Name (in native language) : 高屋奈月

Natsuki Takaya (高屋 奈月 Takaya Natsuki, real name Naka Hatake) is the penname of a Japanese manga artist best-known for creating the series Fruits Basket. She was born on July 7, 1973; (Tanabata). Takaya is left-handed and once revealed that she wanted to be a mangaka since first grade, when her sister started drawing.

She was born in Shizuoka, Japan, but was raised in Tokyo, where she made her debut in 1992. She enjoys video games such as the Final Fantasy series or Sakura Wars, or working on her different manga series, such as Fruits Basket, which is the second best-selling shōjo manga ever in Japan, and the top selling shōjo manga in North America. Fruits Basket has also been adapted into a twenty-six-episode anime series.

In 2001, Takaya received a Kodansha Manga Award for shōjo manga for Fruits Basket.

According to Takaya (in a sidebar of a Fruits Basket manga volume), she enjoys drawing girls (girly ones) more than she does boys. Takaya also enjoys electronics and music, but dislikes talking about herself. Also revealed in a sidebar of Fruits Basket, Takaya broke her drawing arm (left) after Fruits Basket volume six was published. She had to go into surgery, and as a result, had put Fruits Basket on a brief hiatus. Takaya made a full recovery, but complains that her handwriting had gotten uglier, due to the surgery. During her hospital stay, she gained an interest in baseball.

Wow! Talk about heavy topics...I remember volume 9 making me feel pretty depressed and the tragic backstories of the Sohma family are once again in the spotlight in this tenth volume.

I pray that there will be a happy ending because if there isn’t...well, I’m just going to a buy a box of tissues and lie in my bed for a while.

It's hard to decide on a rating for this one. The characters are visibly growing up, and that's nice to see. Some aspects of the plot are coming to a resolution at last. were nicely done. Tohru's conflicted feelings as a young person who's starting to fall in love, and also not wanting to forget her lost mother, were another high point. Through these characters you see that change is painful, even when it's for the best.

On the downside, the new elements added in this volume--seem unnecessary, and in Kyo's case specifically engineered for "shock and pity" value. Like that character hasn't been tortured enough already!

I continue to not care if Akito is ever happy or not. I understand them completely, and have no sympathy whatsoever. If they hadn't permanently injured at least two of the people under their thumb, I'd be more lenient. :P

I honestly didn't remember much about these latter volumes, even though I've read them once before. I'm looking forward to re-acquainting myself with the endgame of this series.

BUF, me sigue alucinando cómo ha pasado de ser todo luz y color, a volverse drama continuo. Alucinando con la evolución de los personajes, y con todo lo que está ocurriendo: se avecina el final, y promete romperme mucho el corazón.

The story continues and story lines mentioned in previous volumes get follow-ups. Most of the previous story lines revolves around Kyoko's accident.

There has been something going on between Tohru and Kakeru and it turns out that Kakeru had told Tohru that she makes him sick because she is not the only one grieving after the accident that killed Tohru's mother Kyoko. Kakeru's girlfriend's father was driving the car that hit Kyoko and both the father and Kyoko had passed away in the accident. Kakeru had said so to Tohru to help his girlfriend that in turn tells him that she does not feel any better that Kakeru said such mean things to Tohru.

The other main story line revolving Kyoko's accident is the revelation that Kyo was there on that fateful day. He saw what was happening but felt he could not do anything to save Kyoko because he would have transformed into a cat and exposed himself and the Sohma family. In the very last chapter of this volume Kyo shares this heavy weight with Tohru - after asking her if she is in love with him - and Tohru not being able to respond right away because she is afraid that loving Kyo will erase her memories of their mother.

In this volume both Momiji and Hiro had their curses broken. It is still not clear why it happened to them and why at the moments they did. Now three members are free and Momiji had told Akito that he can no longer be at Akito's side anymore. Akito does not take this news any good...She fears to be left alone despite the promises her late father, Akira, had given her. We learn that Akito and Ren have had a terrible relationship from the start. Akira's health was declining so the Sohma family had to hurry to find a him a bride that Akira could make pregnant and have a heir to the role as god. Ren was not happy about the affection the young Zodiac members showed her once she was pregnant with Akito. She wanted the affection and love to herself. Even when Akira suggested to Ren that she should hold her daughter Akito, Ren refuses. We also learn that the box that Ren wanted Rin to take from Akito's room was supposed to contain the ashes of Akira but in the end was an empty box. Akito is losing it and still cannot take accountability for her actions. It cannot be her fault she thinks and there is a hint that she is going towards Tohru because Akito fears that the Zodiac members will leave her in favour of Tohru...

I’m not sure how I feel.

These characters have come so far (Momiji is the best boi 🥹🥹🐰). I’m somehow even more disgusted by Shigure (and I can’t stop reading). My heart was aching for Kyo and Yuki and Tohru. AND OMG KURENO

This book touched a lot of themes close to my heart. BUT there was some stuff I absolutely detested. Literally from chapter to chapter, I wanted to throw up, and then cry my eyes out, and then rip my hair out, and then cry again 😤

Too many characters, with multiple names, make it hard to keep track of who is talking and what is going on. Still love Tohru and Kyo, though. Just want more of them.

I'm really feeling sorry for Tohru and Kyo here. That's an incredible about of guilt to be carrying around. There were a bunch of random flashbacks in this one, though, which made it hard to figure out what was when. This volume also did a decent job of showing just how messed up mentally Akito is, part of that "no one is purely evil (unless you're a Sohma parent)" thing this manga's got going on. Also, was I supposed to recognize Kakeru (and Komaki) prior to the Student Council plotline?

We're getting into the really heartwrenching stuff now, guys!

I love Kakeru, you know? He's so much more than meets the eye and I just love it. Idk.

Also, my Momiji is all grown up now! It makes me sad. :( I love him....

If it weren't so late, I'd binge the rest of the series right now! Everything's coming out and I just want to take it all in right now!

Somehow i read two whole volumes in a single day and managed to not log the first before starting and finishing and logging the second. XD i just wept my entire way through this one. Oh my goodness, Momiji was breaking my heart. And Hiro… and Akito. Akito has been breaking my heart since the beginning of volume nine. Incredible development here.

Wow, that one ends on an emotional cliffhanger! We're nearing the end of the series and I can only hope that it ends on a happy note. I mean, at this point, we dserve it, right? The Sohma family deserves to be happy. Will hopefully be finishing it sometime tonight or tomorrow!
