Pulse Effex #2
Resilience
Now that an EMP has sent the United States into a seeming Dark Age, society has fallen apart at the seams. Andrea, Lexie and Sarah must survive despite the loss of technology, electricity, and worse, the threats of marauders and lawless opportunists. The appearance of FEMA camps might be reassuring except that the military seem determined to force civilians to enter them. Is the US government also a threat?
Those who've survived the first months since the PULSE are either nearing the end of their resources, their wits, or their endurance. Only the few with enough RESILIENCE in heart or mind can continue to live without succumbing to the lure of the government camps or other dangers.
Andrea and her family have the Martins and a growing community of survivors to help them get by.
Lexie longs for the day when she and Blake can get married and have a family. That is, if they live long enough.
Sarah and Richard hope to reach Aunt Susan's in Indiana; but what must they become to get there alive? And what will they find when they do?
Can the US recover from the loss of technology before everyone and everything is destroyed?

I loved the first book in the Pulse Effex series and was expecting the same of Resilience. I found it slower moving as people live following the EMP even though there were some tense moments. You would definitely need to read the entire series to understand the story. I am hopeful that book three will be more satisfying. I received a free e-book from the author. This is my honest opinion.

I can barely take the time to write this review because I am so invested in finding out what happens in the NEXT book. I have it cued up and ready to go on my kindle!!! I'm not a super religious person by any stretch of the imagination, but I love seeing some of these characters finding God during such a terrible time.

Powerful Eye opening read. Review to follow!

I read the first one about 3 years ago and finally pick this one up. I really like how it starts off action packed with a tornado of all things, loved it. Reading some of the reviews I thought there would be a lot more action but it was action then teenage drama then action then teenage drama. I guess I was expecting something a little different i got frustrated with some folks from the compound go missing and no one going to look for them I know that they were probably worried about being attacked but i just wanted these people to do more like finding out about what is truly going on. I don't believe if our country was being attacked we couldn't attack back especially if it was middle eastern people, i don't think they have that kind of power or force to where our country/military couldn't fight back even given a EMP pulse. (Just my little beef about some details, i can suspend belief because it is fiction but lets be realistic, post apocalyptic fiction is supposed to feel somewhat real.)
And having had a 3 year gap from reading the first book i didn't know if Sarah was a knew character or was she introduced at some point in the first book, but i liked her character until she got annoying. Overall not a bad 2nd book, i do plan on reading the third one because i hope it answers questions left unanswered and i am curious how it is wrapped up.

So good! You have to read it!
The story gets even better! You just don't want to stop reading. Great characters that you easily relate to and the author does such a great job of weaving in scripture just at the right time. Starting the next book right away

Resilience (book two) is a continuation where Pulse (book one) left off. So if you haven’t picked up Pulse, you’ll want to read that one first. You won’t be disappointed. Book one started with an EMP (electromagnetic pulse) affecting most of the United States causing everything to come to a grinding halt. The books follow three teen-aged friends as they deal with a world without electricity, phone, etc.
Andrea and Lexie live on a compound (former family farm) and instead of going to school, they tote guns and help to keep marauders from invading. Sarah is traveling cross country with her brother with hopes of making it to their aunt’s place and finding safety.
There are rumors of FEMA camps set up and helping individuals, but it isn’t clear whether or not they are run by the United States military or could there be raiders from another country? In a world turned upside down, the teens must find a way to stay alive.
This book was just as riveting as the first one. While I’m usually a historical romance reader, I’m finding dystopian novels to be a fun read too, especially these two books by L. R. Burkard. She does an exceptional job at portraying a word gone awry and what happens. Pick up a copy. You won’t regret it.

Compelling!
She did it again....got me caught up in such a fantastic story and then BAM left me wanting more. I have come to care a great deal for the main characters, Sarah, Lexie and Andrea. These three girls and their families have stolen a piece of my heart and Linore keeps writing in a way that keeps tugging at my heart. What would you do if your life was suddenly turned upside-down by a PULSE? Would you survive or would you perish? Preparation is the key to survival in a land that has lost virtually everything. This book was so frightening good! Like the first book, it scared me some, knowing that an EMP could really happen. Linore paints a very detailed and realistic picture of “what could be”.
So, even though this is fiction, it is based on a threat that could actually happen.....are you prepared? I applaud Linore Burkard for yet another fascinating story and I ask that she hurry up and write the next book in this series.
I was allowed to read this book in return for my honest opinion. I was under no obligation to give a positive review.

ARC from the Author for a review.
Young Adult Christian Dystopia
This second book is following up on events 4 months after the EMP catastrophe.
Again, this is the POV of Lexi, Sarah and Andrea.
There is so much happening that I don't know where to begin. I realize that these girls are only 16 and all that they have known is gone. I found myself getting frustrated with Lexi and Andrea. They are starting to get stir crazy and they don't really, prayerfully, think things through before they act/speak. They are being tested.
Sarah's POV was the best part of this book. She is also being tested but is in far more dangerous situations. She has become a better, stronger young lady. I kept thinking that Lexi and Andrea wouldn't survive so well without the food, shelter and protection that they have.
This is going in an interesting direction. I look forward to reading the outcome in the next book.

An action packed continuation to the first story Pulse. The country is in trouble and the story delves in the problems trying to fix it. Will it happen on time. Great writing by an amazing author.

I am really enjoying this series. It has really brought to light a lot of things that could happen to us if a solar flare were to happen. I have never given these types of things any thought but it would be absolutely terrifying to experience if our world changed the way it did for the families in this series. As a society, I do agree that we are too tied to our electronics but the thought of running out of food and fuel is the scary part.
I cannot wait for the next book to come out.
I received a free advanced copy of this book for my honest review.

The series is getting better! I thoroughly enjoyed this book as challenges were faced with courage and determination.
The largest question that it raises for me is how a Christian with preparation responds to tragedy.
The moral dilemma of killing someone who is suffering from hunger and who wants what you have is worth contemplating. Of course, none of us knows what we would do until we are placed in that position, and this book gives some insight into this difficult situation.
Once I began reading this book, I couldn't put it down, so I highly recommend it.

April 11, 2017If you have not read Pulse, the first book in this series, you should read it first and probably should not read the rest of this review as it may be a spoiler for the first book. The number of survivors following the electromagnetic pulse that has affected all electronics in the United States has rapidly dwindled, at least in Ohio where the story is set. Between extremely cold weather, starvation, illness, and the sheer evil of some of the population who are willing to kill anyone standing in their way, only the best prepared and healthiest have survived the first four months following the EMP. Lexie’s family are preppers and were ready for just such an occurrence as this. Neither Andrea’s nor Sarah’s families were prepared. As the story resumes, Lexie’s family has taken in several other families who have specific skills and a compound has been organized with their home as the focal point. Andrea, her siblings, and her mother were safely brought there although her father was killed when their group was attacked on the way. Sarah and her brother Richard, after the death of their cousin and then their mother, have decided to go to Indiana to the home of their aunt in hopes they will find their father already there. So there are two story lines with Lexie, her family, and the people who have joined the compound and then Sarah and Richard hiking to Indiana. Lexie and many of the people at the compound are Christians. Without naming names, a highlight of the book is when a couple shares the Gospel message with an individual who gladly comes to saving faith in Jesus Christ. This was truly a bright spot in a book with a lot of nerve-wracking experiences in both story lines. A few in the book refer to the EMP as the Apocalypse, which I don’t see, but much of what takes place is probably not much different than what many believe the world will be like following the Apocalypse. Since I am no scholar when it comes to end times, I will not venture an opinion on the matter. The book is interesting and kept my attention. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.

4.5 stars
This was such a fast-paced, enthralling read! Each chapter is just brief enough you find yourself deciding over and over again that you can fit in 'just one more'; and the action is so non-stop that your 'one more' quickly becomes 12-15!! I'm so enjoying this cast of characters. Each of the girls has a distinct voice and style that makes the entire journey diverse and unique. I truly feel involved in their lives, as if I've hunkered down with them, entrenched in this new way of life, and to finish the series will feel like life has gone back to the old normal and everyone needs to go home. I'll miss these people and their contagious spirit of resilience! Can't wait for Book 3!

I really love this series of books. They are suspenseful, emotional, spiritual, and fun! The three teens featured in this story are Andrea, Lexie, and Sarah. This is their lives after an EMP disaster. Everything technological is lost, so therefore, the whole country's systems have come down. There are desperate people out to steal what others have, and they will stop at nothing to get it. It's quite nerve-wracking sometimes. As we get to know these people and those they love, it seems the stakes become higher and higher. They have to learn to defend themselves and do a lot of hard work to survive. And, of course, key in this series is faith, and as the girls grow, they learn to rely on prayer and promptings of inner knowing as they are guided in the right steps to take. You can't help but be glad they have God to back them up. It's the best way to live. I love this set of books, and highly recommend them. I think you can't find a better example of this type of disaster and survival that goes on in this story.
