This was one of my first space operas. What an entertaining genre. Strangely enough, melodrama is more fun in outer space, go figure.

There isn’t anything original about the plot: it’s about a princess whose parents were murdered, ready to seek vengeance on the murderer. I’m feeling underwhelmed by the amount of books that try to sell that overused cliché. Because that’s what it is.

Fortunately, we have another main character aside from Rhiannon. A reality star. That was unexpected. When Rhiannon

This book is B-A-D-A-S-S. It's like Game of Thrones in space and IDK why I have to say more than that but I will: it's like ARYA STARK from Game of Thrones in space. Rhee is a total badass and I will follow her badassery and determination across every sky.

Full of action, exciting twists, and smooth writing, Empress of a Thousand Skies is a rousing debut by an author to watch. Everything from the descriptions to the alternating points of view work seamlessly together to create an evenly paced story with diverse characters who are as complex as they are endearing. Some twists I saw coming, but that didn't make them any less satisfying.

Now, when can I get the sequel?
I went into this book expecting to love it. I mean, look at that cover. And the synopsis sounded awesome. Plus I had seen lots of high reviews calling it a space opera. Sadly, I was quite disappointed.

I didn't really connect to Rhee or Aly. At first, I enjoyed the story and I figured the parts that were a bit meh would be fixed when they got together. You know, because the synopsis says they're "thrown together" yet, that never happened. There's one brief scene where they glance at each other fr

When I saw this book was 'for fans of the Lunar Chronicles', I needed it like yesterday and when it finally came in my mailbox, I was soooo excited to read it! And even better, it lived up to my terribly high exceptions. I may be biased about books set in space since I love everything sci-fi, but this book is great for anyone who loves YA sci-fi and a kick-ass MC (technically two of them). The worlds and cultures created in this book are fantastic and so diverse that it reminded me a bit of A Lo ...more

I honestly don't know what I was expecting with this book, but it definitely was not this. The synopsis is also misleading. It's bit of a spoiler so I won't share, but it really pissed me off. The story started off strong, but somewhere in the middle I started losing interest.

The ending has a nice twist. I wish that had been revealed sooner. Maybe then I would have enjoyed it more. This book was ok I guess. :-/

Okay so let me just get the one thing that bothered me about this book out of the way first. There is a line in the summary that I kept waiting for … and waiting for… and waiting for. AND IT NEVER HAPPENED. And that really just irritated me.

“With planets on the brink of war, Rhee and Aly are thrown together to confront a ruthless evil that threatens the fate of the entire galaxy.”

Thrown together… like together together. Right? WRONG. At no time in this book are the two “together.” The

Empress of a Thousand Skies would best be described in three words: constant adrenaline rush. From the very moment you start reading, there is a tremendous amount of intrigue, action, and grief. It's one of those books that is impossible to put down because laying it aside for even a second would disrupt the energy of the moment. Rhoda's writing style pulls you in, leaving you feeling just as passionately immersed in what's happening a

I was fortunate enough to receive an advance reader’s copy of Rhoda Belleza’s EMPRESS OF A THOUSAND SKIES for an honest review. I am so impressed with the level of world building in this story. I love adventures in space and this story did not disappoint. It was a heart-pounding journey from start to finish. It’s awesome because we get two amazing characters with GREAT voices and two exciting stories weaved together. I adored Aly. I found his character a sweet blend of fun and likeable. I also r ...more

This is a tough one to rate. While I loved the strong science fiction world (foreign beings, futuristic technology, epic galactic politics), the story came off dry to me. Because of the switching points of view between the main characters, it's takes a long while to get a feel for their personalities and traits.

There was also the sense that too much ground was trying to be covered in one story, which made for dense, weighed-down reading.

I do think hardcore sci-fi favs will enjoy this one!

Things I LOVED about this book:

    1. RHEE. I fell in love with our heroine from the first page. She's intricate, conflicted, brave, and on the path of vengeance. She's smart, generous, and while she makes mistakes, she doesn't let them define her or derail her from her mission. After losing her family in a horrible accident, she is the rightful heir to the throne, and is trying to mold herself into a strong Empress. But when someone betrays her, it sets her on a dangerous journey to uncover secrets

    Holy spaceballs, what a ride!!!

This brilliantly plotted book grabs on fast and just does not let up. It's a perfect read for those who love action, suspense, and a story that *moves* but is equally impressive on other counts. Here are just a few things I loved:

    1. The characters. Rhee is pure gold, and Aly and Vin gave me excellent Firefly flashbacks. They speak in a perfect blend of contemporary banter and invented slang that make them feel fresh and spacey… but also like modern teens? I just wa

I was so lucky to read an ARC of this amazing space epic--and EPIC is truly the most appropriate word here. This is Game of Thrones meets Star Wars-level epicness, paired with vivid writing and a diverse cast. I love multiple-POV books, and Rhee and Aly are two of my favourite characters ever (especially Aly!)--strong but wholly believable.

    Need. Next book. Now.
