and Tyler from the start. I felt their relationship moved along a little too quickly for Sophie’s personality. I liked all the secondary characters also. I need to go back to read book one just to know more about Gardner and Harley’s story.
I was hoping that Tyler Barnes would have a great gal to make him happy and he does with Sophie North. His brother Gardner sent him to Vet school and he has come home to the people he loves. He is working with the old vet but building a new Veterinary hospital as well as having a new home built for him by his brother as a graduation gift.
Sophie is the electrician and these two have some chemistry right away plus get stranded in a rain storm at the cabin she is staying at because the bridge washes out. Pretty hot and heavy scrabble game occurs and things build in a hurry. Sophie is scared of being dependent on anyone else because of her past and this causes some problems but love finds a way. She has a dog named Cowboy that is her traveling companion and plays a major part of the story too. Scary moments for him and a chance for Tyler to come to the rescue and do what he does best. A good story.
I liked the story and the build up of the relationship even though it was instalust between the MCs. Parts of the story did drag a bit for me although I know that others like the angst and details. The Heat level started strong, then very little until the last 25% of the story. Definitely worth the read.
One hot cowboy veterinarian encounters one sweet lady electrician. Sparks fly in the rain. Can love really change your dreams? Great continuation of the Barnes brothers. ❤️👓📖❤️
Where can I meet a Tyler? Oh my lord what a surprisingly good read. Great characters and a good storyline. Haven’t read the first book but this read well without having done so. Heartwarming , sexy and romantic with strong women and charismatic men.
This book is a great heartwarming story of love and home. It shows that home truly is where the heart is. There are wonderful characters that give off the feeling of home. I would recommend this book to any one who enjoys warm fuzzies.
I stayed up a good portion of the night to finish this book in one sitting. Both charActers were strong and we'll defined. Couldn't help but fall for Tyler in the first few pages.
Really enjoyed this book. They had some great times and were a attracted to each other. There were Sparks. I loved the characters in this book. I recommend this book.
I would recommend this book to adults that enjoy stories that are laugh out loud funny, steamy, and oh so romantic, with strong characters both male and female. Well done
Sophie and Tyler meet under unusual circumstances. But they click almost immediately. Now Tyler just needs to convince Sophie that they have a future together.
This author tells an imaginative story with great characters. It doesn't feel make-up or HEA. It feels real and special. Did in, you'll be glad you did.
Wonderful read, excellent writing. Charming, sexy, romantic. Now I remember why Alison Kent was one of my favourite Harlequin Blaze authors. 5 Stars Loved it!
