Eleven-year-old twins Seth and Sadie Fletcher are all set for a fun and relaxing summer in Frankfurt, Germany, where their father is a U. S. Ambassador. They are especially excited about having time to play their favorite game, Spyhunt, which takes them all over the city, riding busses, streetcars and subways in search of imaginary adventures. But for some reason, Seth and Sadie’s parents are more concerned than usual about the twins’ safety. To make matters worse, they announce that a blind boy named Fami is going to spend several weeks with them. The twins are afraid their fun will be over before it begins.
Then they discover that Fami is a great kid who enjoys doing the things they like best. In the midst of their fun, the children spot a mysterious man who seems to pop up everywhere they go. Soon Seth, Sadie, and Fami will have an opportunity to play Spyhunt for real—in a dangerous game that puts their lives in jeopardy.
I grew up in St. George, Utah, where a lot of my family still lives, but now reside with my husband and family in the Salt Lake City area. My favorite thing to do is support my kids in their many interests. Between basketball, ballet and piano lessons we squeeze a lot into a week, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
My 4- & 5-year-olds LOVED this book and play "Spyhunt" all the time. I really enjoyed the story and found myself not being able to guess every twist and turn like I expected I would. I got so into the story that I finished it after the kids went to bed because I couldn't wait until morning (and my husband did too). Fun characters with an exciting, but not TOO scary plot. I loved this book and its sequel too.
Seth and Sadie Fletcher, 11 year old twins, live in Frankfurt, Germany with their parents. Their dad is an U.S. Ambassador there. Their favorite game is called Spyhunt. They play it all over town. One team is the spies and the other is the hunters. They pick a landmark and try to reach it without the other team catching them.
Their summer is going swell, though a bit curtailed due to their parents' overprotectiveness, when they find out that the son of one of their friends is coming to live with them for awhile. His name is Fami, and he is blind. His dad was killed by lightning--the same strike that caused Fami's blindness--and his mother has something else going on and needs a safe place for him to stay. The twins are not too excited by this news, but rather grudgingly make room in their plans for Fami.
When he comes, they're surprised by how normal and cool he is. However, several things don't really add up. For one thing, the story his mom told their parents is much different the story she told Fami about why he was going to the Fletchers'. Also, a menacing man with piercing black eyes has started showing up more and more, almost like he's following them.
When things take a turn for the worse, they 3 kids are going to have to rely on each other, and the power of prayer to get them through.
* * * * * The relationship between the twins was well-done and realistic. They loved each other and had each other's back when the chips are down, but day-to-day they also teased and annoyed each other. Fami and his mystical rat helped keep things lively and gave a refreshingly different perspective on the events going on.
Some heart-pounding moments were mixed well with lighter fare to keep things exciting but not too terrifying.
Content: Some violence, some intense scenes, as noted above.
There are actually three books in this series. It is a great story for kids on about a 4th grade reading level. I like how the kids are taught to pary for help when they are in a dangerous situation and they get into plenty of dangerous situations. They also learn that they have to cooperate and get along in order to make it to the end. A great series.
I loved this book! It was a great mystery, with interesting twists I thought really tied the whole thing together, the kids are so creative! :) plus one of the main characters has my name. :) Great book!
My nine year old daughter kept pestering me to read this book because she loved it so much so I finally gave in. I was pleasantly surprised! It had a fun plot, great characters and a good message. I would definately recommend this to anyone, not just kids.
This book is cute and funny. I first read (listened) this when I was sick and then read it again when I bought the third book. This book talks about following your instincts and loving your family.
I love the way Michele writes, and I think that this book/the series was amazing. I just think that there needs to be a last one, so that we can know if Fami gets his sight back.
