I was looking forward to another visit to Pans ‘N Pancakes and Robbie. I arrived at the restaurant as a big group was gathering. Robbie filled me in that that they were the professors of the Sociology department @ Indiana University. It seemed like there was a lot of pointing fingers, accusations, and tension in this group. The next morning while snowshoeing with Lou (a graduate student in the Sociology department). What a workout th

To help make money in the cold February winter, Robbie Jordan has opened up her restaurant for dinner two Friday’s a month to the Sociology department of a nearby college. Out of the three books in this series, this one is my favorite. The series has finally hit its stride, showcasing the flavor of southern Indiana with a picturesque setting, colorful characters and an absorbing plot that pulls you right into the wonderful world of South Lick. Picture it: the snow gently falling on the rolling hills, the small town diner serving delicious food with a heaping side of gossip, and the warmth of friends and family, it's all s

When the Grits Hit the Fan is the third book in the Country Store Mystery series and is the best so far. Robbie Jordan is renovating the upstairs of Pan N' Pancakes in South Lick Indiana. She talks to the old owner and her daughter about finding artifacts in the walls that she is tearing out to add some rooms as a Bed and Breakfast. They would love to see what she has found. Meanwhile business has slowed down a bit so she has closed for a couple of days a week to do the work. Her friend Lou, has ...more

There are more than grits hitting the fan in this exciting installment of the Country Store Mysteries!

Rather she’s writing as Maddie Day or Edith Maxwell, this author’s impressive writing brings me back time and time again. I have never finished one of her books and not been totally entertained. I can’t see myself ever passing up a title penned by this wonderful writer.

When I started reading, WHEN THE GRITS HIT THE FAN, author Maddie Day quickly lured me in with tasty food, and vibrant charact

The weather is chilly in South Lick but for Professor Charles Stilton it is downright icy! Robbie Jordan and her friend Lou find the prof frozen under the ice when they are out snowshoeing. Lou becomes the prime suspect because of a heated conversation at Pans ‘N Pancakes the night before. Robbie decides to do a little investigating to show the police some more plausible suspects. Turns out fans of Charles Stilton are hard to find but there are many people that are not too ups

This is such a good cozy mystery series and I am always eagerly anticipating the next book. When this book popped up on netgalley I hit request as fast as possible. This book is just as good as the first two books, maybe even a bit better. I felt really invested in this story. The mystery kept me engaged and guessing who the murderer was. I really enjoyed this book and did my best to try and figure out the murder m

‘When the Grits Hit the Fan’ is everything and more that I would anticipate in a cozy mystery from this author. It is fun, intriguing and fraught with suspense. There is a full, unique cast of characters and suspects. The setting is in the upper Midwest, with rich descriptions of the surrounding areas that made me homesick. It is third in the Country Store Mysteries Series and can be read as a stand-alone.

One thing I appreciated in this novel is how the author includes more of the history of the

The mystery kept me engaged and guessing who the killer was. I enjoyed reading this book. I did my best to try to figure out the mystery and i actually managed to predict who the killer was before the main characters.

A professor has been killed, but quickly it turns out he wasn't the nicest person and a lots of people disliked him. There were many potential suspects. A friend of Robbie's has been seen arguing with him the night before he was killed, so she became one of the suspects. For a whil

It’s fun to see how the relationships of the characters in this series is playing out. I think things are just going to continue to get better and grow. I’m expecting some not yet seen people to show up soon. We know about them, they just haven’t been on scene yet. I like the way the books are tying the characters together and letting them continue to be part of the ongoing story. Waiting for book 4, Biscuits and Slashed Browns.

I received this book for free, but that doesn't alter my opinion. In

Robbie Jordan is plagued with finding bodies...and unfortunately, if she isn't the suspect...a friend is.
Working hard at remodeling the upstairs in her restaurant, she finds time to try to clear a friend, and she puts herself directly in the killer's sights....just as she figures it out.
A tunnel in the upstairs room she is remodeling comes as a surprise, an unwelcome one when she realizes someone is using it.
Follow her logic and go along for the ride.

Robbie is back and solving more puzzles. With another murder in town, Robbie is working to clear her friends' names while trying to stay safe herself.
Maddie Day does a nice job of building the characters and making the town's personality come to life. This is a great addition to a flavorful cooking cozy series. I highly recommend. It could stand alone, but I'd suggest starting at the beginning to not miss part of the story and character development.

Maddie Day wrote a page-turner with When the Grits Hit the Fan. Robbie Jordan owns a diner called Pans 'N Pancakes which keeps her super busy, but when she and her friend find a body in the lake, she has to change her focus to solve the mystery before her friend is arrested for murder. With a town full of suspects, with the deceased disliked by more people than he was liked by and a University Department that had little respect for him, the story takes you through twists and turns to find the re ...more

WHEN THE GRITS HIT THE FAN, book three in the Country Store Mysteries, by Maddie Day (aka Edith Maxwell) is another solid addition to a terrific series! Robbie Jordan, owner of Pans ‘N Pancakes, is a believable and likable protagonist. I enjoyed her down-to-earth attitude and her willingness to jump in and get whatever needed to be done, done… be it knocking down walls to remodel her building; or exploring a tunnel even though she’s very claustrophobic; or solving a murder when a good friend is ...more

Another good book in the Country Store Mysteries, this story follows Robbie as she tries to help her friend who is accused of the murder of a thoroughly disagreeable professor at the college where her friend works. Things get complicated, because it seems like everyone hated him and had a motive for his murder. With help from her friends, Robbie works her way through the tangle and helps find the true murderer.

Back home again in Indiana. Familiar with the locale and enjoy the mention of "Bird." It has been many years since I have been in the area, so I am probably overlooking other fun subtle references. No matter, the story is engaging whether you have been there or not. Exciting and interesting cozy mystery. Some touching moments, along with a few scary ones. The publisher provided a copy via NetGalley for my voluntary review.

I finished When The Grits Hit The Fan by Maddie Day last night. This was a Country Store Mystery. I found this to be an interesting story, mystery and cast of characters. Robbie is a very strong main character who despite her age has pretty much got her life figured out at 27, her own restaurant and shop, the ability and skill to renovate the apartment above her store to turn it in to a bed and breakfast as well as a lovely boyfriend, things seem to be going very well until she finds herself nee ...more
I enjoyed this book as I do the series. At a meeting Professor Stilton seems to be causing more problems than good and when Robbie and Lou find his body while out snowshoeing it seems that he still is causing problems when the police start to look at Lou. With further investigation it is found that very few have anything good to say about him.
I love the characters in this series, I like that the police take things seriously and actually do investigate. I loved the side story of Robbie finding i

This is the first I have read in the series but I was still able to enjoy it without having read the previous two.

It's February and Robbie Jordan has gone three whole months without finding a body or experiencing a murder in South Lick. She's just fine with that. Since winter started, she gave herself another day off each week and started on the demolition of the upstairs of the building she bought, hoping to someday turn it into rooms for a bed and breakfast.

But this is short-lived when she and her cyclist friend Lou find the body of a not so well liked professor and local guy named Charles. He was in the

Welcome back to South Lick, Indiana. Come on in to the Pans 'N Pancakes and sit down and have a bite to eat. Just be wary of the murderer in town that may be lurking at the table next to you.

When a scholar's meeting turns heated and a professor turns up dead, it seems everyone had a reason for not liking him. Even his own family! Robbie is busy asking questions, trying to clear her friends from being suspects and trying to get the upstairs renovated. Only that isn't going so well, it seems there

Every book in this series just keeps getting better and better. I love reading about Robbie and her country store/restaurant crew, as well as the other supporting characters around town. The small town ambiance is well described, and you feel at home as you read these books.

Robbie discovers yet another dead body and finds some of her friends on the suspect list, so of course she wants to try to clear them and find the real killer. As if that weren't enough, her renovations lead to the discovery

I have been patiently awaiting this next book in the Country Store Mystery and loved it. ( I had the fortunate privilege of finding the series after the first two books were already out). I love the Country Store/Restaurant and it makes me hungry to think of all the good food that is served there and it makes me want to try the recipes that are included in the book. I would also like to meet some of the characters that hang out there, as long as one of them is not a murderer.

When the Grits Hit the Fan, is the third book in the Country Store Mysteries series and every book has been great. With greater complexity than most traditional cozy mysteries and characters that have depth, the books of the series stand head and shoulders above most of the traditional cozy mysteries that I have read. I love when I discover a series that leaves me anxious for the next book without relying on a cliffhanger!

Robbie's life has gone through quite a few changes in the last few years
