This is Bk #14 of the Dragon Guard series and the story of scarred Dragon Guard Kellen Aherne & Olive Featherstone, the Dove shifter.
The story tells how Kellen has been scarred physically and emotionally. He still has nightmares of how he became scarred because he feels he failed the ones he was supposed to protect. Because the thinks he failed, he gave up being Commander of the Aherne Force.
Olive feels Kellen's agony & rage and tries to soothe him, but he tries to dismiss her. Olive is a kind but determined Dove, but will she be able to save him so they can have their HEA?
I loved this story, especially finding out Kellen's past to find out why he is like he is. This was an emotional roller coaster ride and has action, suspense, romance and humor. I love this whole series and every book gets better. I highly recommend this book and the whole series. Who doesn't love gorgeous and badass Dragons????

OMG, I just Loved Kellen and Olive's story, Squeal..
Intense and Heartbreaking all rolled into one book! I can't believe this is the 14th book of the Dragon Guard Series. Wow, each and everyone one of the stories have been so dam good and different, yet they all encompass family values and such.
Kellen may have scars on his body but the scars inside his mind are the ones that cripple him. It will take his dove mate Olive to calm and guide him on this journey. And what a journey it is, especially when injustices are being done to all shifters.
Fantastic Read to get lost in. The Dragon Guard men are to die for. I just adore how they treat their women.
Adult recommended 18+ YA/PRN Lovers.

Kellan O'Herne is haunted with guilt at not being able to save the lives of the innocent children he was carrying to safety when he and his force were fighting in the desert to protect a village many years ago. The bombers that attacked them left him with scars on more than just his skin and he's sworn vengeance on the man responsible.
But, now he's met his mate, Olive Featherstone, and is starting to have nightmares about what happened all those years ago.
Olive Featherstone is the daughter of the spiritual Leader of the Clan of The Light and is a dove shifter, a source of peace, harmony, tranquility, and strength. She's not willing to let her mate shy away from her because he's afraid of hurting her during one of his nightmares. She knows that she can help him by healing his inner demons, it's what dove shifters do.
But then they get information on the man responsible for the bombing of the village; Kellan knows where he is and what he's doing. They all need to go and put a stop to his evil schemes.
I would recommend this book to all those interested in fantasy, dragons, and bird shifters.

Paybacks!
Kellan has scars not only on the outside but also on the inside because of 1 man; but his mate Olive is ready to heal all of him.
Kellan & his team had been trying to protect a small desert village when they figured out that the people shooting at them were hunters. The 1 bad guy had thought that the village that they were at was a shifter village & decided to bomb it. Kellan was not only severely injured because of the silver that they used but he was heartbroken because of the little girls that he had tried to protect died.
Olive’s animal is a dove & she’s more than willing to heal Kellan’s misery by sticking to him; but, that’s not all she’s willing to do. She helps him confront the evil hunter Tariq that killed those little girls years ago.
But, so does a missing dragon who knocks Kellan & Maddox on their feet just to get Tariq into his claws.

Dragon Guard Kellen Aherne lives with the demons of the past when he could not save innocents from a great evil. He tortures himself and won't let anyone near him. That is until he meets Dove shifter Olive Featherstone who is the one that the Universe made for him. Can she convince him to let her in and can she overpower his sense of guilt and need to protect her for himself? What follows is a dramatic battle against great evil where Kellan and Olive are going to have to trust each other and work together in order to both survive.
This was a powerful story of love that in places contains explicit sexual scenes. Well written and easy to read this as addictive as the story developed.

Once again I became enthralled with the dragon shifters and FINALLY find out what was making Kellan so withdrawn and aloof. "The universe" definitely made no mistake when pairing him with the perfect mate in Olive!!! As with all her books, there's enough intrigue in the epilogue to keep your interest and wait patiently for the next adventure and pairing the universe has in the works. Congratulations to Julia Mills for another 5 star hit ...... and they just keep coming.

INTERESTING SERIES, BUT BECAME REPETITIVE AFTER A FEW BOOKS
After reading a few of these, I decided to write one review for all of them. I found these books to be pretty good, if somewhat formulaic. If a reader is looking for a good story with some drama & where the main characters go through some terrible things, but ultimately end up together, I think they will enjoy this series of books. It is sometimes nice to read a "happily ever after" story.

A female dove shifter and a male dragon shifter warrior!
A scared male dragon shifter warrior continues to have nightmares about a time he was overseas at war. A female dove shifter has found her mate, but he is keeping her at arms length. You will have to read the book to find out what all happens to everyone. Plenty of twists and turns in this story. There are some pretty gruesome things too. Happy reading!

Healing the past
Trouble always follows our guardsmen and this one is no different, his scars are on the inside as well as the outside. Olive is the dove of peace and her ability to bring that peace to her mate will be the greatest thing she can do for him. But when the opportunity to bring down the evil that caused the scars arises, everyone is all in.

Love Kellan and Olive's story so much!! I always knew the story of Kellan our scared dragon was going to be amazing and Ms. Julia did not disappoint. Love how all of the stories are connected and how we still learn bits and pieces about all the dragon guard in every story. Can't wait to read the next book!!

One of the things about the writing style of the author is the little chats the characters have in their heads with themselves, usually kicking themselves in the butt. There have been many times where I just simply had to laugh out loud, and this book was no exception.
The idea of a teaser at the end of each story setting up the next one is genius!

healing scars
Kellan has lived guilt for many years. Guilt he shouldn’t be feeling. Then he sees Olive and wants to be the man he thinks she needs. Then he gets a chance to right the wrong of the past. I'm not sure why I keep expecting these books to be better than they are. Still, they are quick ways to kill time with no big surprises or angst.
Tbese are not standalones so if you haven't started at the beginning of the series, you won't catch up by reading a later book.

Good story!
This was another well written addition to this series. I loved these characters and was happy to reach the point of the series that Kellen gets his HEA! The storyline is fast paced and really shows us how Olive is his perfect mate!

Begining is missing
I want to read about my characters meeting their mates, getting to know each other, THEN the hea. Don't start it in the middle. I don't want a book from a cliffhanger! I HATE those.

Great story!
I really enjoyed this book. Been waiting for Kell to get his book, and it didn't disappoint. His little dove is an adorable kick ass match for him.

A dragon that lives with the guilt of not being able to protect those he is charged with protecting. A dove that must calm her mate. This story was full of emotions with the guard's typical dedicated mates. This series has been fascinating. The characters are always unique and interesting. They are standalone books, but reading in order does help the reader.

We learn more about the winged warriors, these feisty young women from the Clan of the Sun. We get a better look at the Mad Dragon, Calysta, and a few others you have to read to find out about! Julia lets us see more of the back story, what makes many of the Dragons Warriors who they are. This time the Blue Thunder Clan is in the front, we see who they are and the fires they have lived through. Julia is able to take these Alpha men and Women, give them voice, write a believable story, and make it entertaining. Now you can read this book and enjoy it thoroughly but if you start from the beginning and read them in order, some of the characters and events make much more sense! For those of us who have been able to keep up, all it does is make us want to read the next one just that much more

Julia Mills puts so much heart and soul into these Dragon Guard books, it's hard to put one down when you've started it !! Olive the Dove shifter is Kellan, the severely physically and emotionally scarred dragon's mate. They know this, everyone knows this, but knowing and accepting the mate bond are two very different things, especially when the man who caused all of the pain is still out their, torturing and killing more shifters of all types. Olive does everything she can to make Kellan feel her love, her acceptance of all of who and how he is, Kelley just feels horror at the thought he might hurt her in some way as the PTSD causes the nightmares to come roaring to the front of his mind. This is one of the best books of the series so far, Julia Mills wrote it with compassion, sexual tension, heat, understanding and love. I would recommend it to any reader who loves paranormal romance, redemption, and stories that overcome severe trauma. Solid 5 ☆'s !! I do believe it can be read as a stand alone, but you will understand more of the back story and get slightly more enjoyment if you read the other books in the series, in order before it.
