The huge amount of research into psychology that must have been carried out by the author H.A. Leuschel whilst writing "Manipulated Lives" is truly impressive.
This book is made up of a superb collection of 5 short novellas depicting manipulators and the manipulated, highlighting to what extent abusive manipulation can distort and threaten lives. The 5 stories are - The Narcissist, Tess and Tattoos, The Spell, Runaway Girl and My Perfect Child. My favourite being Tess and Tattoos which I thought

I read this book ages ago. I can’t find my original review which is odd.

This book consists of 5 stories with the theme Manipulation running through it.

I think Tess and Tattoos was my favourite.
However they all tell a very good story with great realistic people in them. Very believable.

narcissistic Tendencies is something I’ve come across in many books I’ve read, but for some reason the short stories impacted a punch.

I wrote this book, so I know that my rating isn't relevant to readers, but for what it's worth I would like to say that it came from a place of deep affection for every victim of abuse. I put pieces of my heart in these five novellas and hope you find the answers to two frequently asked questions below useful.

Why did you write Manipulated Lives?

I decided to write the book, after witnessing first-hand the psychological damage that a narcissistic manipulator did to a close relative. Most manipula

I’ve always been fascinated by psychology and the idea behind this collection of short stories was really intriguing to me. It consists of five short stories that all center around the theme of manipulation. This form of abuse is frightening as it is so easy for people to fall under the spell of someone who wants to use them and take advantage of their vulnerabilities.

All of the stories were interesting in their own way and I enjoyed reading

I absolutely loved this book and how each of the five stories brought a unique group of characters and a steady paced plot to keep you hooked from start to finish. I’m going to be honest, I devoured this whole book in one night and stayed up all night with it! #WorthIt!

This is the first collection of novellas that I've read in all my years of book-worming. I've always preferred to read one longer story, to acclimatise myself to the writing style and characters. Taking the time to find that pull you get when immersed into an authors world. The connection, that moment when you know that you're hooked. It's something that can't be rushed, I love the savouring feeling of meeting a new set of characters, and being a fly on the wall, whatever the sc

MANIPULATED LIVES is a collection of five short stories or novellas of people who have either been manipulated or have manipulated others. The way H A Leuschel takes her time revealing the manipulation in each story and the emotions she pulls out of her readers is just amazing. With each story, I was instantly hooked and all up in the characters lives and mind set. I love when an author can do that to me. Even though these are short stories, the a

Manipulated Lives is a collection of five short stories. Each story centres around a manipulator and the long-lasting, devastating effects on their victims, with a deep interest of the psychology of these people at the core.

As soon as I began the first story, “The Narcissist”, I knew this was going to be an extremely thought-provoking read. The idea that a manipulator – a person who can force their victim to do things they don’t want to do, believe things that aren’t true, become a shell of thei
In this collection of compelling short stories, the author puts the reader inside the minds of five people who have either suffered psychological manipulation at the hands of another or been responsible for it. The book persuasively illustrates that anyone - young or old, male or female - can fall prey to manipulation. For instance, in the story ‘Tess and Tattoos’, we meet Tess, a charming, kind old lady, who was unlucky enough to form a relationship with someone who abused her physically and ps ...more

I am going to start this review off with something that’s niggling on my mind. This collection of 5 stories around manipulation offers a truly captivating, yet emotionally exhausting read and even though a quick internet search tells me that men are more likely to have narcissistic tendencies than women, I would have loved to have more of a balance in the book. Out of the 5 stories, only one of them had a female narcissisistic pervert, (view spoiler) ...more

Manipulated Lives is a fascinating collection of five powerful and thought provoking character led stories which delve into the lives and minds of those well-developed characters.

Each story is longer than what I’d normally define as a short story. I’d say they are more short novellas, so they were long enough for me to get properly into and become emotionally involved in what was happening to the characters and care about them.

While each story is very different, the similarities are the focus on

Having previously read Leuschel's stand-alone novella, My Sweet Friend, I was keen to experience more work from this author and delighted to get a copy of Manipulated Lives. The five stories in this collection explore narcissistic personalities from the points of view of these people's victims, the narcissists themselves and, in my favourite story, My Perfect Child, in the words of a mother who blames herself for her son's abusive behaviour.

Manipulated Lives is not a book I’d normally read, however I was approached by the author to read her book, and it sounded interesting enough that I decided to take her up on her offer. Manipulated Lives is comprised of 5 short stories that touch on the nature of unhealthy relationships, particularly relationships with narcissists.

Each of the stories were completely separate from one another and had their own plot, but had similar overarching themes. While I wouldn’t classify any of the stories

The stories read individually like a collection of novellas. Each one is unique, but at their core is the psychological impact that makes its presence felt. Each story drew me in quickly and held my attention. I soon saw a pattern emerging with each one, what I thought was happening a

Manipulated Lives is a collection of five Novellas with each one telling a story of Manipulation.Tess and tattoos, The Spell, Runaway girl, The Narcissist and My perfect child Each story brings something different and paints a picture of an emotional realistic journey for each of the characters. Which unfortunately happens in real life and seems to be a subject that people shy away from. Eye opening…

Reading this collection of five short stories about victim’s of narcissists and manipulators felt like watching a documentary. Each of these stories show us a different person and how they dealt with their lives being turned upside down, but in every single one of them I found something I could relate to.

Manipulators are so incredibly good at making others feel like they are the ones in the wrong. H.A. Leuschel captured those inner nagging feelings so well, that I recognized myself i

I often find that writing reviews for titles I do not normally tend to read can be challenging. I have already stepped outside of my normal boundaries, and now I have to adjust my assessment and thoughts accordingly. It can often take a day or two to fully digest and process the experience. Why? Because I am approaching something new and foreign. This means I have began without any preconceived expectations. This is quite an unusual book consisting of 5 short stories, all very different but having one common factor. All the stories are about a manipulator, from seeing the picture through the eyes of a manipulator to being a victim.  I think that every person has at some point manipulated another person to get something they want and of course being manipulated themselves but this is about control, there is no bargaining or reasoning. It isn't about even getting their own way in a situation, it is ab ...more

The author approached me to review her book and I accepted. This book consists of five short stories. All have one narcissistic character abusing each protagonist. When I saw the cover with the image of a distraught young woman, I was afraid I had a YA book that often contains poor writing. I had been looking forward to reading this book as soon as it came up on tour. Manipulated Lives is a fascinating collection of 5 novellas that delve deeply into the psychology of how manipulation can really ruin lives.

I’m not sure what my favorite story was. Possibly Tattoos, but honestly, each story was unique and thought provoking. H.A. Leuschel clearly did massive amounts of research into psychology because this felt very real. I could feel the passion and the interesting connections through
