Ridhwan Saidi is a Malaysian writer, theatre practitioner, and filmmaker known for his interdisciplinary experimentation with language and his fearless exploration of taboo subjects, with his trademark mix of ‘art berat’ and ‘art ringan’, dry humour, and esoteric discourse.
In 2011, Ridhwan penned his first novel, “Cekik,” followed by “Amerika” in the same year. Since then, he has authored “Mautopia” (2012), “Stereo Genmai” (2012), “Babyrina” (2014), and “Brazil” (2015). Each of these works delves into a wide array of themes and courageously challenges conventional storytelling. However, his examination of the darker aspects of human existence has elicited both admiration and concerns regarding its moral implications.
In addition to his association with Moka Mocha Ink, Ridhwan’s enthusiasm for theatre and the performing arts led him to establish Ensembel Teater Kaos Nol. Through this collective, he nurtures artistic talent, encourages conversations, and addresses important issues through artistic means.
“Our aim is to be open and inclusive when it comes to diverse modern art forms and traditional craft. When you have a thirst for knowledge, value historical understanding, and have a sense of humour, things will fall into place.” –Ridhwan Saidi (Moka Mocha Ink, an indie publisher, is making strides in literature and theatre circles. The Star, 20 July 2019)
Ridhwan has made contributions to the field of theatre performance through his works in Teater Modular and Teater Normcore. Teater Modular employs a system of independent modules, creating an ever-changing and interactive experience for the audience. On the other hand, Teater Normcore explores the intricacies of the creator-creation relationship in “Stereo Genmai,” delves into the roles we assume in both private and public spaces in “Masam Manis,” and examines the human condition within urban settings through productions like “Hamlet Fansuri,” “Karaoke Medea,” and “Tahun-Tahun Seorang Novelis.” “Pengalaman Prangin” (2024), is a 2 km roaming performance—incorporating walking and bicycling—that explores memory, history, and spatial sensibilities between geomorphology and built environments in George Town, Penang. His approach remains firmly rooted in unconventional and grassroots theatre.
In his film “Tiada Cinta Selama Muda” (No Love for the Young), Ridhwan blends body movements, documentary footage, and poetry, creating a peculiar audiovisual experience. He welcomes spontaneity while filming on-site and fosters a sense of collective creativity. “Air Mata di Kuala Lumpur” (Tears in Kuala Lumpur) is his second feature length film premiered in Rotterdam.
Apart from his own projects, Ridhwan actively collaborates with others and works as a dramaturg in productions such as “Tidur Lambak” (2022, Kuala Lumpur & 2025, Jakarta), an immersive performance exploring communal sleeping, and Lau Beh Chin’s “Beyond Moving with Artisans” (2021-2024), a choreography exploring fading crafts.
da lama baca, just lupa nak review je kot.. so ni just refresh je, n seb baik masih ingat jalan cerita most of the cerpen.
At first i was buying it due to the interesting title. for me Friday is often related with something good. Its when we are recommended to read Kahfi and such as sunnah. But then when I started reading it, it was to my surprise that actually this collection of cerpen are at many parts aided with bad words, and erotic scenes. So i just decided to finish what I had started keeping in mind that I would only take what is good. There are some interesting read nevertheless which actually didnt use any obscene and foul language. but overall I wont buy the second one, looking at this kind of literature. If you are looking for the moral value literature, then I would recommend look at somewhere else with different publisher.
mixed feelings for this one. this book is a sum up of all cerpen by fixi’s authors that were published on wattpad every friday. hence, thats why the name is cerpen JUMAAT. ada yang best, ada yang ooookkkkaayyy, ada yang what is this? and ada yang rasa nak hantuk kepala aku dengan kepala author tu sekali 😄😄😄 coz apa benda kau tulis ni! especially the first cerpen 🤺🤺🤺 i dont like it and lets just pretend this never happened okay? tak recommend to u guys but as a light read ? okay go on but kalau korang ada duit nak beli buku ni simpan jelah duit tu untuk kawin bye
My faves: Nasi Lemak Sambal Sotong Empat Dara (prisoners) Roti Dari Syurga Syarikat (this was good) Debu CIKDAM (kena scam) Resipi Kehidupan Cinta Di Medan Perang
My least-faves/tak faham: Mandi Sungai Kejam Ringgit Ke Neraka Meredith Undur (the motorcycle one) Tali Empat Jumaat Stew Daging (I understood it, I was just annoyed by it) Pilihan Aku, Komuter & Kereta Sapir Menanti Jumaat Awek Tudung Kereta Biru

A collection of short stories, with different genre and approach. Few stories for me are a bit cliche, if you're talking about Friday, one thing people always come up with is the paranormal thing. Why is that, anyway?
My favorite: Meredith by Neesa Jamal.
I recommend this book if you're looking for a light reading on Friday night, after a long hectic week.
bagi aku x semua enak dibaca. ada yang plotwist. Ada yang punchline x sampai. Not bad la kalau nak ringan ringan kan kepala boleh baca buku ni. Best stories ; Meredith, Syarikat, Ringgit ke Syurga
