This book looks at the reasons why people left the region now known as the Czech Republic, how they arrived in the U.S., where they first settled, and how many finally settled in the west.
The reader will also come to understand why they settled in Nebraska, Iowa, and Texas. How they had to relearn how to farm in an environment that was different from the homeland, their difficulties, and their successes.
If the reader is interested in finding out more about their own family's Czech heritage, Korytova-Magstadt includes helpful tips on how to contact agencies in the U.S. and the Czech Republic.

This book goes on my research shelf. Lots of super good information for genealogy research or for anyone with an interesting Czech immigration to the United States in the last half of the 19th century.
