Over all this was a clean read. Like any collection, there will be parts that standout and parts that don’t. Some stories will appeal to one and not another. That is the way with a collection. However, I did enjoy this seasonal read and was amazed at the creativity in how many different ways Austen’s classics could be depicted. Wow! These authors were so very creative. Well done.

With six stories, each a modern variation of one of Jane Austen's novels, it is difficult to sort out exact impressions or remember all the details. I did enjoy each and they have in common a Mansfield Perk coffee shop which is a permanent feature in the Holidays With Jane series. I have read two others in this series.

The first story, Twice Upon A Sea, by Melissa Buell is a Persuasion Story. James Benwick, the main contact with the Naval History Office Media Department, lead archaeologist and pr
Once again, I couldn't wait to the actual season to read another of these charming "Holidays With Jane" delights. But once again I'm glad I didn't wait. All of the stories had their charms and the interesting twists on the "canon". I think I've said this in reviews before....but these are the kind stories are why I read JAFF. An online Jane Austen purist friend said recently something like "why haven't you read the book I recommended(long bio, rather too serious for me at this moment), rather th ...more

Dear reader,

Sometimes when reading a book you get a gentle reminder of how much the author loves Jane Austen.

You pick up a book and are swept away from the daily grind and transported to another world, populated by modern versions of our beloved characters.

And then you realise that the book is not the work of one author, but six.

Six people sat down and placed these wonderful characters in new situations, and although the outcome of the story itself is known to us,each specific story leads us on

Soak Up the Sun and Fun of Summer!

4.5 out of 5 stars

Summer is my favorite time of year, I love warm weather and being in the water! I couldn’t think of a better way to start the summer season off than to read the summer-themed anthology in the Holidays with Jane series! There are six short stories in this anthology (one for each Jane Austen novel) and each story takes place in present-day. In this collection readers witness various summer activities such as traveling on a Caribbean cruise, atten

The Holidays with Jane series has six authors each writing modern, short-story updates of the six main Austen novels. Each anthology is themed around a time of year, so there are ones titled Christmas Cheer, Spring Fever, Trick or Sweet and this is The Summer of Love.

The first story in the anthology, Twice Upon a Sea, is a Persuasion-based story by Melissa Buell. This update sees Anne Elliot working

So, that's the last one in the HwJ series. I am sorry to be done with all those lovely stories. I know I will be re-reading some of them. My favourite stories in this collection: Firecracker (Emma) and Of Rivers, Rocks, and Rich Men (P&P).

Overall, over the last couple of weeks, I read 34 lovely modern Austen retellings (I skipped two stories, because for one reason or another I could not get through them). I wish I had made notes while reading to be more detailed in my reviews, but alas, it is

"A short story is a different thing altogether - a short story is a quick kiss in the dark from a stranger" - Stephen King

This book is #4 in a series of books that set a modern version of all of Austen's work in a different season (autumn, winter, spring and summer).
I love the use of the Mansfield Perk coffee shop through all the stories and the references to different Austen characters.

Once again the wonderful ladies behind these Jane Austen-inspired tales have spun something that's impossible to put down. These summer stories are the perfect adaptations to read while enjoying the hot sun. It's like picking up your favorite heroines and the men the love and putting them on the beach with you. Or the cruise ship. I really want to go one a cruise with the Austen ladies. Mansfield Perk feels even more like a real place in this collection of short stories and its the perfect place ...more

I feel so lucky to be in this book with five amazing authors. Each of their stories captured both the tone and theme of the novel they were adapting and the feeling of summer. Emma at a summer camp? Pemberley as an agritourism business? These ladies are beyond creative, and the stories they've crafted are delightful.

To be honest, it took me a bit of time to get into the stories in this collection; primarily because it's aimed at a YA audience, and it's been close to twenty years since I was in that age group. I'm also not an avid romance fan. But once I started reading Cecilia Gray's "Mine," I was hooked.

Gray does a superb job of re-creating Austen's Fanny from Mansfield Park as a modern-day college student. For the reader who knows Mansfield Park, Gray's love story gets an added dimension. But even those

Once again six fabulous authors from Indie Jane Press have band together to bring us six clever and swoon worthy retellings of Austen's beloved classics with Holidays with Jane: Summer of Love.

Whether you are soaking up the sun's sweet rays this summer or—like yours truly—dreaming of hot chocolate, cool breezes, and gingerbread this book is bound to deliver a smile to your heart.
Ohmigosh, you guys ... The women I write with are *amazing* and I don't know how I got so lucky to tag along with them! These may be some of my favorite stories ((but then, I'm totally a SUMMERGIRL)), and were so much fun to read.

Toujours les mêmes auteures avec ces nouvelles contemporaines qui, cette fois, transposent nos héroïnes au bord de la mer (ou en vacances).

Comme toujours, un petit retour sur chacune :

* Twice Upon a Sea de Melissa Buell : For Anne Elliot breaking up with Finn Wentworth her freshman year of college was the hardest moment of her life. Now six years later and working as a media liaison for the Naval History office, she runs into Finn—an experienced marine archaeologist. Is this her second chance at

I wanted to like this book, I really did. I regularly read JA fanfic so expected this would be right up my alley, but I just couldn't love it. The nods to other JA works (i.e. Bingley works at Abbey College in Northanger) were just a bit too obvious for me, and I felt some of the adaptations missed the nuances behind the big glory moments.
