I'm a big fan of paranormal romance, particularly anything involving an Angels theme, and I'm really enjoying The Touched Saga so far. I cannot wait to read the third installment, especially after that shocking ending in Unfaithful.
The Mark of Fate is a short story which offers some insight into Evan's backstory. While it's a decent addition to the series, I can't say that I was particularly blown away by it, and I felt it could have added more value if it had been fleshed out a bit.
We learn about Evan's unsettled family background, witness his protective side when he chases a robber and retrieves a young lady's possessions, and watch him deflect the many females who express interest in him. My favorite part was the dream sequence where he dreams of Jamie.
There's a mystery lady, the sudden appearance of the mark of fate and his destiny is sealed. This book was tipping along nicely until the last part where I became very confused. I didn't actually realize that he had died and was on a new path. I'm left with some questions (like who is the woman, how did Evan die, and why? Why was he chosen for this life??) and concerned that I may never get answers to them, but I guess I'll have to wait to read the next two books to see if they are explored. It seems doubtful, but one can hope!
If you are a fan of this series then you will most likely enjoy this quick read.

Dopo il prequel Il riflesso del destino, Elisa S. Amore ci delizia con un altro spin-off, un racconto breve che ci mostra la vita di Evan prima di Gemma, degli Angeli della Morte e delle Streghe, dei Sotterranei e dei loro doveri. E mi sembra anche giusto, no?, fare una capatina nella Londra del 1720 per bussare alla porta del bel Evan William James diciassettenne, vivo come in Touched non poteva dirsi. Ma in questa dolce e malinconica novella, la vita di William non è così spensierata come dovrebbe esserlo. La sua famiglia soffre la bancarotta a causa dei debiti di gioco del padre, un uomo che Will disprezza come non mai per il dolore che provoca nella madre, cui è molto legato. La sua indifferenza nei confronti dei sentimenti della donna porta spesso William ad accanirsi contro di lui, arrabbiato non solo per quel suo comportamento arrogante e menefreghista, ma anche implicitamente per averlo costretto a crescere, a diventare uomo, quando ancora avrebbe dovuto pensare agli impicci della sua giovane età. Come per esempio salvare il medaglione di una splendida fanciulla dalle fauci di un ladruncolo tredicenne in combutta con i malviventi della città. Questo gesto cavalleresco gli varrà un invito a palazzo da parte della bella Lady Venetia, e spinto dagli amici Will accetterà il suo invito.
Chiamarlo William, e non Evan, al'inizio non mi veniva naturale -come se stessi parlando si un'altra persona. Poi mi sono resa conto che, in un certo senso, era davvero così. Il ragazzo che ho imparato a conoscere grazie alla sua meravigliosa storia d'amore con Gemma è un ragazzo responsabile, dolce, affascinante e malizioso da far perdere la testa, ma anche tormentato dal ruolo che fino a quel momento aveva vestito con sicurezza implacabile. Costantemente alla ricerca del brivido, sicuro del suo ruolo, rimane totalmente ammaliato, spiazzato dall'entrata di Gemma nella sua vita.
I tratti comuni con William sono sicuramente il suo senso del dovere, specie nei confronti della madre e della famiglia, il fascino innegabile e il tormento che gli si può leggere in volto al pensiero di quel padre che odia e con cui non vuole essere paragonato. Ma è un ragazzo che, pur maturo per la sua età, non è ancora stato baciato dalla tentazione, quella vera, a volte insidiosa e oscura, altre emozionante e travolgente. E' sveglio, ironico, amorevole, a volte taciturno e immerso nel suo album da disegno, ma non ha ancora idea della piega che prenderà la sua vita. E nemmeno che ciò ha a che fare con lo strano sogno della donna che risveglia ogni sua terminazione nervosa.
Già dai titoli capiamo quanto il destino giochi un ruolo fondamentale nella storia, tanto da antagonista quanto da elemento di fortuna. Gemma ed Evan s'incontrano proprio per questo, poiché lui ha il compito di organizzare il momento della sua morte e trasportarne l'anima nell'Eden. C'è tanto di romantico e nefasto in questo semplice fatto, perché il destino li fa incontrare solo per rendere inevitabilmente dolorosa la loro separazione. Ma cosa accadeva anni prima che quest'incontro si verificasse? La risposta l'abbiamo letta nel primo racconto, e quella che troviamo qui è solo una conferma: erano destinati già da allora, perché i loro cuori non erano mai stati toccati in quel modo da nessuno'altro. E quanto può essere struggente, romantico e delizioso un amore del genere? Capirlo, attraverso quei sogni inquieti e vividi che hanno imprigionato Will nei reconditi angoli dei suoi desideri e delle sue paure, così come me nella lettura, mi ha stampato in faccia un'espressione mestamente soddisfatta, perché se c'è una cosa che mi piace davvero tanto di questi romanzi è il modo in cui tutto sembra scritto, predestinato, già segnato, implacabile, e soltanto al momento giusto sarà possibile cambiare le carte in tavola.

Anche in questo breve prequel, Elisa riesce ad incantare il lettore, trascinandolo addirittura in una Londra lontana, insieme ad un Evan che già avverte qualcosa di particolare lungo il suo cammino di vita. Seppur breve, questo racconto è in grado di donare emozioni che non se ne andranno dal cuore molto facilmente! Complimenti all'Autrice!!!

In tre giorni ho concluso anche questa novella e come sempre capire meglio un personaggio aiuta sempre il lettore nella vera lettura, il fatto che Evan sognasse sia la Strega di cui non ricordo il nome, in quanto è passato molto tempo da quando lessi la quadrilogia di Touched Saga, che Gemma fa capire molto della loro unione. Evan è sempre stato un gentiluomo dai modi garbati quale si conviene da uno dell’epoca del Settecento, mi ha fatto ridere come interagisse con i suoi amici, certo non è alla stessa altezza di Drake e Simon peró i guai da giovani si fanno eccome 😂. Un po’ mi è dispiaciuto che non è riuscito ad andare al ballo di Venetia, ma vedere come nasce da Giustiziere della Morte è qualcosa di stupefacente. Avrei voluto che queste novelle che ho letto uscissero prima di tutto i libri o quanto meno le avrei letto quando li stavo leggendo

Evan è un ragazzo che sembra irresistibile agli occhi di qualsiasi ragazza, ma lui è alla ricerca di una in particolare. Anche se ancora non sa chi sia.
Nella parte centrale del racconto, aiuta una ragazza a recuperare quanto gli è appena stato rubato. Quello che però appare più importante non sono questi eventi, ma gli strani sogni di Evan.
In definitiva, non succede molto in questo racconto, ma la storia prende: mi ha lasciato con il fiato sospeso e la curiosità di scoprire cosa è successo al ragazzo.
Stupida io che l'ho preso senza informarmi prima. Se avessi saputo che si trattava di un capitolo posto a metà tra due romanzi di una saga, avrei aspettato a leggerlo. Diciamo che però ha raggiunto il suo scopo perché queste poche pagine mi hanno invogliato a leggere l'intera saga.
Ottima mossa di marketing, che però non avrebbe funzionato se l'autrice non fosse così brava.

Bellissimo leggere la Londra del 1700. Bellissimo immaginare un cosi giovane Evan, povero e con una famiglia a pezzi. Evan dipinge..Evan suona il violino. Evan sogna e dipinge la donna della sua vita. Evan che ama sua madre, e odia suo padre.Evan coraggioso ed altruista. Al destino io ci credo... e anche se l'incontro con la strega gli stravolgerà la vita, anche lui sa che presto il destino diverrà realtà. Un bellissimo prequel, Elisa come sempre incanta con il suo inchiostro... e ci regala un pezzetto del passato travagliato di Evan William James.

Bello ma la parte finale è troppo veloce a mio parere. Ho preferito la parte iniziale con Evan e i suoi amici. Però il fatto che ci siano altri 2 romanzi mi fa ben sperare che magari ci sarà una qualche spiegazione e/o qualche altra scena del passato di Evan e del suo rapporto con il padre, la madre e i suoi amici :)

I absolutely loved this look into Evan's history. It definitely helped to understand Evan and why he thinks the way he does and reacts the way he does in The Touched Saga. It helps to give him more substance as a character and made me feel for him because of his past. So happy the author gave us this look into him. Great short read!

This entire series leaves you wanting more. It is well written and I promise you won't be able to put it down. You might plan for a weekend of seclusion, because you won't get anything done until you've read through the entire series!

I finally got to read "The Mark of Fate" yesterday...***SPOILER ALERT***
I am in awe of Evan's human characteristics, his values, his love for his mother and his hatred towards the man his father had become. I love his spirit, kindness and passion. I have developed my own theory and I imagine most have come to this conclusion as well...Evan was "haunted" by the woman that obviously "Marked" him which made him a Subterranean. Although, in his dreams of this woman even though he wanted her in an unusual way he felt it was wrong and the last dream he had when he was with this woman and he felt it wasn't right, he turned and saw Jamie..I'm guessing both Evan & Gemma have lived past lives and been in love prior to their meeting in Touched. I admire Elisa S. Amore's exceptional detail in her writing. She leaves many clues and possibilities of what may come with Gemma & Evan's story. I have a deep passion for her writing, it is poetic, haunting, beautiful, light, dark and always leaves me spellbound.

As always, I truly love how this author is able to so eloquently put to print the story to be told and The Mark of Fate is no different. This very short novella lends insight to Evan's story. I quickly devoured this short story. Yes, I have now referred to this novella as short three times in as many sentences and that is why I'm rating this book 3 1/2 Stars. In the end I found myself wondering why this information was not just incorporated into one of the full length novels. I'm sure that there is a reason and method to this esteemed author's madness and I will have to wait to discover just what that is. In the end I was left wanting more, it felt rushed at the conclusion and I know that at some point additional information will be forthcoming. Or at least I hope so.

Una novella ambientata nel 1720 che ci fa conoscere meglio Evan.
È ben scritta e permette di curiosare un pò nel retroscena di questi personaggio ma secondo me la conclusione è stata un pò troppo veloce e sbrigativa.
Non dico che sia inutile ma non credo abbia fornito informazioni indispensabili, ecco.

Una novella ambientata nel 1720 che ci fa conoscere meglio Evan.
È ben scritta e permette di curiosare un pò nel retroscena di questi personaggio ma secondo me la conclusione è stata un pò troppo veloce e sbrigativa.
Non dico che sia inutile ma non credo abbia fornito informazioni indispensabili, ecco.

This prequel is quite short and to be honest I read it after Touched to get more understanding of Evan and his past. I felt there were more questions than answers and it was a brief glimpse into his life before he became an Angel of Death. There was no clarification about his early struggles or feelings about who he had become. This book is not essential to the series and personally I would skip it all together.
