I thought this book was well suited to a beginner reader or for those reading to a young child. The words and meaning were clear and used the fun of rhyme. The story line was good and I think both boys and girls will relate to Evan and his plight. Initially I thought the illustrations were a little amateur but my little helper had no such concerns and happily pointed out the little animals along the way. I perhaps would have liked one more page as I thought it ended a little abrupt, but overall ...more

Audrey Welsh has written another book to introduce sounds. This book introduces st and bl with beautiful colors and fantastical creatures. As Evan the Elf searches for his favorite red truck. He asks for help from Wesley the wizard and Gus the sneaky goblin. The author uses a magical journey to keep kids engaged while emphasizing consonant blends to enhance their reading. I found it fun and enjoyable.

I think what the author tried to do for children was commendable. She made a simple book to engage them and aide in reading. However, the reaction of my three nieces, ages 9, 5, and 7, caused me to take a closer look. The pictures do have a lot of color, however they're not as beautiful as the picture books I read as a child. I'm not sure if it was intentional, but all the illustrations looked like the they were cut and paste, made using a basic computer paint program. The story reminded me of p ...more

Thanks for sending me this little book. I'm a teacher in France and I sometimes teach English to small children so this book could become helpful at some point :-)

I didn't like the drawing style. It is very basic and childish, and overall it doesn't look professional. A few pages are dedicated to the adult reader; this is fine to explain the pedagogy behind your work but must be disappointing for a small child opening it on its own.

I put 3/5 stars because it is

Not exactly what I was hoping for. A decent enough read, but glad it was free thanks to Goodreads Giveaways. My grandchildren were less than impressed, and, as avid readers, it should not have been the struggle it was to get through the book. Best thing about the book is the artwork.
