I received The Rise of the Chosen Ones: How to Choose Yourself for Greatness by Joseph C Parker through a Goodreads giveaway. When I first started reading, I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy this book. Parker's repetition of the same three 'chosen one' examples started to wear on my patience a bit. Having a few other examples to refer to, such as Neo from The Matrix or Buffy from Buffy the Vampire Slayer would have helped to keep me tethered to the points he was making.

That being said, once I made it through the introductory material, I thoroughly enjoyed Parker's ideas. I really do believe the one thing that holds people back is their tendency to focus on the negative rather than the positive (I admit to being guilty of this myself) and I felt Parker did an excellent job outlining how to overcome this type of thinking. Furthermore, he then helps lead you down the path to gaining self-confidence and believing in your own ideas by identifying multiple 'levels of attainment'. I felt this was another important aspect of this book. Having small levels of success available can help bolster one's confidence while on the journey to larger levels of success.

Another thing I enjoyed about The Rise of the Chosen Ones is that it's not just about improving yourself but it's about helping others as well. Parker gives us the initial tools to become successful (personally, emotionally, professionally) but then explains that once we achieve that success we should use it to help others. It's a very small part of the book but it's a sentiment that I really appreciate and wish more people shared.

I tend to read self-help books every once in a while and this is one of the better ones I've read. I honestly felt myself gaining confidence in my own ideas just by reading Parker's words. He's a very good motivator and I honestly believe this book has helped rewire some of my negative thinking. In fact, I'm definitely going to lend this book to a friend of mine.
