I liked this book. I'd give it another half a star if I knew how to.
It tells the story on an English Polish woman who goes to Poland to work as an English language teacher.
The author spins a story with great humour, but also provides some very sad moments which give you cause to think.
I like that sweet and sour effect in a novel, and the writer who can pull that off will compel me to seek out future work.
The book is written in first person, present tense.
The writing is economical and I found it

My high rating of this book is reflective of the fact that it I found it quite personal to me having grown up relatively close to the author in Grimsby/Cleethorpes in Lincolnshire and am the child of an English mother and a Polish father.
I am very proud of my heritage and there were many areas that I could relate to, and it made me smile and contemplative all the way through. I could hear the words of my own family in the sentences.
I sincerely look forward to reading more from Karola.

This was book was described to me as being similar to Brigette Jones' Diary, well after reading it I can confidently say that I think it's 100% better! It's a nice light read about life in Poland, including the food, relationships and work. It's lightly entertaining and you really fall in love with the characters. The twist at the end is really nice and I after I finished reading I wished there was a second book so that I could find out what happened next with Magna.

Great read. Can relate to the girl in the book and hear the same anecdotes.

This is a great book. Witty, warm, the story of Magda's search for romance is anything but frivolous - she discovers facts about her family's history in Stalinist Poland and the aftermath of communism, which are deeply moving. Easy to read, this book will stay with you for a long time.
