This was an “auxiliary text” for my Adolescent Development class in preparation for a high school teaching credential. One I (and most of my classmates) realized that its content wasn’t going to be explicitly address, I blew it off. So I really only read the first few chapters.
It didn’t really belong in an Adolescent Development class, though. The techniques used are classroom methodologies and management, and we’ve got a completely different class for that. It’s also similar to Curriculum & Instruction (a/k/a “Methods” at other schools) which is yet another class.
I don’t think it’s bad, but it seemed like a collection of superficial techniques used to get students engaged, which may or may not work, depending on the course subject and teacher’s style.
