When I thinned out my bookshelves, I pulled out some that I wanted to reread before making final decisions on. This is one that I have read (multiple times, probably, but certainly at least once) in the past. My rereading attempt this year stalled out after the first three pages, when the mediocre writing and clumsy illustrations didn't make up for the heavy peppering of racist descriptions of Native Americans. Inevitable, maybe, in Westerns, or at least in ones of a certain age, but it's particularly grimace-worthy when this is supposedly a book about faith. How can you preach so much about goodness and forgiveness and all that when you're simultaneously criticizing another culture's beliefs and depicting them in dehumanizing stereotypes?

When I first started reading the book, I wasn't sure if I would be able to get into it. Partway through the book, it became obvious why the first couple of chapters were included. Those who enjoy Western stories may enjoy reading it.
