What in the holy heck did I just read? I am still reeling from that ending! So many questions! Can't wait for the discussion with the author and other readers! I think I need to to read this again cuz I obviously missed a whole bunch of stuff!
The debut from E. Raye Turonek started off with a bang so to speak. My mouth was wide open. What makes someone a killer? Are you born a killer? Has something in your life happened that compells you to murder? I thoroughly enjoyed this read. It was a realistic look at what happens to a family when tragedy strikes as well as how a broken home can affect the children. I don’t usually read murder mystery type books but this book grabbed me and kept my attention. This book is EyeCU approved
So this book had so much potential to be amazing, but it completely fell short. The actual plot, as chaotic and back and forth as it was, wasn’t bad. But the writing was not good and some content was way out of place and forced.
Book Review: Compelled to Murder Ebony E. Raye Turonek
What would compel someone to commit murder? Is it the need for the thrill, some sick compulsion, or the need to avenge the death of a love one! What ever the reason, most that commit these crimes have planned and calculated how they will pull it off.
This book here, was some Angela Lansbury, Murder she wrote, Columbo, meets Cannon kind of crime mystery drama! Oh my lord Jesus, she started right from the beginning with a crime so heinous and heartbreaking, I was left trying to figure out where she was going to take us next! Let me tell you where she took us! She took us on one of the best cat and mouse, can you catch a killer rides that I have been on for a minute. This is a true crime mystery drama novel!
I was pointing the finger at everyone and everyone was a suspect as we tried to find this serial murderer before he killed someone else!
Everyone knows you cannot bridle the inconsolable pain of a parent when they have lost their child to a senseless act of violence. Some will accept that the police are doing all they can do while others do what the police won’t do and investigate beyond the perimeters of what the law would allow! This was the father John! John gave up everything and became consumed with finding the murderer of his daughter. The police just did not have the answers as bodies began piling up. No clues, no suspects, but John would not let that deter him from trying to find out who killed his only daughter.
John kept searching and then strange things started to happen that had me pointing the finger at everyone, male, female, just everyone because everyone seemed guilty. The final twists, turns and revelations surprised me as it all played out before me because while I had some wavering suspicions, I was not sure if I was on the right track! Which is what makes this book a really good read, because you weren’t sure as to who the real suspect was.
I enjoyed this novel thoroughly as this is my favorite genre! I could actually see this being a movie. I would definitely recommend this book to fellow readers especially if you love crime/mystery novels!! Excellent job!
This is my first read by E. Raye Turonek and let me just start by saying, "WOW!"
”Compelled To Murder” is written in such great detail it reads like a cinematic action packed thriller that’s SURE to keep you on edge! As the body count continues to rise, so does the suspense, motive and unpredictable plot twist! Even after replaying the turn of events in my head, I’m still in AWE. This is one of those reads that’ll stick with ya long after you’re finished! I could most definitely see “Compelled To Murder” on THE BIG SCREEN! IT NEEDS TO BE ON THE BIG SCREEN so I suggest you 1-Click NOW and see for yourself!
Compelled to Murder, held my short attention span from the immediate start of the novel. John and Megan seemed to be a happy couple; it wasn't until tragedy struck that it became apparent they were anything but. That horrid night only exacerbated their troubled marriage, splitting it in half, for good. Author E. Raye Turonek, possesses all the right ingriedents to be a leader in the suspense genre. I felt complete uncertainty until it was actually revealed who done it. Try to predict if you may, but the author doesn't give you many hints. I'm anticipating a sequel. Hopefully here, motives will be revealed.
Compelled To Murder was a page turner from the beginning to the end. The storyline was well developed and has multilayers to it. This story took me on a roller coaster ride and keep me on it until the very last page.
The character was well developed and made you love them and hate the all at the same time. The ending was heart dropping and left me with my mouth wide opening and waiting to see what next in the sequel.
This was genre was definitely worth the experience. Reading this book was awesome, I usually tend to stray away from murder mysteries but this one had me wanting to read more. One of the best things about the author is that she is willing to clear up my confusion in reading. This books was suspenseful from beginning to end. I truly enjoyed it. Great read!
Wonderfully crafted tale of warped minds, evil deeds. A mystery with in a mystery without being clumsy or cliche. Good dose of suspense with just a smidge of bloody gore. I was thoroughly entertained from the first scream to the last. I happily recommend.
I love books likes this. You have no idea who the murders are and soon as you think you got the right one, somebody else seems suspicious. And then the twist in this book! It's always the person you least expect😒 5*
Good as all hell! Wow. I couldn't stop! The scenes had me there. The suspense...OMG! And the ending! The ending was to die for. Well written. Crafty. This book was very, very good. Can't wait for another one!
This was very intriguing. It drew you in from the beginning waiting to imagine what would happen next. The bodies piled up as the suspicion grew. It was death all over. All the while surprise realizations came to light.
This was a good 1st read as the storyline was engaging throughout and surprising at the end. The characters were realistic and I could envision the scenes taking place. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
What would compel someone to murder? Revenge, a vigilante, or ...
I don't read a lot of murder mysteries but I've been branching out lately from my typical genre, and I'm glad I did.
Fantastic characters that draw you in and a compelling story that keeps you guessing until the very last chapter.
I did not guess who did what, which I usually do. The author did a fantastic job making it where everyone had done it until it unravels and shocks you at what you find.
It also starts off quite a scene that was heartbreaking, uncomfortable, but got me locked me in from the beginning.
If you love a good murder mystery, pick this one up.
This book had good potential to be a great book but it got lost. There was too much in this book and didn't get edited down. The author had a lot of good ideas but they either got lost in the book or there was too much. *****SPOILERS AHEAD***** To elaborate more, in the first part of the book John liked to hunt down people who were bad people and kill them. But that thought completely dissolved after he killed 2 people, there was no elaborating on it and it didn't continue through out the book, it just stopped. Also from the Narrators point of view you have to be careful of putting too much detail in. There was so many people and so many elaborate explanations that I had a hard time keeping track of who was who. The first murder is spine chilling. Then it says one year later but the author doesn't tell us if the murders stopped or if there was more, so it was hard to follow the story beyond that point, it got a little confusing. Also a very big fan of murder books/TV shows, such as; criminal minds and James Patterson novels. And this book really needed to pick a specific signature, the author tried taking every murderer and crime thing and just shove it into one person. The first 2 people were killed very brutally, then the third was just killed by a blow to the head, then fourth was stabbed, then the fifth was blown up, then the last was brutally murdered again. Serial killers have a signature and one that got off my stabbing someone wouldn't also get off by burning someone alive. And also none of the victims had notes left on their bodies. But then the last victim did with pieces cut out of a magezine which I found very cliche. At the end of the book the killer for the 1st, 2nd, and last murders is apparently obvious. But the author does not explain why he was obsessed with this family, why did he take a whole year to kidnap and kill the rest of the family? Then at the very end it comes out that the brother of the 1st victim was the one who killed the 3rd, 4th, and 5th victims. I understand this author was trying to catch you off gaurd but it didn't make any sense. Again, he killed them all different ways, which is not how serial killers work, they need to satisfy a certain ritual in order to get off. Also during the books it says that he also attacked Emma, which was also his girlfriend. But if he would have taken a beating the way the book said the killer did, no way he could have seen her the next day and not been limping and red eyes from the pepper spray, it takes more then 24 hours for your eyes to stop being red. And they were having sex and loving on each other. A serial killer cannot feel love or empathy of any kind. This just would not have been in his nature if he was the actual killer. I would not recommend this book
Have you ever read a book, where the writing was so good that you didn’t even care who committed the murder? Well this is one of those books.
This writer is beyond talented, It’s called gifted. This author has written an intriguing, thrilling, intense, imaginative, page turning murder mystery.
The writing style is so depth and precise, with imagery that places you front and center in a world surrounded by a brutal murder, revenge killing, serial killings, rebellious teenagers, wild parties and bitter ex’s. It’ll surely make you think twice before walking alone in the dark.
The Author skillfully twist and turns the story, while fast pitching well developed characters, one after the other and surprisingly you’re able to follow along without missing a beat.
I believe with a few minor adjustments, this one is ready for the big screen.
Wow what just happen that ending left me with my mouth open. Good read from beginning to end and I can’t wait to read book 2 to see what is really going on with this ending. No not Shawn but I guess tragedy and a broken home and broken parents can do strange things to people. Good job Author E.Raye Turonek.
Compelled to Murder by E. Raye Turonek is a well written murder mystery that had me gasping with shock and awe throughout. Turonek has a way with words and captivated my attention until the very last page. I can’t say enough good things about this book. If you’re looking for a murder thriller that is enjoyable, gripping and not predictable then Compelled to Murder is that book for you. This is my first time reading this authors work but it won’t be my last!!
My first time reading this authors book and I must say this was really good. Very well written, great storyline and the character development was great. This book will definitely have your attention from the very beginning. The suspense will keep you on edge of this who done it mystery and the lengths some people will go to when compelled to murder. E. Raye Turonek has just gained a new fan and reader. I highly recommend this edge of your seat suspense read. Can't wait for what's next to come.
This novel reads like a Lifetime movie. A good one. The transitions between different scenes worked for the good (and slight bad) of the book. There were many interesting scenes, but the numerous introduction of characters made it a bit difficult to remember who was who. I was expecting some twists. And I got them. Definitely a page turner. This book paints a vivid picture of every scene. I really felt like I was watching a movie, a scary one at that. The author plants all of the characters skillfully, like chess pieces on a board.
The book had some mistakes though. As an fellow author, those things jump out at me. But it wasn't enough to ruin the effect.
I say check this out. The surprise ending will leave you gasping.
Well done thriller full of suspense and intrigue. The author definitely has a talent to write in this genre. Great detail which was very visual. I honestly was disturbed by the brutality of the victims but the clever storyline got me past that and put my focus on the ‘who dunnit’ in this story. I was truly flabbergasted as things began to unfold. Had me all in my feelings.
What an ending.... or shall I say the beginning of getting to the full truth. I cannot believe Shawn is a cold blooded killer; is it because of how the kids treated his girlfriend. So many questions I need answers to, patiently waiting for the next part. E. Raye Turonek, you deserve five stars for this page turner.
This was the first book that I’ve read by this author and I tell you, it had me all over the place. I’m still not sure why Sam and her mother was killed, but the man that killed them was a complete psycho. Shawn was quite the psycho also and it’s amazing how he set Mr. Schwartz up for the murders of his wife and the students. I really wasn’t expecting that. I need more.
If you’re looking for a good murder mystery you’ll want to pick up Compelled to Murder. This book held my attention through the end. The author sucked me in with the unexplainable murder but, the twist at the end was definitely the icing on the cake.
I'm floored how good this book was!! It's a mystery \thriller, lots of dead bodies, lots of blood.. Who done it?? Very well written, highly entertaining.. I recommend this book to everyone who is into mystery and thriller books!! I now have another favorite author!!
This was a pretty good read, although I already figured out most of it 1/2 way through, I feel like there were still some loose ends in the end. Otherwise, the writing was well done, vivid, and the villains were as creepy as I suppose they were intended to be.
