I really loved the first story told from Ed's perspective, but the main story had a bit too much drama and.. I think it wasn't necessary, really. I get why there was this sequel, the first two books were superpopular and it was great to see the characters again but tbh it might have been better if Ed and Rei had been the side characters and for example Gil had had center stage. Still, it wasn't bad. Just not quite what I had hoped for, I guess, although the ending made up for a lot. And the art was just gorgeous.

"それならやっぱり、愛さえあれば大丈夫なのだ..." "as long as you have love, everything will be alright..."

that quote pretty much is THE SLOGAN for this entire series. for rei, he is filled with love. he wants to love and be loved. REI IS NOTHING BUT LOVE? HELLO? from the very first book, he is taught from a young age that if you love, and continue on doing so, that love will eventually be conveyed to the person. it hurts, it's painful, it's lonely, loving someone when the love is only one-sided. but rei believed that someday, somehow, that love will be returned. and in the second book, he realizes that everyone shows love in a different way. it may not be obvious, it may not be to the same extent, but it's there. and so rei believed that all he needed was love, and that love will be able to surpass any trials and hurdles that life throws his way. that belief transferred over to the third book, but this time - rei experiences the reality of loving someone, being loved back, and the pain and sacrifices that comes with it.

book 1 was all about being alone, and experiencing a painful, isolated unrequited love. book 2 was about getting rid of the ignorance, overcoming the pain and isolation, and trying to change oneself for the better. for me, book 3 was about realizing what love really is in terms of reality, and the sacrifices that love requires for both people. now that i'm thinking back, it's actually kind of amazing to see the transition and changes in attitude and behavior of both rei and edward in the past 13 years that book 1-3 took place.

book 3 is divided into 3 parts + a special extra story in the ebook edition. the 1st part is in ed's pov, and it's about 70 pgs long. i actually wished misao wrote more (lol more than 70 pgs? uh, YEAH!) in ed's pov. but this really helped me understand him more as a person. i liked how i got to read about how he interacts with people at work (how he would frequent each floor everyday and test the employees on their aptitude and desire to work, and interact with them, instead of being "that CEO that's always hauled up in his office"). I LOVED THE FLASHBACK TO WHEN HE WAS 14 AND HE SPENT CHRISTMAS WITH 12 YEAR OLD REI. OH LAWD. HELP ME... THINKING ABOUT LONELY REI AND THAT CHRISTMAS CARD. HELP. HEEEELP. and his conversation with gilbert...... THE FLASHBACK WITH ORLANDO. i mean, basically ALL THE FLASHBACKS. (i almost whimpered like a baby reading about how he bought a plane ticket and wanted to see rei while he was in college but then turned back around in agony, JUST LIKE REI IN BOOK 2!! FEEEEELS!) and then the little "drama" towards the end. yeah. part 1 was really good imo.

part two IS IN JONAS'S POV!!! i mean, i was surprised but hella happy because hello, i reeeally love this guy. i wished misao wrote more about when he was in school with ed, but seeing as it was only about 14 pages, i took what i could and rolled with it. part 2 was noice for what it's worth.

part 3 is the main story, in rei's pov, and it's about 260 pages long. this is where the reeeeal drama starts. new characters such as hughes bright, daemon hedges, and ed's secretary, rhodri (since i'm assuming the romanji for ロードリ is that. at first i thought it was roderick but i was like, waaait...), as well as ed's asshole uncle, charles, make their debut in this volume. i don't want to go too much into the story since i can go on forever (but at the same time, i don't even know where to start). there's really so much to say.... but i really enjoyed it. and i definitely appreciated what the new characters were able to add to the story, and i hope to see more of them in book 4.

wait, did you know? THERE'S GOING TO BE A BOOK 4!! misao shared the news on her twitter! daemon better show his face again!!

part 4 of this volume is only in the ebook edition, and it's a 13-pg bonus story of ed's and rei's valentine that year. IT WAS REALLY, REEEEEEEEALLY CUTE. RIDIC CUTE. I WAS SQUEALING LIKE CRAZY. ed is such a romantic, jeezus.

i was surprised at the amount of STUFF misao was able to fit in this book. so much was happening, but at the same time, i wasn't overwhelmed. the pacing was good, it didn't drag on, and i sure as hell wasn't bored. I ONLY WISHED misao explained how the heck ed was able to restrain himself FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR AWAY FROM REI while he was working in the japan branch back in book 2. like...... A YEAR? SRSLY? and i wished there was more of ed's pov of when he was in high school. because even though one part of me understands his... feelings and emotional turmoil while he was being a ridic af asshole to rei in book 1, another part of me just wants closure and to read in his own pov about what the heck was going on in his mind at that time. he touched upon it in book 2, and again in book 3, but still. i was hoping misao would go more in depth with that part of ed in this book.

i didn't give it a 5/5 even though i really wanted to. some parts (not even, maybe like 1-2) were cliche or a bit too much. and some of the english words misao choose to use were a little... eeeh to me... (fanny, LOL). and again, she could have wrote more about ed's past in his pov so the readers could have an even better idea of how and why ed fell in love with rei, and the contrary actions he displayed prior to officially going after him.

BUT OVERALL. I DEFINITELY SEE MYSELF RE-READING THIS AGAIN. AND AGAIN. I LOVE REI. I LOVE ED. I LOVE THE TRIO, ORLANDO, JONAS, AND GIL. I LOVE THE NEW CHARACTERS, DAEMON, HUGHES, AND RHODRI. AND I HOOOPE THAT MISAO WRITES IN THE POV OF SOMEONE NOT REI OR ED IN BOOK 4. PREFERABLY ORLANDO OR JONAS. OR EVEN GIL. OR ALL THREE :D

until book 4, whenever that may be!
