Relationships are never easy, especially when everything seems to be conspiring against you. Louisa Crowder is a successful businesswoman from Chicago. When she meets Cal Frasier, a handsome rancher from Magnolia, Texas, it feels like someone's lit a match on a forest fire. The only problem: Everything seems to stand in their way. With the opinions and objections of their adult children, their totally different lifestyles, secrets from their pasts, and their completely opposite views of their faith in Jesus Christ, can Louisa and Cal fan the flames and find happiness, or are their obstacles too insurmountable to overcome?
Nice book - I love the references to.Jesus which we all need more offer. Found this book and author by accident and so glad I did! Was at a craft show in Nappanee
I always enjoy a December romance. Bring A Cowboy Home did not disappoint. Cal Fraser and Lucy Crowder are circling 60 when romantic sparks fly after their first meeting. The Texas rancher and Chicago businesswoman have lots of stuff to sort out before they can get down to the business of happily ever after. Gloria Doty debut novel is a wonderful, intriguing weekend read. Gloria’s strong female character surprised me on more than one occasion. Loved it. Lucy is independent, tough, trusts no man and carries a gun on her person at all times. Cal is dub the Marshall by Lucy—a reference to Marshal Dillon from the old Gunsmoke TV series. You probably need to be circling 60 to know the reference unless you are a fan of MeTv. Cal is every bit as noble as any of your favorite cowboy characters with a faith element mixed in. This December romance has many more layers than your typical 20 something offering. After all adult children, inheritances and grandchildren are wrapped up in the plot. Not to mention years of life experiences, not all of them pleasant. Gloria sprinkles a trail of clues as the story unfolds and ties all the surprises and dramas into a delightful conclusion. Can’t wait to read the sequel Loving a Cowboy when it is available.
This debut romance novel, by Gloria Doty, sports a new twist. Louisa Crowder is in her fifties, knows her own mind, is strong willed, and totes a Smith and Wesson 36. When she travels from Chicago to Texas and meets rancher Cal Frazier, she finds a man who may be a bit disconcerted by her personality and her views on life, but is not deterred.
Lucy considered it a running joke when her friend saw her off at the airport with “Bring a cowboy home.” She’d learned from a failed romance, to keep her heart protected. Lucy was happy in her own skin, successful career, great life and family. To her amazement, she soon discovered (as the book jacket declares) “Love can rope you in at any age.”
Lucy and Cal struggle through seemingly insurmountable obstacles of the past and differences of faith, and then defend their love from the objections of their adult children.
A comfortable and “feel good” read, Bring a Cowboy Home is a sweet and realistic story of family life and of romantic love after fifty.
In her debut novel, Author Gloria Doty creates a woman with a past who focuses on the present while trying to change her future. Louisa is a middle-aged and very successful entrepreneur who has street smarts and business know-how, but relies on her independence to see her through the storms of life. Her experience has taught her she can only trust in herself.
Yet an unexpected meeting with a real cowboy on a trip to Texas changes some of those plans. But where her new friend has allowed his faith in Providence to grow stronger amidst the raging trials of his life, Louisa’s belief in God was washed away in the downpours over the years. It takes a whirlwind of unexpected events and the prayers of her adult children to help open her eyes.
A sweet story with a strong protagonist seeking love—and finding renewed faith in the midst of her search.
A delightful story. First time I've read a book with more senior romantic leads. Although the characters in the beginning seem a bit one-dimensional, they develop a lot as the story goes. I read the book in one sitting as it "flowed" so easily. Shed a few tears in the end and was over-joyed to discover there is a follow up in the pipeline. Can't wait. I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Bring A Cowboy Home is a sweet romance about a woman who has lost a husband and divorced another. She isn't looking for love, but love finds her.
I enjoyed reading the story. It was fun. Lucy was a hoot, and I loved that she was so realistic. Hardened by life yet still able to have fun and enjoy it.
