About the author

Aldo Carl Leopold was an academic and plant physiologist. He received his bachelor's degree in botany from the University of Wisconsin, and an MS and PhD in plant physiology from Harvard University. He taught at Purdue University and the University of Nebraska before joining the research staff at Boyce Thompson Institute for Plant Research in Ithaca, New York. Some of his research on soybeans was later used in the development of inhalable insulin.

He was the son of ecologist and author Aldo Leopold and the brother of zoologist, conservationist and author A. Starker Leopold.
