The archeological and anthropological advances and discoveries of the early twentieth century were often colored by the political ideologies of those who bankrolled the expeditions, (creating a perspective that allowed Steven Spielberg to develop the Indiana Jones franchise.) Truth is often more interesting than fiction and such is the case here. Tucci's life would find even the silver screen difficult to do it justice. Giuseppe Tucci is one of my heroes too. Tucci’s persona appears in the “Youth Without Youth” 2007 film by Francis Ford Coppola, based on the novella of the Romanian author Mircea Eliade. Tucci was a model scholar for Mircea Eliade, who had met with him, when he traveled to Rome (according to Eliade’s Autobiography, Volume 1: 1907-1937, Journey East, Journey West, pp. 200-201).

Lettura “imponente” per un non “addetto ai lavori”, e malgrado ciò grazie all’autrice che ha scelto uno stile molto personale per un testo di per sè accademico o di nicchia , come lo si voglia definire, ne viene fuori un viaggio affascinanante che tocca vari periodici storici e vari paesi. Il personaggio di Tucci è centrale ma è anche una chiave per aprire molte porte per chi è curioso di tutto un pò (religione, geografica, usi e costumi di altri popoli, ecc.).
