Sierra Pride #1

Fierce Wanderer

Rate this book
Hera Watterson’s flight from her small town into the Sierras hasn’t gone unnoticed. The guys after her really want the evidence she’s trying to bring to Reno. Fleeing isn’t easy when her ex-fiancé is a drug dealer… and the chief of police. It’s even harder when her car breaks down and a super-hot guy with strange eyes starts getting into her business. Radiator overheating? Sure. But that doesn’t have anything to do with the molten feeling spreading through her core.

Shapeshifter Blake Fournier has been wandering around the wilderness for months, often coming back to stay at his family’s ranch for just a couple of days before heading out again. His inner mountain lion is bored and listless, tired of the routine of hunts, fights, and one-night stands. His first impression of the woman stuck on the side of the road? She’s absolutely gorgeous. Second impression? Completely paranoid. But once he gets to know her, his lion only wants to wander into one last place: her heart.

Content warning: This sexy shapeshifter novelette includes a happily-ever-after as well as explicit love scenes and naughty language. It is intended for adults.

I knew this was less than 100 pages going in, so I was prepared for a fast pace and fast romance. Hera has evidence her chief of police ex is involved in drugs, and he is out to get her. On the run, her car breaks down and a sexy stranger picks her up after she is wounded when her ex (or his goons) puts a bullet in her arm. This sexy stranger is Blake, a lion-shifter, something Hera finds out a little later. I could't tell if Hera knew shifters exist, but didn't know Blake was one, or if it was all brand new to her. Her reaction was one of laughing and telling jokes. That confused me. We are told it is against Pride law to tell strangers their shifter secret, but that is pretty much all we learn of the shifter cultures. There is also the fated-mate that pops up. The suspense of Hera' ex finding her has no excitement. It needed a lot more pages.

Uhm

So...this is a super short insta love/mates book... Smutty times are pretty fade to black. The story has a decent premise, but the characters sort of ruined it for me. The hero is a shifter, but has a weird creeper vibe sometimes....

"Her hair smelled so good, he wished he could wear it."

I loved Silence of the Lambs, but not the kind of thing I want in my romance.

I do not get the idea behind this book. I mean, it has a pretty clear plot, but why even bother writing this book is what I am wondering. Because reading it gave me nothing. No expectations, no excitement and no emotion towards the characters or story.

The number one reason for it being so bland was the tempo of the storyline. It was just so so rushed that there was no room for any character growth or any sort of development at all. I was not given the chance to get to know the characters either. It was pretty much a girl met a guy, insta-love, he helps her out and suddenly they are in a “in it for life” kind of relationship. As a really short summarization of the story, it sounds interesting enough, but when the actual book is almost as simple and shortened like that with no emotional struggle or natural progression leading up to them becoming a thing it’s just not enjoyable. And let’s not forget how unbelievable it all is.

To me the characters might as well have been empty human shells. There was no background story or any sort of introduction telling me who these people were. And the storyline did not help bringing life to these shells later on either. They had no flaws, emotions or anything to go on. They were just the ordinary everyday Joe doing things that the author told them to do.

So, I am stuck wondering what the point of writing this book was if no effort or passion was put into it?

Start Anew.....

Hera is running from a corrupt ex and she has the proof to put him away, problem is he has all the resources to find her and he will catch up with her sooner than later..... In her haste to get away she neglects her girl (car) and breaks down and in comes the Knight in shining armor to the rescue, only he's not shining, he is hot!

Blake has no idea the trouble this gorgeous human is going to bring to his ranch.....He only knows that she is his mate, but that's about all he knows since he and his siblings were never told about the birds and the bees, shifter mates in their case.....

Blake and Hera are about to embark on the fated mate journey and he always thought his older brothers would be first ...

A fun, hot new start to series!

I haven't read many shifter books, but I'm glad I read this one. It's a short, steamy read, and I've already pre-ordered book 2. Looking forward to see where the series goes next!

This is part of a box set for me, but I don’t like reviewing as a whole.
Different stories, different opinions.
Trying to cram four reviews in one post though?

Anyways, I really want to like this author.
She says the right things, gives voice to issues that are important, follows the rules that matter…
Consent, condoms, respect, communication.

She really needs to team up with an established and experienced author. Learn from them, grow, figure out all the bits she’s missing, cause they’re a lot!

She has a great story idea, but didn’t flesh it out.
Has good quality, well expressed dialogue, just nothing worth reading.
The first step in character creation, but doesn’t go any further.
The romance was a cop out, if you’re gonna go short, you have to go intense, this writer knows nothing of intensity. In a longer story she can write romance, but not chemistry … that whole intensity thing again.

Like with her other work I read, everything is so polite and nice.
Good guys can get angry, swear, chuck tantrums, even fail to apologise.
Drama, conflict, suspense, action … the reasons we read!

This shortie, was a complete and total fail. Why give 2 and not 1 ⭐️?
Cause there was nothing here that offended or upset, and there were moments of true respect, even while it was boring me to sleep.

At just 68 pages, this is a very short and sweet (and just occasionally spicy!) paranormal romance.

Because of the short length of the book, everything happens very quickly. There's little build up between Hera and Blake - they spend one afternoon together before falling in to bed with each other. Which is not a problem. It's what we read these books for. But if you're looking for a more drawn out romance, with lots of romantic tension, you might be left a bit disappointed. This is all about the fierce (see what I did there?) heat of instant attraction and sexual chemistry between two people. And it gets quite raunchy at times.

Bonus points have to be given for the fact that the sexy shapeshifter is also a Star Wars nerd. Not enough sexy nerds in romantic fiction, in my view. I'm so done with brooding billionaires.

So, yes, Hera accepts Blake's shapeshifting a little too readily, and the stuff with the drug-dealer ex-boyfriend is never really explored fully. But it doesn't matter - it's all just window dressing for a sexy little story about two people in a tent. Great beach reading, perfect for your summer hols!

Hera Watterson is fleeing from her small hometown into the Sierras in order to get hold of the evidence she is taking to Reno. The problem is, fleeing is not easy when it involves her ex-fiance who is a drug dealer - and more importantly the chief of police. When her car's radiator overheats a guy with strange eyes stops to help her and that causes her to overheat too! Mountain lion shifter Blake Fournier is heading back to his family's ranch for a couple of days when he finds a gorgeous woman at the side of the road with car trouble. He is intrigued as to why she is on the run - especially when his lion only wants to run straight to her heart. Can they escape and can she get the evidence where it is needed?

This was a dramatic story where they had to get to know each other rapidly as well as escaping the evil ex-fiance and his allies. I liked the way that Blake was able to finally ensure that she was free and that they were able to work out that they were destined to stay together. Well written and easy to read and understand. I found it was a nice story but a little brief in the decision that Hera made about their future. Contains explicit sexual content.

I am voluntarily writing this review for this book I received through arc.

Hera is forced off the rode by her car dying and truck that was following her stopped to help her meanwhile an SUV pulls around and sprays her car with bullets and more in their area. She gets hit with one of the bullets so Blake wants to take her to the hospital she didn't want to go. Blake told her he would take her to his family. She gets there and meets his brothers she wants to get to Reno. Blake told her that he would take her.
Hera was on the run from her ex fiancée when she found out about his shady business dealings. They want her back with the info she has on them or have her dead. The men knew about Blake because their enemies told them about him Blake needs to alert his brothers of the betrayal and get them away.

I've read a lot of romance, but this was my first experience reading shape-shifting romance, and I have to say I think I've been missing out.

Fierce Wanderer has everything you'd want in a romance: A strong heroine with a mysterious past; a love interest with a hard exterior but a warm, loving heart; great chemistry between the two. And, of course, the HEA. Blake and Hera hit it off right away. Little does Hera know that Blake is able to shape-shift. This book was fast-paced, and is short enough that it can be finished within a few hours. It's just a great, all around feel-good book.

I will definitely be picking up the next book in the Sierra Pride series.

Not the best intro to a new series. In fact, pretty terrible.
This story checks the box for every shifter tale ever told in under 100 pages.

Hera Watterson is on is on the run from her drug-dealing all around bad guy chief of police ex-boyfriend, when Blake Fournier steps up to help the damsel in distress when her car breaks down on the side of the road. Hera supposedly has mechanical experience yet finds herself in this self-inflicted irresponsible situation.

Character development should be way better than it is especially because this is a novella introducing the Sierra Pride, and the plot is lost in the woods on the way back to the ranch. Ridiculousness follows along other fly dialogue and the most unimportant details.

On my Were Scale of Hotness, 2 stars.

A sweet shifter romance with a side of suspense and danger

I really enjoyed Blake and Hera’s story. Hera is running from her dangerous ex-fiancée when her car breaks down. Blake, a mountain lion shifter, stops to help her right before the bullets start flying. To get to their HEA and assure Hera’s safety, they will have to come up with a plan while evading criminals. The story includes what you’d expect from romantic suspense - fighting, dangerous situations, evil masterminds, henchmen, loyal friends and family, tragic back stories, love, fated mates, and laughs. While short, the characters were fairly well developed and the story was well written. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. 3.5 stars.

Short Read But So Worth It

Fierce Wanderer is the gutsy boom in Liza Street's new Sierra Pride series. Hera is on the run from her ex-fiancé. She has evidence that will put him away for good if she lives long enough to get to Reno to turn it over. Blake is a mountain lion shifter. When comes to Hera's aide he had no idea what he's getting himself into. Their story is told in whirlwind fashion. From the moment the meet to the end of their story it's only a handful of days. Can live change that quickly? Can love grow strong in such a short time? Fierce Wanderer is a short story that had a big heart. I can't wait to see what the rest of the series holds.

Quick read but well worth it.

It's not the first time I've read this book.
But I never get bored of it.
It's a hot shifter romance, which is just up my street.
The characters work well together.
Usually in some of the many books I've read, I find typos. In this one, there are none.
The story flows well, there's no jumping around in the time line or confusion as to where it is heading.

To add, this is more about the author.
I've signed up to her newsletter ages ago and whenever I have contacted her directly, she has shown me that she is a really nice person. I'm more than happy to read and buy her books.

This is an excellent series with a few quirks. The storyline is engaging. Characters are good, though there are a few inconsistencies and also a few kind of odd world rules etc. The ending is a bit odd and its hard to see how they got there through the series trajectory. This is another series where it seems
that the characters being shifters is just not that big a deal == its not the main piece of the plot.

But still definitely worth a read, and a quite enjoyable and comfortable one as well.

Hera is fleeing from her ex-fiance who is trying to kill her. In doing so it puts her right in the path of Blake. At first Blake thinks Hera might be a little crazy but the first bullet that goes by him makes him realize she is in trouble.

Running from the ex puts these two in close quarters and they realize just how much chemistry is between them. However Blake has a really big secret that he is scared to share with her. He has found his mate but now he just has to convince her to not be afraid of him.

A fantastic beginning to a series. This book was well written with well rounded characters. It makes you want to cheer Blake and Hera on. I really enjoyed the book and look forward to the next one in the series.

This is a short, sweet, and to-the-point story. A nice, quickie diversion in Kindle Unlimited. Blake and Hera discover each other as fated mates. Some tense moments while being chased by Hera's ex and his thugs, then Blake's secret is out. Fortunately, Hera is OK with that and is more than fine with a night of hot sex. Now they just have to figure out how to live the rest of their lives together as a shifter and human couple. Hopefully, happily ever after.

Redneck knight in a rusty steed to the rescue! This was another car rescue story that took things in an unexpected direction. Broken down car? Check. Damsel in distress? Check. Good samaritan? Check. Bullets flying through the air at said damsel in distress? Check - wait! What?!? What redblooded redneck can resist jumping in to help? Definitely not Blake! Time to put this courtship into fast forward!

Something is missing

There's a sexy shifter. He's kind of a bad boy, but kind to our protagonist. There's a lady in trouble. They're fated mates. There's some action.

The action doesn't entirely make sense, but mostly it's okay. The real problem is the characters barely have any personality. I eventually decided I didn't like them much, but I was over halfway through the story at that point and decided to just finish it.

I loved this short but romantic story about a shifter finding his mate. Hera was running away to report her evil ex for all the crimes he committed. Unfortunately her car breaks down and Blake is her savior. He knows immediately there is something there, a strong attraction. They are on the run together and take care of her problem together. Hera decides she will take a chance on Blake and start their life together.

Short sweet and no Cliff-hanger!

This was a free book, and I'm glad I tried it! It was short, sweet, has twists, turns, some mystery and a neat ending. Makes you want to read more. Liza seems to be a great writer, knowing how to give info without being boring or winded. I enjoyed reading this book immensely and look forward to more!

A crooked cop is after his ex girlfriend when a passing cougar shifter gets involved to save the girl.

A good solid story with a plot, and characters that charm. She is a auto shop teacher with a crooked cop and his drug selling buddies on her tail. He is a high country rancher with a big family, and he has discovered his one and only.

Who is Hera? What does she do for a living? Where do we find her? What is happening right at the beginning of this book? Who is tobin? My jaw dropped when I learned who and/or what Tobin was. Who is Blake? What about his brothers/ how does Jude feel about Hera being brought to their home? Read and see what happens. This was a cute short story with some suspense.

It was okay. Not much in the way of suspense and I think it tried to mix too many elements. Shifter, woman on the run, evil ex, cranky family, suspicious neighbors, strong female protagonist, etc. Using that many tropes just meant that they were introduced and then just dropped.

The ending felt rushed. I would still read this author again.

Good book, however

I feel cheated when a good story stops too soon.
Three or four more chapters would have been greatly appreciated.
I will definitely continue to read Lisa's stories, because they are fun to read.

REALLY GOOOD!

I really enjoyed this book. Blake is a wonderful hero, just the kind I'd like to help me out in a jam. Hera is a pretty good damsel in distress who doesn't want to be.

This was a great quick read, I really enjoyed the characters, it was a great conflict that brought the two together and they got their HEA in the end. It was an all around well done story that held my interest from start to finish.
