Everyone at Jim Irving’s garage is gung ho about Wrench Wars, a new reality show featuring mechanics. There's something about a man who works with his hands, who's not afraid to get down and dirty.
Chandler Scott is an exceptional mechanic and an even better lover. He's been secretly sleeping with the boss's son, Mark, for two years, and even though he hates Mark's homophobic asshat of a father, he can't quit, not when Mark needs him.
Chandler doesn't like the idea of being on a reality show; he doesn't want the attention, doesn't want to live his life on camera. But the producers of the show, in cahoots with his scummy coworker, make sure he doesn't have a choice.
Mark and Chandler are so much more than friends with benefits, but Mark can't come out, not if he wants to continue living with his parents so he can pay off his college loans.
Mark's father Jim is constantly down Chandler's throat, and the producers eat that shit up with a spoon. Drama sells.
I don't typically go for established couple stories, but Mark and Chandler are so real together and so damn HOT, I didn't miss those first-time moments. For these men, every time is a first time.
When Mark suggests getting it on in the garage after hours, Chandler doesn't even hesitate. But Mark won't allow Chandler to be coerced, and the way he sticks up for Chandler, for THEM, is worthy of a standing ovation.
The ending doesn't wrap up everything in a nice package, but I still count it a HEA, because these guys are solid. They get an A in communication and an A+ in the bedroom. What else is there?

For some reason I expected The Hunger Games in car version.

He’s well aware the only motivation for Chandler being an essential requirement in the contract is that he crashes with his boss more often than not, which would lead to OTT drama and the maximization of the audience ratings.
If it depended on him, Chandler would have quitted a thousand times already. But something, or rather someone, stops him from leaving once and for all. That’s Mark, Jim’s son. Mark drags a heavy college debt and he has no prospects and no hope in returning the money by his own. That’s why he lives under his father’s roof and is still in the closet, due to Jim’s homophobic attitude.
Mark and Chandler have been friends since forever, but it had been recently when they began their friends-with-benefits relationship, no strings attached. Chandler has known for a while that Mark means much more to him, but he has never revealed himself to Mark. The ending was promising and beautiful at the same time. I wonder what the future awaits. The book finishes at 90%.

Not too shabby for a novella....and considering I haven't liked most of LA Witt's recent stuff.
The story felt pretty complete, despite this one only being around 80 pages.
We have an established "couple" - Mark and Chandler.
Yeah...I kept thinking about this guy.
Though they are nothing alike. But when I hear Chandler, that's what comes to mind. They've been friends with benefits and best friends for around 2 years.
Really the book doesn't touch all that much on the wrench war theme, which I honestly thought would be fun to read about. It's more about the garage's best mechanic, Chandler, who doesn't want to sign on to the show and Mark, the son of the garage owner who needs the show to pay off his debts.
I found this to be low on the angst and drama side - couple wise. And despite the short length I felt some chemistry between Mark and Chandler. We do get some pretty good steam too.
Overall, it was a nice, easy read. No real complaints.....but it certainly didn't knock my socks off. Definitely better then most of Witt's stuff as of late.
The book ends at 90% with a pretty solid HEA and we get a peek at book 2.....which I will definitely be reading. And hopefully we get a bit more from Mark and Chandler in that one.

3.75 stars. Last Mechanic Standing is the first of four novellas in "Wrench Wars," the new Dreamspinner Press series written by L.A. Witt and Marie Sexton. It's a quick sexy read about a reality show set in a garage, and two secret lovers - mechanic extraordinare Chandler Scott and Mark, the boss's son. "They were … well, he wasn’t even sure what they were. Friends with benefits? Fuck buddies who happened to be friends?" Mark is in the closet because he has heavy student loan debt and is currently living with his mother and homophobic jerk of a father until he can earn enough money to leave town (and the closet).
The plot is a bit thin but the novella moves along at a good clip. I liked the relationship between Chandler and Mark which started out casually and came to mean much more to both men, and of course L.A. Witt knows how to write great sex scenes (sex on the hood of a vintage car, anyone?) The ending neatly sets up the next book in the series (and includes a teaser chapter). I'm looking forward to the rest of the books in the Wrench Wars series!

I read about a recently graduated film student. Raised funds for a documentary. He cast fellow graduates and their friends. Gave them all a camera.
You'd think they had a ball networking this way. Comming up wirh some nice footage. But no! The cast banned together and took over production.
Funny thing the director lied about the first plot. They were the experimental part of the film. Not the control. Their actions show that race is a factor.
This book here reminds me of the fact. Film people are an interesting breed

2.5 stars rounded to 3 because I’m a fan of this author and the HEA was hot.
However, it didn’t work for me. It’s true I’m not a real fan of novellas, but more than that, I couldn’t find what I usually love about L.A.Witt stories, especially the out-of-the-chart sexual chemistry and banter between the MCs. And I didn’t buy the situation the MCs were thrown into :-(

This was a cute novella. The blurb pretty much spells out what is going to happen so there isn’t much suspense in terms of plot. However, it was still enjoyable to read.
Chandler worked as mechanic in Jim’s garage and had a secret friends-with-benefits deal with Jim’s son, Mark. In the midst of the pending reality show, which absolutely craved Jim and Chandler’s volatile working relationship, Chandler was coming apart at the seams from the pressure. The only good thing was his relationship with Mark. The relationship was underpinned with feelings on both sides but they were both too reluctant to reveal them to each other.
Mark and Chandler were good together. The steam was spot on and there was some obvious affection that made me root for them, even if it was not spoken out loud until the end. Mark’s father and the reality show staff were a little OTT in my opinion but served the plot well. Just suspend disbelief a little and you’ll enjoy it just fine.
I would have liked a bit more info on the overall set-up of the story. The town they were in was never mentioned by name and when they discussed another garage a couple of hours away, it was “in the town a couple hours away.” Nothing happened outside of the garage or Chandler’s apartment anyway, so I don’t see what a real place being mentioned would have hurt. I also didn’t feel like I could visualize the characters very well. Aside from hair and eye color, and I think one mention of Chandler looking all broody against a wall in the garage, I didn’t have a good grasp of what they looked like and that’s very important to me. If I can’t conjure up an image in my head, I feel like I don’t know the characters and can’t really connect to them.
Overall, this was a pleasant, quick read that was excellent to pass the time. It’s not meant to be deep or insightful -just a fun story that sets up the series nicely. There was an excerpt from the next one at the end and it looked quite appealing so I think I’ll continue with the series.

This book captured my attention soon as I'd read the blurb.
I'm a sucker of mechanics in my reading. And this is L.A. Witt, one of my auto-read MM author.
Add a gorgeous cover, then I'm sold.
As mentioned on the blurb, Chandler and Mark has been 'best friend' (with benefit) for two years.
It's just they're never really realized that it's been a long time they're fall for each other.
Jim, Mark's homophobic father is the reason. Mark is also has own reason not to coming out to his parent, i think I can understand that.
Good thing is, Chandler is a very patient man, he waits.
And then some people blackmailing him and distressed the hell out of him.
Mark can't see him like that. It destroyed him seeing Chandler is getting in the nerves everyday.
And he stand up for his lover and told his father in front of everyone, he's not going to stay in the closet anymore. Not for his father, not for money, not for his future.
It's all for Chandler , a man he's been in love with for so long.
I loved the way Chandler and mark's interaction, stealing intimacy in the middle of work, taking care of each other with their own way. Chandler let them blackmailed him just to protect Mark and Mark coming out for Chandler's sake, protected the man he loved from his father?
That's the sweetest things lovers could do, right?
At the end of the story, I'm glad they can figure it out, not too desperate about what future would bring, because, hey, Chandler wants forever with Mark. What to do next after their plan, I believe they will have their HEA somehow.
This is short, and fun. Lots of hot sex read in rainy day, just what I need.
Two mechanics, hot steamy sex, and a happy ending.
What's not to love?

Their biggest obstacle is Mark's homophobic father and the fact that Mark will definitely get kicked out and out of job (while still in deep debt of student loan) if he comes out to his family. So I believed in Chandler and Mark from the very beginning. It was clear that they felt a lot more than just friends with benefits.
The whole regarding the reality TV was a little over-the-top. But then again, reality TV shows are always wanting to have drama, so what do I know. Maybe it does happen in real life. Which is why I am NOT a fan of story-line involving reality TV *shrugs*

Quick novella with likable characters and an interesting set-up I could totally picture happening.
Not super descriptive on the smexy side of things, but enough to interest and kept the story flowing easily.
If you're looking for an established couple romance with enough heat to satisfy, this is a safe bet.

Darum geht’s:
Der talentierte Automechaniker Chandler hat überhaupt keine Lust darauf, an der Fernsehshow „Krieg der Werkstätten“ teilzunehmen. Leider versprechen sich seine Kollegen und sein Chef die finanzielle Rettung davon und machen Druck. Und auch der Sender wittert dicke Einschaltquoten, denn Chandler und sein Chef Jim liegen quasi dauernd im lautstarken Streit miteinander – perfekte Unterhaltung für’s Fernsehpublikum, allerdings auf Chandlers Kosten. Der möchte am liebsten in aller Ruhe die heimliche Beziehung mit Mark, dem Sohn des Chefs, fortsetzen.
So fand ich’s:
Zu blöd, dass Chandler eine Falle gestellt wird und er sich mit einem nächtlichen Schäferstündchen mit Mark vor laufenden Kameras erpressbar macht. Er möchte auf keinen Fall, dass Mark Ärger mit seinem Vater bekommt und seinen Job und seine Familie verliert, denn Mark hat sich vor seinem homophoben Vater bisher nicht geoutet – und hat das auch nicht vor.
Mark und Chandler sind nicht nur beste Freunde seit der Jugend, sondern seit Mark von der Uni wieder da ist, haben die beiden auch was miteinander. Eigentlich könnte alles perfekt sein, wenn da nicht der Dauerstreit von Chandler mit Marks Vater wäre, der beiden den Tag versaut, und Marks finanzielle Abhängigkeit von der sowieso schon maroden Firma. So müssen alle diese Fernsehshow durchstehen und hoffen, dass ihnen die wackelige zwischenmenschliche Konstruktion nicht um die Ohren fliegt – was natürlich doch passiert.
Diese Geschichte hat keine Romanlänge, aber das macht überhaupt nichts, denn trotzdem ist die Lovestory von Chandler und Mark ohne Hast zu Ende erzählt. Beide sind nette Jungs in einer blöden Situation und man verfolgt mit Interesse, wie sie da herauskommen und wünscht ihnen ein Happy End.
Besonders emotional war ich allerdings mit den beiden nicht verbunden und das lag vielleicht auch daran, dass ich in die Geschichte nicht wirklich gut hineinkam, weil ich die sprachliche Umsetzung als etwas holperig empfand. An etwas gestelzt wirkenden Sätzen wie „Den Blicken nach zu urteilen, die sie ihm zuwarfen, vermutete Chandler, dass sie über seine bisherige Weigerung, den Vertrag zu unterschrieben, sprachen“ oder „Jetzt haben wir wegen des Sex-Tapes ebenfalls das Schwert von Damokles für eine unbestimmte Zeit über unseren Köpfen hängen“ hab ich mich gestört und das hat meinen Lesefluss irritiert, so dass die sympathischen Chandler und Mark bei mir schon von vorneherein schlechtere Chancen hatten. Im Original hätte mir diese Geschichte bestimmt viel besser gefallen.
Deshalb kommt am Ende auch nur ein durchwachsenes Urteil dabei heraus für diese nette Geschichte, die man zwar durchaus lesen kann, die mich aber nicht komplett begeistert hat. Da es aber noch mehr „Krieg der Werkstätten“-Geschichten gibt, macht es vielleicht eine der nächsten Episoden besser, denn die Serie werde ich auf jeden Fall weiter lesen.

Deshalb kommt am Ende auch nur ein durchwachsenes Urteil dabei heraus für diese nette Geschichte, die man zwar durchaus lesen kann, die mich aber nicht komplett begeistert hat. Da es aber noch mehr „Krieg der Werkstätten“-Geschichten gibt, macht es vielleicht eine der nächsten Episoden besser, denn die Serie werde ich auf jeden Fall weiter lesen.

This book was short, like really short. If you have read the blurb then you know the story. It’s a novella, i know but still i felt like i was cheated out of a nice story with a grease covered hunk. L.A Witt always writes charged and emotional stories, so i was expecting this book to be something similar but it got over just as soon as it started. This was more of a section of a story about Mark and Chandler than an entire romance.
Mark and Chandler is having a clandestine affair behind Jim, mark’s father’s back. Mark has a huge student loan to repay and until and unless he does that, he has to stay under Jim’s roof and suffer his bad-tempered, homophobic ass. Chandler is secretly in love with Mark and despite of his inhibitions about filming the reality show: Wrench Wars, he signs the contract to be in the show to protect Mark. The reality show is sucking the life out of Chandler as well as Mark and only Mark can free Chandler out of this obligation by coming out to his father. Mark knows that he will lose a place to live and his family by coming out, so will he man up and do the right thing??? Well, u got to read this book to find out.
This was too short a book to properly love or know about both Chandler and Mark. They have been friends since they were kids. They have a casual friends with benefits arrangement which is working out great. But, Chandler is in love with Mark and he is unsure of letting his feelings out afraid of losing Mark. He does everything in this read, just to protect the man he loves.
Mark is not scared of being ostracized by his family, because he knows it is going to happen whenever he comes out. He is just biding his time before he can stand on his own two feet. I loved his courage to finally come out while freeing Chandler and also acknowledging his feelings for Chandler in one go, that too in front of the camera, no less.
I would have liked a novel based on these two characters than a novella. Both Mark and Chandler were great and i would have absolutely loved to read more about their relationship and finally love. This series is going to be a collection of novellas, about different couples somehow related to the Wrench Wars show. So, hopefully there will be more hunks in grease covered coveralls in the near future!!!

It's funny, when I first started reading the m/m genre, L.A. Witt was one of the first authors I discovered. I remember scouring Goodreads and Amazon to find her books. I read a ton of them and although I didn't love every one of them, she quickly became one of my favorite authors. Since starting my blog a couple of years ago, we've never done a tour for her, and I don't have a whole lot of time to squeeze in personal reads, so it's been a LONG time since I've read one of her books. When I saw this book I couldn't say "yes" fast enough, almost without reading the blurb! Haha And boy am I happy I did. Reading this story was like coming home. I never realized how much I missed Ms. Witt's writing. I'll definitely have to make time in the very near future for some of her books I have missed. Now on to my review!
As you can see, I really loved this book. I adored Mark and Chandler. They were the perfect couple. They fit together so well, like pieces to a puzzle. The story is well written and while it's full of angst, I was happy the angst was from outside sources and not the MC's themselves. The story flowed well and kept me riveted. I ate it up in about three or four hours, I just couldn't put it down. It made me feel. I was so angry FOR Mark and Chandler, I wanted to spit nails. Well what I really wanted to do was take the shop owner, Mark's dad, Jim, and the shows producer, Adam, by the neck and squeeze until their eyeballs popped out!! Sorry for the visual, I'm not usually a violent person, but these two men had me beyond angry. Also one of the co-workers, Tom, deserved a hard punch in the throat!
Other than making me want to commit acts of violence, this was an extremely enjoyable read, packed with angst, romance, sweetness, chemistry, hot sex, but mostly love. Love between Mark and Chandler that you could feel coming off the pages at you. The only thing I wanted was more, because when you connect with a couple as much as I did with Chandler and Mark, you always want more! Highly recommended!!

I am a big fan of L.A. Witt's very versatile and creative stories so it was a no-brainer to jump at the opportunity to read 'Last Mechanic Standing', the first book in the new series 'Wrench Wars'. I liked the concept of a reality show set in a garage, in part because my husband always loved to watch those and I've seen more than a few episodes. We always had the debate about what was real and what was fake, and those were fun discussions.
Chandler is really in a crappy place. He's the only hold-out on signing the contract for the reality show and the producers have already made it clear that if he doesn't sign then there's no show. That's a lot of pressure not just from the TV show but his co-workers and his boss, too. Oh the producers blew smoke up his rear telling Chandler it's because he's the best yadda, yadda, yadda, but he knows it's more because of the spectacular fights Chandler and his boss get in to every few days. Chandler doesn't know if he wants someone following him around all the time with a camera in his face and I didn't blame him.

Krieg der Werkstätten, schon allein der Titel, ließ mich neugierig werden auf den Serienstart von L.A. Witt. Ich wurde nicht enttäuscht.
Zur Handlung. Jim Irving will unbedingt und um jeden Preis mit seiner Werkstatt an der neuen Reality-Show teilnehmen. Alle seiner Angestellten haben schon den Vertrag mit dem Sender unterschrieben. Alle, bis auf einen. Ausgerechnet Chandler Scott, sein bester Automechaniker, weigert sich bei dem, seiner Meinung nach, Unsinn mitzumachen. Schon gar nicht für Jim, denn dieser ist ein extrem homophober Chef und Chandler ist schwul. Was Jim nicht ahnt, sein eigener Sohn Mark ist heimlich dessen Geliebter. Mark ist noch immer ungeoutet, da er finanziell von seinem Vater abhängig ist. Als sie heimlich in der Werkstatt rummachen und dabei die bereits aufgestellten Kameras vergessen, hat ein zwielichtiger Reporter endlich das Druckmittel, um Chandler zur Kooperation zu zwingen. Als er droht, das Filmmaterial Marks Vater zu zeigen, gibt dieser gezwungenermaßen nach und unterzeichnet den Vertrag für die Show. Denn für Mark würde er alles tun.
Mir hat der Serienauftakt sehr gut gefallen. Ganz besonders, als das Verhältnis von Chandler und Mark auffliegt und Mark endlich zu seinen Gefühlen steht und seinem Vater die Stirn bietet.
Ich bin schon sehr gespannt auf die nächsten Übersetzungen der Reihe.
Die Story erhält von mir 5 Sterne und eine Leseempfehlung.

Do you watch reality TV? I’m not a big a fan. What I am a fan of is reality shows in my books. And if you’ve heard me gush before, I’m a huge LA Witt fan. I can count on great men with a great story to share when it comes to anything that has her named stamped on the cover.
This time around we have the pleasure of two sexy mechanics.
Chandler is the best mechanic at the shop; which happens to be a good thing because he’s a bit of a hot head and constantly bashin’ n clashin’ with the boss man. When he’s not bucking with his homophobic boss he is bucking with his closeted son Mark, preferable without clothes on. Chandler and Mark have been friends for many years and secretly sleeping together for a couple. Chandler only tolerates the hostile work environment because of Mark. He has been slowly falling in love with Mark over the passing months, yet refuses to acknowledge it.
Mark is drowning in debt and needs a helping hand from his dad. He must suck it up and deal with all of the unpleasantries that come along with the package or risk losing the support he needs. When a network purposes a deal for a reality show, Chandler wants absolutely nothing to do with it. The money could be good and everyone else is on board. However, the network is insistent that Chandler partake in the show or they pull the offer. He is the deal breaker. When push comes to shove, somebody is bound to get hurt. The question is, how bad will the damage be?
What's to like: I always relish the authentic characters Witt brings to the table. Of course they may be polished but the grease stains are still there. Mark is not perfect. Chandler is not perfect. And I love them all the more for it. Mark yearns to come out and live his life free and proud and I felt his fear and anxiety right along with him…it felt honest. The impending wreck coming around the bend was clear and expected, but my heart still raced for him, for them. I didn’t want it to be so hard for them to be together. I believe that the best things in life are never easy but always worth it.
What's to love: Mark and Chandler have been together for years. It may be private and the intimacy has been a privilege shared only between the two of them but it is already there. We miss the actual fall between them but we are able to watch them admit, confess and declare their love for one another. Mark realizes that Chandler could have taken an easier road…but he didn’t and he is the lucky reason why. There is nothing greater than realizing someone loves you and that you can wholeheartedly return it. I loved being able to witness them recognize their love.
Beware of: A short novella that ends a smidge before it should…according to the handy reading progress percentage. I’m always a bit grumpy when things conclude before I’m anticipating it. I tend to side-eye the percentage while I’m reading and you can guarantee an exasperated huff from me when the story finishes early.
This book is for: If you’re searching for a sweet & short love acceptance between two blue-collar guys, look no further. Mark and Chandler are just want you need.

I reality show sono la nuova moda del momento e possono garantire soldi e fama.
Il meccanico Chandler lo sa bene, è consapevole che uno spettacolo ambientato nell’officina dove lavora servirebbe a regalarle visibilità, ad assicurare introiti maggiori in quest’attività in crisi da parecchio e a dare respiro a tutti i meccanici, che arrivano a stento a fine mese, con le loro semplici paghe.
Ma Chandler non vuole firmare la liberatoria per lo show, perché desidera proteggere se stesso e il segreto che condivide col figlio del capo, Mark, il suo migliore amico con benefici, che non è dichiarato e che, se suo padre lo sapesse, verrebbe cacciato all’istante, finendo sul lastrico.
Chandler e Mark hanno entrambi bisogno di lavorare all’officina e temono che le invadenti telecamere, poste ovunque, finirebbero per svelare la loro relazione al mondo intero.
Chandler combatte stoicamente tutte le pressioni che riceve per essere persuaso, fino a quando, per colpa di un passo falso, non gli resta che cedere ad un ignobile ricatto e firma il contratto per lo show. Da quel momento, la sua realtà lavorativa diventa un’agonia e Mark, che ha le mani legate come lui, può solo offrirgli sostegno morale… ma, forse, questo potrebbe non bastare.
“Meccanici alla prova” è il primo libro di una tetralogia che L.A. Witt e Marie Sexton hanno deciso di scrivere assieme, alternandosi fra loro nella stesura dei testi. Il secondo volume, che ha prodotto Marie, uscirà già il mese prossimo e non vedo l’ora!
Ma, ritornando a questo, devo dire che è stata una piacevole lettura, anche se breve.
Il libro ci offre una visione disincantata sul mondo dei reality show, dove il realismo è avvelenato da esagerazioni strumentalizzate che fanno audience, da scene decise a tavolino, da manipolazioni di vario tipo. La storia non ci risparmia il sapore agrodolce di chi è disposto a tutto, a calpestare amicizie e a ricorrere alle più infime bassezze, pur di ottenere i fantomatici ‘15 minuti di celebrità’.
In quest’ambiente tutt’altro che lusinghiero, dove peraltro non salverei nessuno dei personaggi secondari, il legame fra Chandler e Mark brilla per la sua dolcezza. Questi due uomini si amano da tempo, felici della loro monogamia che è supportata da una bellissima amicizia, ma preferiscono fingere di non provare affetti, per paura di spaventare l’altro e di rompere il loro idillio. Ci penserà la vita a porli di fronte ad una scelta drastica e a capire cosa conti davvero.
Pur nella sua breve durata, è una storia che cattura e avvince, riuscendo a trasmettere benissimo i sentimenti – positivi o negativi – dei vari personaggi. Di questo, devo ringraziare l’autrice, ma anche la resa italiana, che risulta coinvolgente e curata. Ho notato solo un paio di piccole sbavature sfuggire all’editing (come quando Mark diventa brevemente Mike), ma il risultato generale è molto buono e consiglio a tutti la lettura del libro.

February 22, 2019Gut zu lesen und trotzdem ... *Hach, ich weiß nicht wie ...*
Heute gibt es mal wieder ein Review der Marke “ich weiß nicht wie …” und ACHTUNG, es könnte etwas spoilern.
Ich weiß, dass Autoren es nicht mögen, wenn man bei einer Geschichte unter 100 Seiten schreibt, dass man viel mehr daraus hätte machen können, aber …
Hier hätte man nicht nur können, sondern machen müssen. Die beiden Protagonisten haben eine gute Chemie untereinander, die unterdrückten Gefühle, um ja nichts falsch zu machen, geben eigentlich viel Potential her.
Das Leben mit einem homophoben Vater gibt Marks Zukunft nicht viel Perspektive und scheinbar ist auch sein Mut irgendwann verloren gegangen, denn er hängt in seiner Heimatstadt fest. Warum das so ist, wie es ist, erfährt man leider nicht. Denn Studienkredite haben so viele junge Menschen, dass das nur ein schwaches Argument sein kann.
Dann wiederum geht Mark mit seiner Leidenschaft für Chandler volles Risiko und verschliesst (wissentlich?) die Augen vor möglichen Konsequenzen und und und …
Leider kann ich mich auch nicht daran erinnern, wie alt die beiden Jungs sind (ja Jungs, denn die meisten Erwachsenen würden meiner Meinung nach so nicht reagieren).
Chandler, Marks bester Freund und Bettpartner, muss lange leiden (hier hätten mir ein paar Gedanken Chandlers sicherlich ein tieferes Verständnis für die Situation geben können), bis Mark endlich anfängt seinen “Mann” zu stehen.
Seit langem bietet Chandler Jim (Marks Vater) die Stirn. Dies jedoch in einer Fernsehshow auf Kommando machen zu müssen widerspricht seinem Naturell. Wie gesagt, ein paar Gedankengänge mehr und man hätte vielleicht gewusst, was die Sache für ihn so schwierig macht.
Alles in allem fand ich die Geschichte nett, allerdings etwas schnell und oberflächlich erzählt und mit einem Ende versehen, dass mich jetzt innerhalb kurzer Zeit wieder einmal “halbgar” zurückgelassen hat. Wieder haben wir hier ein “Happy for now”-Ende, welches zwar für Chandlers zukünftiges Leben eine gute Perspektive liefert, Marks (berufliche) Zukunft lässt mich aber mit mehr als einem Fragezeichen zurück.
Allerdings gibt es auch hier bereits drei Folgebände – vielleicht erfährt man ja da nebenbei (denn in den Klappentexten dieser Bücher spielen andere Protagonisten die Hauptrolle), wie Marks Leben weiter geht und ob auch er eine rundum glückliche Zukunft vor sich hat. So wie es hier endet, ist es für mich auf jeden Fall nix.
Heute gibt es mal wieder ein Review der Marke “ich weiß nicht wie …” und ACHTUNG, es könnte etwas spoilern.
Ich weiß, dass Autoren es nicht mögen, wenn man bei einer Geschichte unter 100 Seiten schreibt, dass man viel mehr daraus hätte machen können, aber …
Hier hätte man nicht nur können, sondern machen müssen. Die beiden Protagonisten haben eine gute Chemie untereinander, die unterdrückten Gefühle, um ja nichts falsch zu machen, geben eigentlich viel Potential her.
Das Leben mit einem homophoben Vater gibt Marks Zukunft nicht viel Perspektive und scheinbar ist auch sein Mut irgendwann verloren gegangen, denn er hängt in seiner Heimatstadt fest. Warum das so ist, wie es ist, erfährt man leider nicht. Denn Studienkredite haben so viele junge Menschen, dass das nur ein schwaches Argument sein kann.
Dann wiederum geht Mark mit seiner Leidenschaft für Chandler volles Risiko und verschliesst (wissentlich?) die Augen vor möglichen Konsequenzen und und und …
Leider kann ich mich auch nicht daran erinnern, wie alt die beiden Jungs sind (ja Jungs, denn die meisten Erwachsenen würden meiner Meinung nach so nicht reagieren).
Chandler, Marks bester Freund und Bettpartner, muss lange leiden (hier hätten mir ein paar Gedanken Chandlers sicherlich ein tieferes Verständnis für die Situation geben können), bis Mark endlich anfängt seinen “Mann” zu stehen.

So.... yeah, no.
The plot was thin, not entirely believable. There was no discernible chemistry between the MCs. I just did not care about anything happening in this book. The only saving grace was that it was short, so I was able to plod through pretty quickly.

Für zwischendurch ist diese Geschichte ganz nett zu lesen, auch wenn ich die Erpressung durch den TV-Sender ziemlich an den Haaren herbeigezogen fand. Aber gut, es wurde für die Geschichte gebraucht und war dank der Kürze der Story auch schnell erledigt.
Mein Hauptaugenmerk lag ohnehin auf Matt und Chandler, die ein wirklich schönes Paar abgeben und ich wünschte, sie hätten noch viel mehr Raum gehabt, um sich zu entwickeln und vor allem, um mehr über sie zu erfahren. Potenzial wäre genug vorhanden, dank Matts homophoben Kollegen oder Nebencharaktere, wie diesem Idioten Tom (Sorry für die Wortwahl, aber er ist wirklich ein Idiot.), der meiner Meinung nach einen kräftigen Tritt in den Hintern verdient hätte. Doch dafür ist das Buch zu kurz und gerade zu dem Zeitpunkt, wo sie endlich aufhören, sich gegenseitig etwas vorzumachen und ihre Beziehung erst so richtig ins Rollen kommt, ist die Geschichte auch schon wieder zu Ende.
Das war für mich ein wenig unbefriedigend, daher gibt es auch nur 3* und dazu der Vorschlag: Einfach selbst schauen, ob es etwas für euch ist. Vorbehaltlos empfehlen will ich die Geschichte nicht, dazu ist sie mir zu oberflächlich gehalten.

Luckily my parents are NOTHING like Jim & his missus. I give kudos UP the yin/yang to his son Mike and even MORE to Chandler! I wanted to stab Jim with a wrench. (Yes, I know a wrench is a flat, semi-blunt tool, but what a great insanity defense if I tried to stab him with it, huh??) All my fantasies aside, pretty good story. So sweet how C. stayed with Mike! AND that C knew of IT before M, too! Doubt I'll read more.
